Lived the Dream....Gibraltar 1955 to 1958...We would go to the beaches at Estapona and Fuengirola and most times there would be NOBODY there whatever...!!!!...No tourists ...no hotels...no package holidays....hardly any Spanish people either in some areas.....we used to stay in a farmhouse outside Fuengirola....it's still there...been back to find it...!!!....Nobody spoke English....but that didn't stop us...Dad just knocked on the door and made out we wanted to stay...!!!!....And we did....again and again.....!!!....Miss those times.....Miss my Dear Mum and Dad......!!!!

First went late 60s , the border was effectively closed to Gib , but stayed with Grandparents a stones throw from what is now Puerto Banus. San Pedro was a group of typical run down casitas with one or two hotels. All the towns from Gib to Malaga were separated and not just one sweeping jungle of hotels and golf courses, that it is now . My father moved to Estepona and opened a Judo gymnasium , which proved a great success, but sadly the property is now derelict. Like you we sort the old properties and found them amongst the totally over built urbanos. Late 90s saw a trip inside the rock, off limits at the time to the public, with the Canadian military. 2002 to 2011 we lived just outside Jimena de la Frontera, a nucleo of houses known locally as El Cacajon , yep you read that correctly, now been back in the UK for as long , but wouldn't have missed it for anything.🙂

trying to convert from Gibraltar Pounds to other currencies through Travelex was a bit weird for me in the Travelex office in Chicago. The staff in Chicago actually told me they would not be able to convert Gibraltar Pounds to U.S. Dollars. Seemed silly to my as I could actually spend UK banknotes while I was in Gibraltar and I had no problems converting UK pounds to U.S. Dollars at their Chicago office..

The runway crossing seems rather hazardous. Do they have an emergency clearance team there in case of vehicle engine failures/ accidents or people fainting in the middle of the runway?
@MemorySeekers5 ай бұрын
Since this was made it is now only pedestrian, as a tunnel opened for cars, but yes they have airport vehicles to check the runway at closure for issues like people still on the tarmac.

This was mid October 2019, but the weather in GIB can be funny because of the rock effect. Sunny in Spain but cloudy in GIB hanging around the rock.
