Y'all need to come to Japan then I just had mos burger not good at all the burger tasted microwaved and they don't have ketchup I think McDonald's in Japan is better than most burger unfortunately:/ but the most burger presentation was nice however the taste wasn't it.

MOS Burger ( M=Mountain O=Ocean S=Sun) was really big in the late 90's-early 2000s, especially in Hawaii because of the huge Japanese culture there as well as tourist.

In regards to American fast food franchises in Japan, I loved going to Mcdonald's since there are seasonal/limited-time items year around. Also I never got sick eating McDonald's all the years I was in Japan. American McDonald's always upsets my stomach 😅

I agree with freshness burger to be the best burger compared to the other burger joints. My wife and I stumbled to ate at this restaurant as we're trying to find a non-japanese food that time. We just keep our expectations low and ohh boy she liked the avocado burger a lot that we everytime we see this joint she always want to eat there a bonus for us there also an option for a low sugar bun for an extra 80yen since she need to keep her blood sugar low 😂

As a fast food coworker in America, it’s really hard to be really nice to costumers when the customers are stupid/full of themselves and having an attitude. I am nice to customers but most of them are something else lmao.

Totally agree Jimmy on Freshness Burger! When I went to Japan that place blew me away with the quality and price. They murder In N' Out which is way overrated IMHO. They even have a good hot sauce selection.

I think that many Japanese would agree with this ranking. But I just can't. The American chains (Wendy's, McD, Burger King) all have 100% beef burgers. The Asian chains (MOS, Freshness, 1st Kitchen) have Japanese-style "Hamburg" which are beef, pork and breadcrumbs. Its' just not great for a true burger-lover. These are Ok, but wouldn't be my first choice. So my ranking is Wendy's, Burger King, McD, and then the Japanese chains, MOS, Fressness and First Kitchen. If you prefer a meatloaf-style burger (which many Japanese people do), than you might flip that around, but I feel that this is correct. For a chicken burger, KFC is #1, and their filet sandwich is excellent and better than any other chain. Of course, there are many other options, such as Subway for decent sandwiches, and Yoshinoya, Sukiya and Matsuya for Gyudon (beef bowls).

Freshness Burger looks quite good, I will have to eat there next time I am in Japan, I also always eat t Mom's Touch at least twice when I am in S Korea. It is really hard to get into fast food in either country though as there is amazing, high quality, good food that is also fast and often cheaper than fast food in either Japan or S Korea.

Gelände-Burger is a weird name. Gelände is more like a common word describing the topography you see/is ahead including everything, heights, rocky paths etc. for example, SUVs/off-road cars that can handle all terrains are called Geländewagen. but then again, its fitting for japan as far as my anime knowledge goes xd

Here in Japan, ski slopes/runs are called "ge-ren-de" (JP pronunciation of gelände). Most likely Jimmy was here when it was still ski/snowboarding season, so the name is meant to evoke images of winter (notice all the white sauce and cheese, supposed to mimic snow).

Yo Jimmy, ski slopes in Japan are called Gelande (ゲレンデ), that’s why there’s white cheese on the burger, to represent snow. When winter hits a lot of people head for the slopes, so BK was trying to catch that hype train

The first burger I had while in Japan was a MOS Burger. The tomato and sauce were great, but the burger patties tasted like they came from Walmart. Next, I had BIGMAC meh (7/10); later, I had a Freshness burger while on my way to Toyosato (10/10). A while later, I had a burger from Carl's Jr.; they got my order wrong, and when they gave me what I paid for, it was burned (3/10). I would later again have a Freshness burger at Shin-Osaka station. 10/10 While I was in Rinkutown, I walked to the outlet and had a burger from KUA'AINA; it was FIRE 12/10, and my last one was a Samurai Mac at KIX 10/10.

KUA'AINA is expensive, but awesome. hey have an outlet opposite Tokyo Station. But i's not a big chain. Homeworks is another expensive but excellent burger restaurant. Their main store is in Hiroo.

I didn't have many burgers this time around but I had a lot of yakisoba noodles and other mom and pop joints chicken and such while I was over there. One place that I did enjoy was Drive in tori it was 🔥 and worth the long train ride since it was just outside of Saga.

I dont understand why some people hate Mos Burger so much. I've seen a lot of reviews by non-Japanese especially Westerners that say things like "Mos Burger is the worst hamburger chain I've ever gone." "burgers were awful." Of course, Mos Burger is not the best hamburger chain, but not the worst hamburger chain.

They're probably disappointed by the actual burger meat. Unlike American chains, which are 100% beef, MOS has Japanese-style "hanburgs" which are a mixture of pork, beef and breadcrumbs. So they taste mediocre for someone looking for a quality burger. However, many Japanese actually prefer this taste, so they are successful locally. I don't personally recommend them.

A group of friends also tried MOS burger in their trip to japan and said it was like a microwaved burger. 2 years later, two guys from my work who also tried it said it was probably the worst franchise burger they've had. But well, it's true that in Spain franchises like BK and McD get their mats localy, which normally means its 100 times better than American versions of BK and McD, so I guess after your awful experience in USA this mmust ahve tasted like heaven xd

MOS developed TERIYAKI burger in 1973. Many people love it still now. The pronunciation of "McDonald's" is difficult, we call it "MAC" here in Tokyo. Osaka people call it "MAKUDO" ( Please read "ma" and "do" low and "ku" high).
