Sounds like it cost a fortune to visit. Lots of museums if you have the money to enter. It is sad that only the well off can afford to visit the main museum. This is the world we live in now, the good things are reserved for the people who can pay for them. I don't want to insult your home. I know the buildings are very old but my goodness do they not ever clean them? Is it the volcanic ash in the air or is there a lot of industry in the area polluting the air and making all the buildings dirty? Does your country not like trees and green spaces? I have feelings of being closed in just from watching the video. There are not many breaks between buildings you must have to walk or drive very far to get from one place to another because the building go on forever.

Thank you sooooo much for addressing the Anne Frank House!! Not many KZbin travel related channels covering AMS have done so in the past. Anne Frank was a GER girl born in Frankfurt, the city I've been residing in for 30+ years now. I don't remember the number of times I visited that important site of World History..... When I was in school, it was mandatory for GER students to read "The Diary Of Anne Frank" in either GER or History class. This is such a wonderful video on my most favorite city in all of Europe! 😍🥰I'm GER btw...
@HappytoWander7 ай бұрын
I’m so surprised to hear that, because to me Anne Frank House is one of the most important places in the city!! we also read her diary in Canada as part of our schooling, so maybe that’s why I see it as so significant. In any case, thanks so much for the lovely comment! I’m glad you enjoyed the video 🫶

OMG... I need to take notes! I only have 3 days in Amsterdam but I already booked the Anne Frank House (yes, I stayed up until 1:00am to get the tickets 6 weeks in advance) and I'm going on the wine and cheese boat ride. Don't care how touristy it is. Cheese Museum is on my list, well... because cheese. :) You have some great ideas to add! I will be looking into them for sure. You will NOT find me in the pigeon place nor will your find me swinging from any high places either virtually or for real. Nope. I'm SO excited to go and see the beautiful city! Stroopwaffels and fries are going to make up a large part of my diet there. I can't resist. You've given me some really great ideas of places to see while I'm there. Ever thought of being a tour guide? You're amazingly knowledgable. As for figuring out how to see the tulips, it's mind boggling almost to the point where I don't know if I want to bother. 😳 That was one of the huge reasons I wanted to visit Amsterdam but now I'm thinking maybe not.
@lennybuttz216219 күн бұрын
I like the boating wine tour but I would want more than just cheese and wine. You would think they could have some other foods. I suspect you have to pay extra for the cheese and wine? Did you enjoy your trip? How were the people? Did you visit the special cafes?
@sunflowerfields440919 күн бұрын
@@lennybuttz2162 I loved my trip! They have many options for boat rides including those with more food. The ones with food are more expensive because you're getting more, but I would say they're well worth it depending on what you are looking for. The boat rides are all inclusive-or at least the ones I found. I looked through viator and found some really great options. The people were friendly and the only thing you need to watch out for are the bikes. They will mow you down if you're not careful. The cafes are nice too. I enjoyed the food and drink there. The pancake places are delicious! Good thing I did a lot of walking. 😉 The stroop waffles and french fries (who knew?) are out of this world.

@@sunflowerfields4409 WOW! That sounds amazing. Sometimes I feel like I can make a meal out of French fries. LOL The waffles looked good. I love boat rides tours. Amsterdam is one of my absolute favorite places to visit. I've been about 5 times. The food is sooo good...I have a BITTERBALLEN addiction!! Madurodam (Miniture park) is nice and the Van Gogh Museum is a must.
@lennybuttz216219 күн бұрын
Does the city look better in person? I do not like the city from this video. It looks very dingy and dark. There is no green, even the water does not look appealing. What are the people like are they friendly? I am not a fan of Van Gogh and I expect that museum is also expensive? The big museum she mentioned sounds good but she said it is very expensive, I find that scary that it's so expensive she won't even tell us how much.

Probably the best video I have seen on Amsterdam! You cover so much and explain it so well both verbally and visually. The street art area looks so cool, Anne Franks home is on my list, and you gave so many things I would not have known to look into doing. I will bookmark this video for when I make it there. How many days to you thing it takes there to get through most of these spots you mention? Going to look for other videos you have done because of the great content you put out. Thanks!

I'm an American expat living in Amsterdam Zuid for many years. My thoughts? 1. Amsterdam is not typical Dutch. It’s a tourist magnet full of tourist bars/cafes and too many drunk morons from the UK and USA. You don’t know the Netherlands if you’ve only visited Amsterdam! 2. Make sure to visit other cities to know The Netherlands...I suggest Utrecht, Delft, Rotterdam, Maastricht, Amersfoort. 3. Unless you’re wealthy, avoid hotels here. Very $$$ and often noisy anywhere near the city center. Less expensive hotels out West, or near Station South(Zuid). Best value? Get a hotel within 15-25 minutes train ride from Amsterdam-eg Haarlem if visiting Amsterdam. 4. Avoid summers-too $$$, crowded and noisy. Spring and Autumn have good weather and fewer crowds. 5. Get an OV Kaart or museum pass!

Many thanks for this video (and the Amsterdam Travel Tips for First Timers video), it was instrumental in my holiday planning! Especially: the rijksmuseum grounds, floating flower market, beginhof, albert cuyp market, vondelpark and travel/booking tips. A few things I'll mention in case they save anyone else time: ndsm/art museum was completely empty when we went, zero art (aside from the anne frank picture outside) so the ferry to NDSM Werf was a complete waste of time for us. The free rooftop views suggested: the Nemo Science museum and Library, were in my opinion a waste of time, we spent hours going to central station, walking to these places and going up to the roofs, only to find the views were massively underwhelming. The view from the library is blocked by concrete and a glass panel, and the whilst the nemo roof is not obscured, you're so far out from central amsterdam there's nothing really viewable, except i suppose the roof of the old church - from a distance. Also, you suggest trying the different fried snacks, but hunting around for them in amsterdam seems like a lost cause, aside from the chips it's next to impossible to find these things. I looked every place we walked past. Even in the albert cuyp market, aside from stroopwaffles and herring and chicken, it's just falafel, falafel, falafel everywhere. Also special thanks for the map, it was very useful, especially with the ability to toggle the layers of what to show!

Please don’t treat the women in the windows as a tourist attraction. And the RLD isn’t just prostitution and weed smoking. It’s the oldest part of the city, full of mideivel architecture and tourist attractions such as Our Lord in the Attic, the Oude Kerk, and great restaurants. That being said, I just finished my 13 visit in 13 years, and I’ve barely set foot in the RLD in several years, unless just passing through.

@@JM-lf6hf The RLD is located in the old medieval center, so, the entire city is around it. One of the oldest buildings in the center is the Oude Kerk (Old Church), built in the 1200-1300’s. Separately many of the buildings are beautiful but all pushed together like that with no trees, no space, no grass it's chaotic and not a pleasing setting. I would think a canal tour would be fun except the views seem all the same, tall smashed together skinny houses and no natural beauty. Does the sun even shine on the streets other than when it's directly overhead? The city looks dingy and gray. I know the buildings are old but can't they wash them and freshen up the appearance? What are the people like, are they friendly or do they hate tourists? How do they feel about Americans?
