Fantastic video, I have a pack of smaller jig rig hooks in size 1 with an EWG from Japan, I believe they're from a company called Zappu. Wish I did this set up a couple days ago. Even a normal Ned head with an EWG gets stuck on grass and sometimes gets hung up as well.

Steve I have been fishing this rig most of the summer. You can definitely make some heavy duty versions of the Jika Rig using Spror's HD Prime mini clips 30 Lbs. Size #4 or the tactical angler clips in the 50 lb class rating. Or if you're using some big hooks like a 5.0, you can use their 75 lb rated clips. Bass Pro Stacy king is a well versed angler with the Jika Rig and there's a few articles he's written. He power fishes this setup using heavy weights 3/8 oz to half ounce. He uses it instead of a Texas rigged, worm and even a jig. Sometimes. He says he loves throwing it into brush pile and heavy cover. If you Google him with the chica reg, you'll see the articles I'm talking about. One last note. Steve, I have made many variations of the Jika Rig and I have used a barrel swivel on the end of my setup. I found that it hung up more with the barrel swivel it was not necessary like you would use on the Tokyo rigs. The clips I mentioned previously make this rig extremely weedless. Plus You can change at hooks and weights on the fly to accommodate your situation . You could make them with split rings but I don't like using split rings because your line can get caught in the gap and fray plus the hook eye gets stuck in the gap and it does not allow as much range of motion. If you wanted to go to the split ring route. The best way to do it would be by a ring hooked such as the ones VMC makes or gamagatsu. This way you have a solid ring to tie your line too and the hook will have full range of motion. Then you would only need to use a number two or three split ring to attach your drop shot weight. This would be equivalent to the jig rig that owner used to make which they have now discontinued. But owner will be coming out with a new line of ringed extra-wide gap hooks this fall.

@@SteveRogersOutdoors a few weeks ago I was fishing on a local pond near my home on my lunch break from work. I only had about a half an hour to fish using the Jika Rig with a floating purple worm. I was able to catch nine bass in less than 20 minutes. The bass were a good size for this small pond. One additional tips Steve I have found. I really like soft plastics that have some buoyancy or float. Pretty much love using any of the z-man products as the elastic is extremely durable and has good buoyancy for the most part. It definitely helps keep the bait off the bottom. Also, if you're dead sticking this like a shaky head, I think it gives the lure some natural action.

Steve, I've used the VMC Rugby jig head that comes with an EWG hook as well as a Texas rigged Ned bait with an offset worm hook(size 1 for a TRD) but, the ability to change the weight size changes things. The weight is also free to move like the wobble headed jig heads. I was able to throw my Ned rig into a known lay down or brush pile (can't see it underwater but it's there. I've lost plenty of setups on it) with the Texas rigged TRD and snagged a few bass. The biggest problem I encountered was getting the hook point to stay in Elaztech ( or, really any bait) it's nearly impossible so, the hook point constantly popped out . That made it hook onto the structure and resulted in lost baits. I had to bury it so deep I was missing bites. I guess I shouldn't use Elaztech TRD baits when Texas rigging, it's not gonna stand up anyway without the shroomz head. BTW, in the video you showed what looked like a flat bottom/topped jig head. Who makes that? I may want to move off of ZMan's Shroomz if I can find a better "stand up" head. Maybe I'll try your idea. I'm big on using a Ned! Thanks
@SteveRogersOutdoors Жыл бұрын
Thanks for all this info! That jig head is a Strike King ned head. It can definitely be tricky getting the Elaztech to sit right.

A rig that does a lot of the same thing is the Tiny Child rig. It has it's own down side in that the weight goes into the end of your plastic but you can save some $ by using nails and super glue.
