Or alternatively you can get Meowth using Pay Day (for the economy, it's better to keep it as a Meowth, because Meowth also gets Pick Up ability, making Meowth a disgustingly good economy pokémon. When it evolves into Persian, it loses this ability for Limber, which is a decent combat ability, but it means nothing for economy in the long run).

I'm happy you chose to use FireRed and LeafGreen. It's sad how terribly Pokemon Red/Blue has aged over the past twenty years. I get absolutely zero enjoyment from playing those games casually. I've enjoyed Jynx a lot in a fire red playthrough - the typing is really excellent and because she's an outsider from an ingame trade you're going to level her exceptionally easily letting you keep up with that NPC leap in levels from 30-60

Nyundaa “Nidoking isn’t very fast.” In what universe? 85 Speed May not be Crobat-levels of Speed, but it’s still faster than most Water-types in Kanto. The only Water-Type it isn’t faster than out of the original 151 is Starmie, who you wouldn’t send out against anyway due to Starmie’s Psychic-typing. What MysticUmbreon forgot to mention about Nidoking is how he gets Megahorn in the early 40s, which the player will want to be well above anyway because of the high levels for the league, and that can really help against Sabrina’s non-Alakazam team as a back-up slot. I still probably wouldn’t give it Thunderbolt or Ice Beam, but he can hold his own rather well.

You should get Gengar, it gets Psychic, Thunderbolt and Giga Drain at the same time. It can also run Shadow Ball, but that's pointless since Shadow Ball is a physical move in this gen and Gengar's physical attack is low, so Shadow Ball is not going to be that hard hitting despite STAB.

The electric type isn’t necessary, but Jolteon should absolutely be on the team. It’s insanely fast and always hits first. I cleared half the elite 4 with a Jolteon alone. That and if you don’t want to waste a move spot on every Pokemon for an electric move, just carry a Jolteon. Just my opinion.

Having Snorlax on your team is always great. He is a great 6th Pokémon to help you in a bind. In Pokémon X I kept Snorlax, never trained or used it, but due to exp share it was a level 59 when I faced the champion and I was about to lose, down to my last Pokémon, and sent out Snorlax against her last Pokémon and had him get his first win to lock up the championship battle for me. Super Clutch!

Jynx is absolutely amazing. I used it in my FireRed playthrough and it carried me through the elite 4 (as she covered 3/4 types). She was my highest level, and along with Jolteon basically took down all the Elite Four. Brought in the rest of my team for the champion and it was game over. If you opt for Blastoise, Jynx is a good option for the psychic and ice STAB.

Hey, I feel like I'm quite knowledgeable on Kanto so I'll make a few suggestions. Blastoise (Consider Starmie, Gyarados, Lapras, Vaporeon) Strength possibly to Mega Kick (Move tutor after Mt. Moon. Ice Beam -> Blizzard, obtainable without Game Corner Bite -> Brick Break (SS Anne/Celadon Department Store TM) Nidoking (VERY good, Nidoqueen is good too. You can trade Nidoran-females to Nidoran-males in the Underground path) Use Dig instead of Earthquake for most of the game. Thunderbolt ->Rock Slide (Rock tunnel move tutor) Ice Beam -> Fire Blast (no game corner!) Note that its special attack is weak without Sheer Force boosts added in later games Raichu (Consider Magneton and Zapdos, beware Jolteon sucks in this game for movepool) Quick Attack -> Brick Break (Celadon Dpt. Store) Theif -> Dig (Again, Dpt. Store) Jynx (Consider Lapras, Alakazam) Note that I have never used Jynx in a playthrough but it seems okay Ice Beam -> Ice Punch (I hate the game corner grind, it gets it via level up) Water Pulse maybe to Calm Mind ? Arcanine Note that Fire isn't necessary in Kanto - Flying is just as good apart from Magnemite and Magneton in most cases. Iron Tail -> Will-O-Wisp Double Team -> Dig/Aerial Ace/Toxic Use extremespeed. Snorlax (Consider no others!) Blastoise should have Brick Break instead of Strength, giving Blastoise a means of handling Normal, Steel, and Ice type pokemon that it wouldn't have a means of hurting otherwise, as well as a back-up for rock-types that aren't weak to water, like Omanyte and Kabuto. Blastoise also IS the best starter choice because with this moveset, Blastoise is pretty much at an advantage or neutral against every single gym and main storyline battle, with water moves to handle Brock, Bite for Misty's Starmie, a possible temporary use of Dig for Lt. Surge, Ice Beam for Erika, Bite for Sabrina, Water moves for Blaine and Giovanni, Brick Break and Bite for literally all of Lorelai's pokemon, Water moves for Bruno's rock-types, Bite and Ice Beam for Agatha, Ice Beam for Lance, and it can handle your rival the best of all the starters. It's the only one with a non-stab super effective answer for the rival's starter with ice beam for Pidgeot and Venusaur, Bite for Alakazam, Brick Break for the Ratticate until it dies, and water moves for Arcanine and Rhydon. With this moveset, the only gym or main story battle Blastoise has no answer for is Koga, and that's only because all of his pokemon are either flying types or have levitate, making Dig useless. In literally every other important encounter, Blastoise absolutely dominates the main story battles, while Venusaur is your Rival's punching bag (literally his first two pokemon are BOTH super effective against it) and Charizard's access to Rock Slide gives it a lot more use than Venusaur who struggles to have any type advantages during just about any important battles. In a Kanto playthrough, Blastoise just striaght up carries the game, Charizard holds its own, and Venusaur is personally victimized by its poor move pool, lack of type coverage, and bad type match-ups. Literally more than half of your rival's team bullies Venusaur. It's weak to Pidgeot, Charizard, Exeggcutor, and Alakazam, his Gyarados isn't weak to Grass, leaving only his Rhydon as a threat that Venusaur can handle. And the Elite four is no easier. Lorelai's ice and psychic types are super effective, and Agatha's pure poison team resists just about anything Venusaur can throw at them, and Lance's whole team is either Dragon or Flying, resisting Venusaur's grass moves. Meaning that Venusaur just gets beaten into submission by the late game. In the end, Blastoise is just straight up the best option hands down.

