About the criticisms like ‘the ride is too short’ or ‘it’s not the highest drop’ etc, is irrelevant. The park is meant to be taken at a leasurely pace: the people at Efteling are not thrill ride builders; they’re story tellers. And that shows…
@ageoflove19802 жыл бұрын
Efteling is my home park and I love it, but I disagree with this statement. If somebody thinks a ride is to short or not exciting enough thats a perfectly valid criticism. Why not, if thats their opinion? I dont tthink its that strange if you have to wait for Baron for 60 min and your ride takes 1:30, your conclusion is... wow that was great, but it would have been cool if it was longer? Actually, a lot of people's vlog mention this so you cant just dismiss that with : "You are wrong, your opinion is irrelevant". I understand it not a thrill park like Walibi Flevo for example, but then again, the rides at Disney are usually a lot longer too than at the Efteling. I do think the dark rides are fine but the coasters definitely could have been a bit longer. That doenst mean they are not good, just that there is always room for improvement.

I work at Efteling and I definitely don't think it is irrelevant, you might disagree with the criticism about the ride being too short but it is still valid criticism, I love baron but if it had another inversion or something I think it would be even better because it really feels like the ride's over in a few seconds. I do get where you're coming from though, it is not a nice feeling if people only look at the layout and not the whole package.

The story of Symbolica is pretty much you are granted an audience with the king, the guy on the stairs is explaining all the rules of the meeting and Pardoes, the court jester (and Efteling mascot since 1989) shows up saying how boring this all is and he uses a spell to grant you entrance to the "cooler" parts of the castle. The story of Villa Volta is about Hugo whose group of bandits raids an abbey and is cursed by God. His house is cursed until someone with a pure soul enters, so he asks you to enter the house in hopes of lifting his curse.

Efteling, The Netherlands, began in 1952 (celebrating 70 years this year) and as you said, started with the fairytale forest. The Indian Waterlilies (as shown in your video) was invented by Queen Fabiola of Belgium. In 1982 the Python was opened and other coasters and darkrides were opened as well. The Gondoletta's sailing in the park was the original track to Fatamorgana, and was meant to be a test track, but then they decided to keep it as it was, so families could take a pause, enjoy the park while eating what they had brought along. So The track in Fatamorgana is a smaller copy of it! Efteling has received numerous prices incluiding the Best Amusement Park in Europe. Most theming was done by Anton Pieck untill the eighties, but the park still designs in his footpath! You'll notice that Pieck was hooked on the stories and theming of The Grimm Brothers. You probably missed the showground like in Phatasialand. I grew up only 20km from there, so I am a bit biased, but this is by far the best park for families with children of different ages. Thanks for your overview. Nice to see an American perspective.

Joris en de draak had track issues, you're lucky it was open indeed! By now they changed part of the track to metal, for durability reasons. Fatamorgana is even more impressive when you realize that Efteling invented the technology to make it work. The animatronics are operated by cables, and the "programming" is done by grooves on a drum, and pegs moving in the grooves, making the animatronics move. And they maintain this tech to this day!

The story of Symbolica is pretty simple: You arrive at the palace of the king for an audience. His butler , Mr. O.J. Punctuel, prepares you for the audience with a long list of rules you have to follow. His name is a pun because it means more or less exactly that. While boring you to death with naming all those rules, he is interuppted by the court jester, Pardoes. He opens up the stairs in order for you to take a detour through the palace so you can avoid the Punctuel guy and his dumb rules. And with this your alternative tour through the palace begins. During the tour you can spot the butler Puncuel here and there spying on you because he just doenst trust you, hiding in some weird places. All end well of course because after exploring the palace you finally end up at the kings feast where he appears to be happy to see you, you do a final dance and that concludes your visit. So yeah, not exactly Shakespeare, but thats the point because you dont have to understand to story to enjoy the ride, because all it comes down to is just a tour of a fantasy palace. The 3 tours are not that different, its just one section thats different, but its kinda cool they make use of the trackless system to make it possible. The interactive thing is the only bit that is underwhelming about the ride and seems like a bit of an afterthought. At some points in the tour you can make the vehicle turn a bit to the one or other side, and make some colours appear or make a different musical instrument play or whatever but it doenst seem to do much. Some people argue that the attraction would have been better without the interactive thing because it just distracts from the experience and i probably agree with that opinion.

So the water coaster you didn't want to pronounce is called "de vliegende Hollander" which in english is "The flying Dutchman" its honestly my favorite ride next to "Joris en de draak" which in english is "Joris and the dragon" or Fire vs water. The flying Dutchman is based on a guy that plays into the times of the VOC that is really cool. Basically the guy screams "IK ZAL VAREN!" at the sudden part at the beginning which means "I SHALL DRIVE" (i think) which means that even though he's going through a hard storm but he has/wants to go to over seas. Which he does, but its dumb to go over seas because this sea has like these high waves and stuff which is very dangerous. Flying Dutchman, and Bird Rok (it’s not rock, it’s the bird’s name)

A Rok is a mythical bird from Arabian lore. It has nothing to do with music or stone.

Dutch is the second closest language to English (after Frisian, which is spoken by a small number of people in the most northerly part of the Netherlands). I find you can occasionally understand phrases of Dutch even if English is your only language. I ❤ your videos nearly as much as I ❤ Efteling. Is there another family B&M dive coaster anywhere else in the world? Or a dive coaster that is better themed?

