Yeah, the Daiwa Sigiri 39 hasn't been available for more than two years. I didn't want to buy the 45 originally, but I couldn't find the 39 anywhere, so I settled for the 45. It's too long for my normal overgrown streams, but I make a trip sometimes to a couple of places where the 45 is a beautiful fit, and it's really good. Last spring I got past the rod buying stage because I'm nearing the end of my stream-fishing life. I own a dozen fixed length rods and ten zoom rods. My normal fishing base is Maine where overgrown streams are the norm, and I have beautiful short rods for that: The Tenkara USA Rhodo is the upper end of the length, and the 200 - 245 cm rods for me are the Wild Water Shortie, the Dragontail Foxfire, and the beautiful Tanuki Golden Trout, my slight favorite. With a 2-meter line and a meter of tippet, I have all of the reach there is on these small streams. Occasionally, I carry along the Uzaki Nissin Japanese Pocket Mini V3 and the Uzaki Nissin Air Stage Hakubai, but the Hakubai doesn't fold down very tightly. For decades I used fly rods as tenkara rods; nearly all of the line stayed in the reel. Thanks to my discovery of Tenkara Addict back in 2019 (I think I caught his seventh or eighth post--winter fishing), I realized no reel would ever be necessary and the line would be lighter, too. Once in a while I still use my fly rods for special occasions--fishing in Iceland, in the UK, or in Europe (never made it to South America), but in the main, in my old age, it's tenkara for me and I have become an addict too. I have now fished some famous streams in several countries with tenkara rods, and it is liberating. And here at the end of 2022, I can see the final season approaching. I will travel to Yorkshire next summer to fish at the Kilnsey Estate, which is a very different sort of fishing, and I will take the Daiwa Sigiri 45 and the Uzaki Nissin Japanese Pocket Mini V3. After that I will slide past 80, and who knows what happens. I'm glad I paralleled your discovery of tenkara with my own exploration, Tristan, and it's been fun. Wyoming is a beautiful place to live, and I envy the fishing ahead of you there.

That's beautiful, Robert. Thanks for sharing! I've got all of those rods too (thanks in large part to you!), and I agree with your assessments. The Tanuki Golden Trout is such a great little rod. I think I speak for a lot of us when I say that I can only hope to still be fishing at 60 and 70, let alone 80!

I've (very) occasionally done it for years. It's just annoying to do lol. I'd rather spend that time fishing. But sometimes I feel like spending the extra time to make it happen. Thanks for watching, Darryl.

Ah, so glad you finally found the smaller Sagiri. I've been waiting for your review and, like you, it's become my favorite rod (I've had it for a little over 1 year). That being said, it's often just too long for the streams I fish in the Catskills, and I've fallen in love with the new 240 cm Headwaters from Tanuki. I'm almost covered for everything I want to do, just on the lookout for something in between - 280-320 cm, but can't bring myself to pull the trigger on the Kurenai 30. And, BTW, I thought you were moving to one of my favorite places in the US - Butte! Looks like you changed gears and avoided Cancer. Enjoy Wyoming.

I’m happy for you that you finally acquired the elusive Daiwa Sagiri 39MC. I very much enjoy fishing it, but knowing you can’t find replacement parts for it I don’t take chances with it if I know there could be larger fish. I have found the Kurenai HM 39 fishes very similar to the Sigiri 39MC and the parts are more available.

It'll be a sad day when I break it, but I'll enjoy it while I can!

The Kurenai HM39 is a great casting rod. If you get a chance to fish with one, I am sure you will like it. My advice to anyone with a rod similar to these is to use 6x or smaller line. It is better to donate a fly then break the rod.

I’m delighted you could finally get the 3.4-3.9 Sagiri! It is indeed my overall favorite rod, and remains so - despite the fact that a clumsy, old-guy episode last month left this beloved tenkara about two inches shorter than its original length. Where I live in the east, I cannot use the Sagiri on smaller, brushier native streams; but it is a delight on larger waters (and ponds for warmwater fish). In seeking out a replacement tip from both Tenkarabum and Daiwa U.S. corporate, I was advised the rod is no longer in production, nor are replacement parts in inventory. So, the lesson is clear: enjoy your Sagiri … but don’t be a clumsy old guy!
@TenkaraAddict2 жыл бұрын
Sigh, I figured as much. That's a bummer. Such a good rod!
@michaelsmith71932 жыл бұрын
@@TenkaraAddict Indeed. I can only hope that Daiwa will borrow a page from American tackle merchants and introduce a “new and improved!” Sagiri in the future … but it’s tough to see how it can be improved.
@bobbybuglione57972 жыл бұрын
@@michaelsmith7193 I believe Daiwa replaced it with the Seiryu X line (the X35 being the most comparable to the 39MC). Plenty of people like them; fixed length and a tad softer. I plan to buy one if I ever break my Sagiri 39MC, but it's still strong after years and years and plenty of fish that it had no business landing. Most rods have come and gone but this one will stay as long as possible. If you want to sell off your broken rod for parts, I'm sure there's some of us that would be interested (sounds like you snapped the tip, though).
@michaelsmith71932 жыл бұрын
@@bobbybuglione5797 Thank you for the info on the Seiryu X line - I really appreciate that. Yes, alas, I broke the tip on my Sagiri, but only about 2”; so I’ve been able to attach a new Lillian. Still casts and fishes reasonably well. But of course, it’s not like it was. I wonder if Daiwa’s corporate presence in the U.S. realizes what a prized rod it was. Again, thank you for the information about the X line!
@bobbybuglione57972 жыл бұрын
@@michaelsmith7193 Glad you were able to salvage the rod. 2 inches isn't much so I would just fish it as is, but if you have other rods, you could try swapping in a different tip section to see if it fits and then source a replacement from that model. It may change the feel a bit, but who knows, maybe it would be similar enough to make it whole again.