I'm going to cut you off there, Charizard does indeed NOT hold its own if you are implying that Charizard is somehow superior to Venusaur. Don't forget, Charizard gets it's *ss handed to it on a silver platter in the Elite Four. Not to mention the literal beginning of the game. Also, Venusaur isn't exactly horrible in the elite four. Beats Lorelei's Cloyster pretty good because of its lack of ice type attacks. If you land the first hit, it could beat Dewgong because Venusaur is somehow slightly faster. Does the same shit against Bruno. Agatha's Arbok and both Gengar's still can't do much. Lance's Gyarados and both Dragonair's can't do much to Venusaur either. It still beats Geovani, (Twice). I will admit, Sabrina and Blaine give Venusaur a hard time but look at it this way, Venusaur still has Solar Beam, a more powerful STAB than both the other starters could dream of, Growth, which Charizard AND of course Blastoise never had that kind of luxury, Leech Seed, with leech seed Venusaur dies a lot later and maybe even long enough to do big damage. It also dominates the beginning of the game because of its effectiveness against Brock and Misty. I have no Idea why you state Venusaur "gets beaten into submission by the late game". I agree with you, Blastoise totally dominates Lorelei even though it doesn't normally have effective attacks. On that note, I strongly agree with having brick break instead of strength. I admire your wisdom in that. Your opinion about Blastoise is not misplaced. It just seems like you think Venusaur sucks in comparison.

I tried out the team and I'll admit, one of the best teams i ever used. First time using Jynx for me too, it was a pretty great team member and I would not mind using it again. Though, I suggest giving Snorlax Brick Break over Seismic Toss. Also, what happened to the whole, fire types don't do well in Kanto thing. Anyway, great video. Can't wait for Charizard.

Here's who I used for my Blastoise: Blastoise had the moveset you described. Raichu had Thunderbolt, Thunder, Brick Break, and Iron Tail. Ninetales had Flamethrower, Will-o-Wisp, Quick Attack, and Confuse Ray. I then used Rhydon with Earthquake, Rock Blast, Rock Slide, and Brick Break. Then Venomoth with Giga Drain, Psybeam, Psychic, and Stun Spore. Lastly, I had Dragonite with Fly, Thunder Wave, Outrage, and Brick Break. As you can see I love to use the move Brick Break.

I'd go 1)blastoise surf,earthquake,ice beam,bite 2)raichu thunderbolt,thunderwave,quick attack,thief 3)kadabra psychic,recover,shadow ball,shock wave 4)dodrio drill peck,fly,pursuit,return 5)snorlax body slam,strength,shadow ball,brick break 6)filler add whatever doesn't matter (if want for e4 rematch add heracross or w/e) hence this is why blastoise is the best starter, since venusaur has a quick boost early and is barely needed later, while with blastoise you don't even need a 6th member and you're gucci late game.

I personally love Jynx... ice and psychic typing with bad ass STAB moves? The only downside is in the original Red and Blue, she couldn't learn any psychic moves naturally; you had use the TM on her. She can basically own the elite four and your rival almost entirely by herself.

My team: - Blastoise (Hydro Cannon, Blizzard, Surf, Skull Bash) - Pidgeot (Fly, Steel Wing, Aerial Ace, Quick Attack) - Raichu (Thunder, Thunderbolt, Strength, Thunder Wave) - Nidoking (Megahorn, Earthquake, Toxic, Cut) - Gengar (Shadow Ball, Curse, Psychic, Confuse Ray) - Flareon (Fire Blast, Flamethrower, Bite, Hyper Beam) I beat the Pokémon League with this team (they were all about level 52). I had some trouble defeating Bruno, but I did it after the 4th attempt.

A note about Pokémon X (idk why I’m saying this here) You get SOO many Pokémon handed to you in this game. Snorlax is basically given to you as an opportunity to catch it early on. Then you’ve got your fossil, Lucario, Lapras, the legendary (basically makes you catch it), and another one or two I’m forgetting. I don’t remember another game gifting you that many Pokémon like that with at least 3 handed to you and a few others purposefully put in your way. I like Lucario and Lapras but when they are just handed to you I don’t really like to use them.

Arcanine is almost always a trusty companion for me in Fire Red Nuzlocke challenges. I usually give it Flamethrower and Overheat for STAB (Flamethrower as main and Overheat just for very hard hits in case of a special defense tank) Bite and Extreme Speed. Nidoking always gets a physical set from me being Earthquake, Megahorn, Shadow Ball (Sludge Bomb postgame) and Rock Slide. Also you forgot a Flying type, who I'd use instead of Jynx.

Flareon is actually better than both Ninetails and Arcanine. It gets shadow ball, iron tail and return/body slam which work great of it’s incredible 130 attack.

You can get it near Mt moon Eggcercute: giga drain, solerbeam, psychic. You can get exercute that's a high level near the patch of grass when you save the little girl from the hypno. Dragonite:dragon claw, wing attack, thunder, flamethrower. You can get dragonire in shaphrion Pidgeot: aerial ace, mirror coat, fly, quick attack. You can't catch it in route

Ninetales can use Will-o-wisp, and that's an ok move, but there's no need for a Fire type in Kanto imo. I'd replace it with a flying type like Fearow, it does what the fire type needs to do and provides access to Fly.
