Imagine if you were born into a world and everyone else around you had an extra sense that you just didn't have. A whole part of the world that's just invisible to you. Your whole species is shaped around that thing, that unknown and you can't figure out what that part is that you're missing as you've never felt it before. It's weird.
@jacobpaint8 жыл бұрын
Yeah but then you end up appreciating other things that the people with that sense don't think about so much. If you never had that sense then it's an abstract concept that you don't really understand and it's hard to miss something that you can't comprehend... unless people just keep going on about it every day - "Hey, you are really missing out on this. It's so great, it's freaking amazing, sucks to be you!" Imagine if someone told you about a mind blowing piece of music that you had never heard before and they explained what it was in abstract terms rather than telling you about the style, music and lyrics. eg. I just heard this amazing song played by a band down at the club, it really shocked me but then as I listened to it, it started to make me feel really happy. It was kind of dark but had an inner joy to it that inspired me to live every moment to the fullest.... you could only miss not having heard that song as much as you could understand that the person telling you about it seemed to like it.
@jacobpaint8 жыл бұрын
***** I think they were referring to the fact that it's impossible to imagine what sight is, at the end of their comment... it's not impossible to have some understanding of what you are missing out on, if only by the practical aspects where other people can do things, like catching a ball and you cant (although Tommy has proven he's a sharpshooter with a pistol).

Tommy, these videos are amazing. They help people who aren't feeling their best learn to appreciate the smaller things in life again, just being told explicitly something positive about things. It also helps us to empathise with the blind community, and experience the world like the blind community would. I personally watch this and shut my eyes to imagine the things that you're talking about, as if I were blind, then open my eyes again to see the pictures. And honestly, I prefer my imagination!

I have always thought of this with American paper money all being the same size. How can you tell a 20 from a one? Like when Ray Charles first started playing in clubs, he asked to be paid in cash in ones, so that he could count the money and make sure it was right. In some countries each bill is a different size, so you can't trick a blind person.

Most people think it's weird but I love the feeling of a snail crawling on my hand or arm. It's cool and squishy/firm and undulating and you can feel IT feeling it's way along and adapting it's body to the contours it can feel. Very organic and vital. I love my snails :) It's also just great to touch their skin, it's very unique because it's soft but has a lot of wrinkles, and they always respond, and will get used to you and let you stroke them after a while.
