You can find links to these rods and my detailed conclusions on them in the video description. Let me know what your thoughts are on how these rods have performed on lakes and ponds!

As a fellow Utahn and new Tenkara guy I genuinely appreciate your videos. I absolutely LOVE that you don't hide the places you fish like so many do. I know I've commented this same thing several times, but I seriously think it's awesome that you do it. Awesome video as always brother!

Just came across this video - thanks for the comparison! I am new to Tenkara and do most of my fishing now on stocked ponds and lakes. I bought an 8 ft rod kit on Amazon for $40. A basic rod, but first time out I was hooked (pardon the pun). This helps me decide on the next rod I purchase. I hope to eventually fish mountain streams!

The pun is totally welcomed my friend. Thank you so much for watching and I’m glad it helped you. Your 8’ rod is probably better for the streams with a longer rod being more appropriate for this element or perhaps dual purpose and good for both too! I fish mostly 9-11’ rods for the bulk majority of my mountain streams, even with heavy vegetation. Checkout other videos on my channel for that inspiration too! :)

thank you for this video. my 13 and 9 yo sons are trying to fish in the lakes and rivers all around us in switzerland. they also like to use our SUP as a kayak and fish but have no idea what they are doing and end up mostly with tangled lines and i fear losing an eyeball when the 9 year old casts. Thanksfully we discovered pole fishing without a reel from Fishing with Carl and now I found this amazing video to show how we can use bqsically one Tankara rod to fish rivers, streams, ponds and lakes all witha rod that fits in pocket and no reel or need to cast. iappreciate all the details of fly and line and rod. thank you. as a mom with no fishing experience i ned all the help I can get

Just spent yesterday fishing a local gas station pond here in Florida catching at least a dozen 1lb-ish bass on a 13' SeaQuest tenkara rod, but also a DragonTail ShadowFire 365. Both handled these rather bigger, aggressive fish very well. Of course, the Shadowfire 365 just offers a much superior fishing experience than the SeaQuest, but the SeaQuest is a nice rod/kit for a mere $60, and one of the few (maybe only?) cheap rods that is a true 6:4. Anyway, while I was having one of my best fishing days ever, what was delivered to my front door? My pre-order DragonTail Ragnarok 400! Woohoo! Can't wait to try that out!

I found myself engaged in a post from Tenkara Talk on Facebook that asked why people were so afraid to order from Japan. I basically responded that Japanese rods are not catching any less fish than the American/Chinese rods. In addition to that, many content creators are experimenting with cheap fun little rods and I think your SeaQuest example really proves that it's all about the experience anyway. I think it's cool you found that rod. I will have to look into it. You are going to love that Ragnarok my friend. I don't need a 13' rod a lot but I find myself "wanting" to need one because it's just too good. Thanks for watching and conversing with me! :)

@@skiddyfishing the internet has made this a very small world, especially in retail sales. I will order just about anything from anywhere, and it's nice that sites like AliExpress, Ebay, and Amazon make that even easier (and safer) than ordering directly from a website in another country. I actually lived in Japan for 3 years (unfortunately a long time ago before I took up a fishing hobby), so I don't have any problem ordering anything from Japan. I have two MaxCatch zoom rods (one longer, one shorter), as well as the 13' SeaQuest rod, and even after owning the DragonTail Hellbender, ShadowFire 365, and now the Ragnarok, I continue to be very impressed with the MaxCatch and SeaQuest rods. Are they as good as the DragonTail rods? No, but for half (or even 1/3) the price, they're at lot closer in quality/enjoyment than they should be. After just wiggling it around indoors, I already suspect that the Ragnarok will be replacing my ShadowFire 365 as my current favorite tenkara rod. It's definitely a "wow". Thanks for all the content! Your videos continue to be a favorite!

Really like this. Great way for an outsider to understand difference s between rods. Would probably be useful other water types and situations.

What about the Zen Tenkara Sagi as a single length, heck even the Zako? If you'll include zooms then you should also consider the Zen Tenkara Suimenka and the Zen Taka. All these rods will cast long to reach pond or lake fish. Just a suggestion...

Sadly I don’t have the luxury of owning every practical rod for the challenge and there are so many great options missing including Zen Tenkara. I mention just before I fish the first rod that I only had what I could work with which was the 6 rods between two brands. If you would like to send a demo to the channel, I would happily fish it and give it the spotlight it deserves. Otherwise I understand there is redundancy and a separate mention about how “just because I find a result for me, doesn’t mean that applies to everyone”. I try to make that known up front. 😇
