I'm Australian, and my wife and I went to London and Paris in October 2018. It was my first overseas trip and my wife's second trip to Paris. We stayed very close to the Tour Montparnasse, so we did a lot of walking and sightseeing. One place that blew my mind was the Saint-Denis Bascilique where the French Kings and Queens are buried. My wife and I love Paris and its people. I'm looking forward to going back one day - hopefully in three years!

I’ve just come back from 3 days in Paris, and all I can say, is WOW!!! I want to live there!! It’s the most wonderful city on Earth, as an English lady, I’ve heard the French can be quite ‘abrupt’ for want of a better word, this is totally NOT true. They are such lovely, helpful, friendly people, relaxed and chilled. There’s so much to see and do, it’s gorgeous. I can’t say enough about how amazing this place is, we of course went to the Louvré, up to the second floor of the Eiffel Tower, at night too! We saw it in the day, but seeing it at night is something else, the night was clear, the moon was huge, I will NEVER EVER, forget that view. I cry thinking of how beautiful it was. The catacombs was great, the metro and buses were easy to use, we downloaded the Bonjour app and got 10 tickets which did us. The Bistros were fab, Angelina’s was ok, and the snails tasted amazing!! We also went on the Paris wheel, the views again were spectacular. I will 100 % return, and it is now my dream to live there, in one of the town houses, sitting on my balcony. J’adore Paris 💙🤍❤️

Went to Paris last May and really enjoyed it. Loved the cafe / bar / people watching culture, all the history and the architecture. But was most impressed by the bike culture, did a Tour to get the hang of it but then did Velib rentals and enjoyed cycling around in the late Spring sunshine. If you like cycling, you’ll Love Paris ❤️

A TV program on NHK Japan called Tokyo Eye did an experiment. When people in Tokyo were approached with "excuse me" most would just wave and walk away or respond "no English". But when they were approached with "sumimasen" or excuse me in Japanese they would stop and try to listen and help you even if they couldn't speak English well.

You were so right about Batignolles! What an amazing neighborhood! My wife and I were out exploring yesterday after our arrival and the vibe was amazing. So many families out with their children everywhere even in the evening. Really fantastic. Thank you for the recommendation. Now we just need to find that boulangerie with your map!

As someone who’s from NY who’s never been anywhere outside of America….Paris is my #1 travel destination spot. I’m one of those people who would definitely be “that tourist” with wanting to see the typical spots in Paris, not just because they’re touristic and look amazing…..but because of the history in creating them. When it comes to buildings, monuments, and any structures that were made in the like the medieval times, Roman times, etc….I think they’re worth seeing because of how much history they hold especially with what life was like back then. It’s fascinating to see those structures but then to see more modern structures around them, showing us how much the times have changed. I would also love to visit Paris during Christmas….it would definitely be super crowded but something about the lights, and how everything is decorated makes me wanna see it.

Parisians are so nice and helpful! I don't know what other people are doing to be treated poorly. My wife and I have been to the city twice in the last year and will be again this upcoming summer. I know very little French (enough for basic greetings and how to ask if they speak English) but all of our interactions with staff or random people on the street have all been very positive. They were happy to help and we generally parted with a smile and a laugh. Even one of our cab drivers was surprised when I told him how positive our experiences were. I'm sure it doesn't hurt being a goofy Canadian, but I believe a little effort on your part goes a long way - Everyone knows you are not a local, but a bit of personal effort to recognize you are a visitor to a foreign country goes a long way. At least that's been my experience traveling to countries where I don't speak the language. We did get a couple of interactions that were less exciting, but that was in a very busy pub where the waiter was run off his feet (completely understand) or when I was being an idiot and crossed the street in from of a couple about to get on their motorcycle. Thinking about that now, I am impressed I only received "what an idiot" stare and not what I would have heard back home. Look forward to our next trip, now that we have found your site.

After traveling to Europe and returning to US, I finally understand what that is makes me feel so fulfilled when I am in Europe. The genius and beauty of historical architecture has an amazingly healing effect on our psychological wellbeing. It's magnificently large sculptures and structures, when you look at them for a while you just escape. I am crying because I don't there. And that's exactly why. So, perhaps when people move and experience hardship, being out can help deal with stress. I don't know.

I have always found Parisians at least polite, often friendly - even when I spoke about three words of French. Mostly I was made an effort to try some words and didn't take up time in tourist spots. I still visit the Tunisian French Greengrocer I met the first time I visited. Good advice to stay in different arrondissement - Belleville is a favourite, but I often pick spots by tiny galleries/museums I haven't seen or random historical moments. Unless I need to be near the Librairie du Richelieu for study.

Speaking some of the local language ... I always make a point of learning at least the basic greetings and pleasantries when I travel to any country. It's part of the cultural immersion which helps you get the most out of the travel experience. I took 2 years of French in high school. Unfortunately that was 50 years ago and I haven't used it. My hope is that having learned a little bit, even in the distant past, that it will make it easier to recall a bit as I prepare for my trip in 2025 (I have until August ... plenty of time). Then again, I'm 65 and half German and I've been working on mastering German for 40 years and it's still a work in progress. 😁I will say, trying to learn a few words of Swedish for the Sweden trip was a challenge! England this past year was a breeze. 😂

Lucille, one thing that I don't find much mention of on any channels that talk about visiting Paris is whether it's worth it to go to a Moulin Rouge show. I did see one person on a chat board say to just go for the show and instead to go to Bouillon Pigalle for dinner. I was in London back in August and did take in a West End theatre show (Wicked) and that was amazing. I know Moulin Rouge is a little different from musical theatre but it's still something uniquely French. Worth it or not?

@5Gburn 17 күн бұрын
I went to the Moulin Rouge in 1989 and it was quite an experience! So many years have passed, but as I understand it, the standards and quality are the same. I say go, but rethink it if you're extremely modest as there is (very tastefully done) topless dancing. [For context, I'm a woman and I didn't feel offended in the least.]

Also, what is the temperature/weather like in the winter months january-april in both cities? super cold and rainy? moderatly cold? last thing, my fluency in french is at an elementary level, but I will be taking a french language course while I am there, if I end up choosing one of these locations, do you think i will be fine or will I have a difficult time communicating and getting around the city? thank u in advance for answering this long question. i am still in the process of deciding between studying abroad somewhere in france, italy, spain, or somewhere in the UK (I am a political science major)