I wanted to ask you how are the lines for the parks you've been to in Europe? Are there front of the line systems or is it all just waiting in lines?
@CoasterDash2 жыл бұрын
Everything is standby but most of the waits throughout the trip have been quite minimal. the busiest parks have been Efteling, Tripsdrill & Europa Park.
@jarmoliebrand20052 жыл бұрын
@Lloyd Efteling can have long queues. But considering your question, I assume you’re not European and if you could do some sort of Europe trip in the off-season, the queues would be really manageable. If not, the some of the big rides (Python, Joris en de Draak, Baron 1898, Vliegende Hollander, Symbolica, Droomvlucht and [on summer days] Piraña) could easily have 60-90 minute queues. A strategy I’ve used on busy days is to start with Villa Volta, Dreamflight, Carnaval Festival and Vogelrok. Most people will either ride Fata Morgana (since it’s next to the entrance), or go straight for the coasters in the Ruigrijk area (and maybe also Symbolica, that’s also easy to reach). You’ll be flying through those first four attractions. The other attractions near those four rarely have long queues/don’t have queues at all, such as the Fairy Tale Forest and Sirocco. After around three hours, most people have done all the coasters in Ruigrijk and head in your direction. From that point onwards you can go to Ruigrijk as well. The queues there won’t be shorter, but the queues for the rides you’ve just been on will be longer. You probably won’t regret using a strategy like this. But… there’s plenty of room for spontaneity and I only think this is really necessary if you visit just on one day that’s really busy.
@jarmoliebrand20052 жыл бұрын
@@evansoerland They can shave bits of time of at the coasters… but in my experience that’s usually a five or ten minute difference (still worth it). But on Symbolica it often shaves off at least half the queue line. Single rider is ridiculous on that thing.

Come in june most parks are open then and the weather is ussually nice. The cues aren't really there either unless the locals have a school holiday. Well except Egteling an Europaprks they always have some cueing.

I have a question for you. For these Europe parks, do you ask prior to your visit to film on the rides?
@CoasterDash2 жыл бұрын
Nope, you can just show up with a GoPro Chestmount and you’ll be good to go. You do need to get filming permissions at the front of the park at Energylandia, Bobbejaanland & Tripsdrill, but all you do is fill out some paperwork and that’s it. I really appreciate the European amusement parks and how they almost always allow recording onride.

Hi! Thanks for a great show of Eftling. Quick question, were there any headphones available for things to be translated into english or other languages? Say for the shows or movies? Thanks in advance.
@jarmoliebrand20052 жыл бұрын
Baron 1898 and Symbolica have preshows that are partially in English. I believe Ravelijn show has a headset, but I haven’t done that one often and I’m Dutch so I don’t need them. Most attractions have a bit of English, French and German translations, but older rides with preshows could really use headphones (looking at you, Villa Volta).
@arturobianco8482 жыл бұрын
As far as i know only the live show they preform has that. Don't know how good it is cause well i speak dutch. But it doesn't really matter except for the mad house i think the pre shows are a bit long if you don't understand them.

You are lucky to have ridden Joris en de Draak. It has a lot of problems, so thats why it was only open with 1 track. In October its getting a 3 mont during renovation from GCI. Efteling is a company that is run by 1 share holder. And that is there own Stichting Natuur Park de Efteling. Its an interesting setting. They want to invest milions but they dont wanne los power in the company. Its realy smart. This share holder is made up out of realy realy powerfull people and they have a big eye on nostalgia. Al the rides are given a lot of love and money, even if they are a maintenance nightmare, this share holder dos not give a f*ck. If they whant it, it stays no questions asked. Thats why Python was rebuild. Not very much of the normal people know this. The efteling is like: the grand grand childeren stil can ride this awesome coaster that there great great grandpa first rided. That the power of Efteling. They build icons, not rides

I still love the park, but I think that reputation has been damaged a little bit. They couldn’t really do much about Bob. It was a maintenance nightmare, had low capacity and Intamin bobsled parts are rare. I don’t really know where the removal of Polka Marina came from. Panda Dream was fine but it was outdated. It’s a good decision that they changed the film into Fabula, whilst keeping some attributes of Panda Dream. Most attractions that are removed, do still share the DNA with the former attractions, which is nice. Monsieur Cannibale really had to go. Sirocco is faster and has greater theming. I quite like the Adventure Maze, but I guess Archipel is fine too. Not really meant for people my age anyway. The removal of Spookslot really hurt. I’m quite young but have fond memories of it, but my parents grew up with this one. It might be outdated, but that’s part of the charm. It’s the first big attraction that kickstarted Efteling’s transformation into a full fledged theme park. I heard the building didn’t match safety standards, but they rebuilt Python. They could’ve rebuilt Spookslot. It was apparently the lowest rated attraction among park guests. That would’ve been another reason to end it. It still hurts. I think Danse Macabre is going to be great, but I think the sweet and outdated charms of Spookslot should’ve been maintained. I still absolutely adore Efteling.

@@jarmoliebrand2005 Polka marina was a one of from vecoma and was closed because of the same reason BOB was closed nobody was willing to make spare parts at least for a reasable price. Contry to what Yoman says efteling doesn't have infinite recources. Thats why they refurbished/rebuild python they wanted to change the lay out to but that was stopped because of financial reasons.
