People make the assertion that cars aren't an investment, because people have a fundamental misunderstanding of the term "investment". Buying a house is widely accepted as being an investment. 2008 could happen again, and the value of your investment could drop by 25% in a month. Every investment carries a certain level of risk. Certain cars can be an investment, they just happen to be a high risk investment. Like watches. Like cryptocurrency. They're volatile markets, meaning there could be very quick upside, or very quick downside.

When you account for storage, insurance, and maintenance, even if they go up in value, they are typically not a good investment.

Don’t be confuse buying the dip in a bear market, with guaranteed future returns. Just because that company is down 60%+ from ATH does NOT make it a sound long-term investment. Make sure you’re investing in great companies. kudos to Christen wilburn

The cost of storage (cost of building the storage facility), cost of licensing/registration and property taxes, insurance and of course maintenance costs. Don't overlook these. It's not buying stocks and bonds.

Rarest car I have is a manual e63 V10 M6 coupe. It’s weird to that no one cares about that car. I’ve owned every other BMW that people have geeked out over and still do and the manual E63 is better than all of them. A manual V10 that they made 330 of should make it one of the most collectible BMWs in history someday.

I partially agree with this. JDM cars like Mk. IV Supra, RX-7, R34 GTR, S2K are in demand right now because those cars are legendary. Those were used widely in racing, and got featured in cars films, anime and games, when not many people can buy or afford them. They are generational icons. Sport cars nowadays will not be as cool as them. As simple as that. But then again, if EVs actually successfully replace (I hope not) ICE cars, then maybe sport cars of today can become the future icons.

Tesla roadster will be crazy valuable in 20 years. Unique auto and space history from one of the biggest geniuses the world have seen this century. Aston Martin vantage v8 is a steal right now, and will probably 2x in value the next 5 years. Especially with manual. Classic vintage Mini coopers, Renault alpine and other cool rally / motorsport history or famous movie cars are also a safe bet.

Strad forgot that BMW put Supra's engine into their whole lineup from 1 series all the way to the 8 series. There is no way such car will appreciate only cuz manual since there are many B58 manual cars.

A lot of times it is weird options that no one else gets that really sets the cars apart. I know there is a porche I believe it is a 993 and if you have one without a sunroof it is insane, because everyone got a sunroof. Gated manuals in exotics as paddles and autos took over. Cars can be great investment if you know what you are doing.

Just because there are investment worthy cars, doesn’t mean that in general cars are investments. A lot like wristwatches, the vast majority of them lose value, even some exotics. It’s all about if you can afford to buy in to cars that will be investment worthy in the first place.

I think right now, the manual craze is all the rave. All manual cars have skyrocketed. However, so many insane auto cars that people are just simply forgetting bc theyre auto - ie the 675lt. Amazing car, can get it for 250k now, whereas manual cars of similar value will go double.
