Thank you for posting this. I have had a nasty basal cell cancer in the skin just under my right eye (inner campus) removed twice in the past two years and am going again for another removal in a few weeks. This time more extensive surgery. I have used a lot of sunscreen over the past 25 years but as you know, sun damage is cumulative. My Dermatologist (whom I respect) tried a cream, then a scrapping neither of which worked. He did this because it is such a delicate area. Your message is so important! Thank you. (please also talk about sunglasses).

I had two small basal cell carcinomas removed from near the lower corner of my left eye, about a little finger thumbnail from the corner of the eye. He was able to just zap them, but it hurt and looked ugly. Also have had four tiny ones removed from the top of my upper lip, two at a time. Yikes, that hurt and made me look like I had face planted into a sidewalk. All my facial ones have been tiny but I had a MOHS and an excision on my right arm and an excision from my back - I thought that a mole - not a mole. Word to the wise - use sunscreen!

Amber I mean my eyes. My eyelids have never had any irritation with any sunscreen. Certain sunscreens, however, will make my eyes sting, feel tired or heavy, etc....The best tolerated sunscreens by my eyes are mineral sunscreens with NO fragrance & minimal ingredients. I've really struggled trying to find a mineral sunscreen that doesn't irritate my very sensitive eyes. Most sunscreens cause my eyes to water and/or burn. However, I FINALLY found one that doesn't cause any irritation, whatsoever......AlumierMD Sheer Hydration Broad Spectrum SPF40 sunscreen. I use the untinted version, and I absolutely love it! I did try the ColorScience 3-in-1 eye SPF, and I sent it back because it irritated my eyes. I also found the shade too dark for my fair complexion. The new FAIR shade looks like a much better option for fair skin. I would definitely try it again if it didn't irritate my eyes.

16:54 -- Nice display of their shades. Hope however, your favorite company does more for people w/ darker skin tones. For persons of color who can come in any of a number of 32 different shades, Color Science's: 3 in 1's 'Deep' shade only touches the surface of coloring for people with brown or darker skin tone. Fingers crossed that someone from their company happens to watch your video and rings up their marketing, research, or their development department to ask for improvement. Interesting video. I don't think very many people ever thing about sunscreen specifically for around the eyes. Thank you for sharing.

Yes! Heavy mineral sunscreen- for example Elta MD UV sport SPF 50 can work as a highlighter, though it can smear mascara later in the day. Also I like Colorscience Sunforgettable Face Shield tinted SPF 50 for around by eyes-less heavy, to me, than the eye one. But it does give a nice cover up and highlight for brow bone and under eye.

After watching this video I decided to use a sunscreen I bought a while ago but wanted to throw away cuz it’s pure mineral and I’m Latina with brown skin. I figured let’s try this on my eye lids and it truly does not irritate my eyes at all, and this is even with me wearing my mask all day at work getting hot air up into my eyes lol + I like the highlighting effect! Happy Friday! I always apply the same mineral sunscreen for my eyes as I do for my face every day. We have Coppertone pure and simple in Quebec City! I will adjust it for my eyes and continue to take Olay 30 spf for the rest of my face. If the Coppertone cast is similar to Olay 30, I will be able to use it for the entire face. My foundation is Dermablend and it has a 25 spf I rarely go in full sun. Because of fibromyalgia, I am very sensitive to light! I'm more the one who chases the shadow...lol!

Cotz mineral tinted sunscreen burned the hell out of my eyes. At first I thought i was getting eye irritation from lack of sleep but that couldn't be because I was getting 9 hours of sleep, so it was definitely the sunscreen. Once I stopped putting it around the eyes the burning feeling went away. Still looking for a good sunscreen to put under the eyes.

Happy Friday and Valentines day Dr Dray and everyone ! This was a wonderful video . I am really enjoying my sunscreen combination of the colorscience spf 50 all over then Drmtgly tinted and the colorscience eye therapy spf 35 . I use these as my primers and foundation and concealer . While Colorscience is a bit pricey it is well worth it and since it doubles as my makeup it is well worth it to me

Hi Dr. Dray. I’m home recuperating from surgery to remove melanoma from my scalp. Can you recommend sunscreens for this area. I wear hats ever since I started watching your videos about a year ago, but I work in a space with lots of natural light. Wearing a hat indoors at work is socially impractical. BTW, I credit you with getting to the dermatologist sooner than later and catching the melanoma in an early stage. Thank you so much! Also, a new tinted sunscreen we have here in Canada is L’Ombrelle (Garnier) SPF 60 Ultralight 100 % mineral (titanium dioxide). The color is not orangey. I’d appreciate your review of this product.

Should I moisturise my eye area before applying sunscreen? My two attempts so far, one stung and lead to a lot of irritation and redness, the other made my eyes watery and stung a bit too. I used Cerave's lotion and then applied a combination sunscreen. When I applied just the sunscreen, my eyes felt completely fine.

When you say it lasts forever, do you mean it won’t expire for a long time or the size is big. If it expires in a year or 2, I think it is a waste to throw away an almost full product, especially at that price

B Smith I tried to find out when I got the one I’m currently using. I think I got it early 2018. And it’s going to expire in April 2020. It’s not a huge container. I do think I am getting near the end of it though. And thank you for asking me this question because I didn’t even think about them expiring. And I had ordered a new one earlier this year. Now I know not to be ordering them just because they are on sale LOL

Dermstore has it for $28.80 as of 07/12/2021 for 0.23 fluid ounces. They have a points program and discounts for subscribing. I hope that helps. Otherwise I wouldn't get it either because $69 is way over budget for me.

i have to say.... i have more skincare stuff in the past two months than in the past 20 years since i started watching you. my budget has got to improve to support my desire to improve... so today... i invested in the Colorscience 3-in-1 product as my eyes are noticeably dry and puffy. they are not liking a lot of the spf's that sting, burn, etc, despite mineral bases. so... here goes... and thank you for all your efforts. i kind of wish you were the one i could invest in... you'd be my version of a derm-store-iherb-one-stop-shop....

golunbabble she said mineral spf, especially tinted mineral spf, so I would check products & see if they are mineral sunscreens rather than chemical (you can do more research online how to tell the difference based on ingredients). Also, I would check ones that are recommended for baby’s first (like one she mentioned here). Usually they have minimal fragrances and no extra ingredients. Also, I love the skincare beauty Reddit & there is one for Asian skincare too....the Asian skincare Reddit would be the right one for you! 💜 Last resort--I would look up the ingredient lists for the spf’s she recommends and compare them to the products/brands available to you! 💜

Dr. Dray I've watched quite a few of your videos now and I've learned a lot. However, in this video I feel compelled to point out that the Coppertone Pure and Simple that you're recommending contains C12-15 alkyl benzoate. In the presence of uv rays, this breaks down to benzene!

Dr. Dray, would you consider makeup setting sprays containing sunscreen effective? I imagine the user would reapply throughout the day by misting their face. Coola came out with one that I was curious about. I already enjoy their mineral silk drops and tinted moisturizer.
