Great discussion! I find it ironic how the juxtaposition between the conservation season, designed to reduce population numbers, and the lack of juvies this year due to breeding/nesting conditions, are meeting in the middle in 2019. Numbers of the tundra chickens needs to drop, yet hunters lament the lack of good hunts. It’s an interesting dynamic. We (the conservation community) want to reduce numbers for the health of the tundra, while we (the hunting community) want to shoot 300 birds in one hunt. I think it’s a fascinating time to watch this all play out. Mother Nature reduced the population by the low 2018 hatch. Then the 2019 conservation season has, so far, seen less harvested birds. Such a funky mix of timing and variables.

Great post! When hunters claim you can shoot as many as you want and shoot shots at unethical distances because the population needs to be decreased. Then those same guys complain about the bad hatch. Certainly an interesting dynamic.
