Nice! Love this idea on how modular the double bobber stopper version is. Just tried fishing a Texas rig w/ a bead for the first time this weekend. I will defiantly give this a try but like the idea still having the bead for a bit of noise. Bobber stop > worm weigh > bead > bobber stop > hook.

Good luck out there! Let me know how it goes for you.

I don't use one on top, but I started fishing my texas rigs with a bobber stopper between the weight and the hook. Its great for switching between a texas and carolina rig on the fly. You can also change the length of your carolina rig lead easily as well. Sometimes I'll have the carolina lead as short as 6". Other times out to 3 feet. That bobber stopper also takes stress off your knot.
@SteveRogersOutdoors Жыл бұрын
The ability to change that leader length is quite impressive. I was so happy with it!

Your one of only people I've ever heard talk about doing this with double bobber stops! I have seen someone else talk about it once but I can't remember who? So after showing a buddy this finness carolia/adjustable texas rig. He started messing around with drop shots. He used bobber stops on each side of his dropshot hook with no knots. Then tied his weight at bottom. It was a good idea & you could adjust the hight off bottom on the fly. But it had 1 major flaw!!! If you lost your weight on a snag & then hooked a fish before you get it back to the kayak or boat. Your fish will slide the hook right off the broken line! So I never messed with that
@SteveRogersOutdoors Жыл бұрын
Interesting. I hadn't heard of that one. There sure is a lot of possibilities there. Thanks for sharing!
@maxcole3930 Жыл бұрын
@@SteveRogersOutdoors if you could make it so there was another knot to keep your hook from coming off, if you lost your weight. Then it could be a good technique. I couldn't think of a way to do that? Always open to ideas as usual!

I’ve done this in the past for “mojo” rigging when I ran out of the specific weights. I definitely like using a bobber stop to protect the knot unless using a snell knot
@SteveRogersOutdoors Жыл бұрын
It sure does a great job of it! Thanks for watching.
@modelsncrawlers3209 Жыл бұрын
I like that technique, I'll need to try it. This prolly isn't the best thing to do, but i run the line thru my worm weight twice. Slide your line thru the weight, loop it back to the top and go back thru a second time and then tie on your lure with whatever tag end length you decided to leave yourself for a T-rig or C-rig. You can adjust it by loosening the line at the weight and sliding it in either direction. Again, prolly not the best option lol, but it works. I started doing this bcuz I'm a newer angler and i don't have a lot of tackle options yet lol!

I’ve been using Carolina Keepers for probably 40 years now. On a heavy weight I’ll use 2. I only use them with Carolina rigging. Saves time and one knot instead of 3. Those extra 2 knots are just extra failures waiting to happen. Also there’s no short leader shock when setting the hook. I’ve broke leaders using the swivel method. Also you can adjust the distance on the fly without re-rigging.

Don’t they make bobber stoppers with different inside diameters to accommodate different line diameters? I seem to recall picking a small size for my panfishing rigs. Anyone know about that?
@jamesbarron1202 Жыл бұрын
Yes they make different sizes. Tackle Warehouse has a big selection.
@gospideygo8781 Жыл бұрын
I usually add a bead and use a brass worm weight for the extra clicking sound and don’t peg my Texas rigs - usually leave about 18 inches or so from hook to bobber stop. Seems to help with the bass not feeling the weight right away. However, I think adding the extra bobber stop below the weight and leaving maybe a foot or so of play for the weight as a Carolina rig will give me the best of both worlds.
@SteveRogersOutdoors Жыл бұрын
It was really interesting to mess around with for sure.

@SteveRogersOutdoors Жыл бұрын
I haven't done a lot with the free rig, but I would sure think that would be a great bait to give it a go with. I have so much confidence with gill-style baits. They tend to get some big bites too.

Actually this is a little trick I've been doing for almost 5 yrs now. I did it on accident one evening & added 2 bobber stops on accident. I almost always keep it set up this way sense. I dont have my weight slide back until I've been using it a long long while. I'll slide the stops & weight up when I re-tie so eventually stops will lossen up a little. I also combine it with my #2 hyper wire split rings on my hooks. Making a wobble head style plus adjustable teax rig. I always called it a finness carolia. All my buddies thought it was genius back when they first saw me doing it. Little did they know I did it on accident rigging in the dark... But it's been one of my main set ups sense for Texas rigging!

I've used the second one but more so when I'm punching with big weights...it keeps the big weight from hitting your knot on every punch and wearing on it.

We always called that the "baby Carolina" or "Carolina lite" setup. I first heard about it from Mikey Balzz a few years ago and found that it was a really great way to get the best of both worlds! It's so easy to do and it really works amazingly well!
@SteveRogersOutdoors Жыл бұрын
I was so pleased with how well it worked. Very fast and simple!
@secretbassrigs Жыл бұрын
@@SteveRogersOutdoors the "Baby Carolina Rig" has been known as the "MOJO RIG" since the 1990s. Cylinder weights, originally used for in-line spinners, were used and meant to be more weedless in rocks and rip rap. I'm in my 50s, I used worm weights as a teenager because I could't afford the "mojo" weights, not for the little hand full you got for the price from the "Mojo Weights co." The Merlo Lure Co, by Steve Merlo, made very small hand poured slug-gos and worms, no more than 2", to be used for Mojo Rigging. They were nose "pinned" with #4 or #6 drop shot hooks, and the flat part of any small soft plastic bait (reapers, leaches, hellgrammites, baby craws) was rigged as the bottom. The flat bottom helped them rise and glide back down when twitched. A small swivel was used, instead of a stopper, to prevent line twist. It's the most realistic fry presentation I've ever used. Try it with a short section of a hand poured worm, or section of ROBO WORM. Now is the season with the fry hatched. You'll see what I'm talking about. Give it short snaps for the retrieve. You'll see how effective something so small and simple can be on big bass, especially when nothing else seems to work.

What are your thoughts on using a toothpick like back in the day? Or I think I have a pack of rubber or plastic “toothpicks” that you can wedge in there? Would that work in the same way? Either way, this an awesome tip though, I like the ability to switch up the bait presentation on the fly. Thank you again Steve!

Anyone thig with adjustable carolina as I'm calling it... If you use a med- light wire hook & elastech baits. The will float up off bottom. The you can adjust how high you want them to float if you wanted! Like a reverse dropshot. I play around with my baits in clear shallow water so I can see them & how my set ups & my manipulation moves the baits. It helped me a lot! Not as good as your underwater footage though! Can't beat your footage!!! I'd like to see some elastech baits on the finness carolia & see how they actually look in deeper water!!!
