I picked up 77 LG B4 OLED for $1599 at Costco with 5 year Allstate Warranty (for whatever it's worth better than nothing) for basement dark room. I couldn't justify a higher end LG OLED for the differential. Happy with that purchase.

Last I checked, the PS5 does not support Dolby Vision, only Xbox Series consoles do (in terms of video game consoles). The PS5 will use a similar pipeline to run HDR10 content on the display, according to Dolby themselves.

The ps5 doesn't even support Dolby vision but if you Google the question it does mention the makers of Dolby vision are working on bringing it to ps5 within the same pipeline

I know Sony won't be showing off tvs at CES, but interested to see what they have in plan for a replacement for the A95L. Looking to get either a 77" or 83". Caleb, you and other reviewers need to do your homework on the 83” LG B4. The 83” B4 has the SAME PROCESSOR as the C4 which should make the C4 and B4 in the 83” size only, very close in performance

I bought the 83'' B4 and LOVE it. Also Loved saving $1,500. I don't need the extra brightness the C4 offers and B4 is brighter for gaming. I also found it amazing how many youtubers don't explain about the 83'' having same processor and up to 144Hz VRR. Even Costco sales dudes didn't know that. Shows it on the box...lol

Has there been any progress in reducing the price of microLED? Is microLED still the best candidate for best future TV technology or do you think QD oled will get so good that microLED will be irrelevant?

Not in the next 5-20 years (if ever). Samsung and LG siginificantly REDUCED the efford in that direction, becaus they don't see a way (now) to reach consumer level costs. Maybe the cheap chinese can make it in the future, or better india starts to develop TVs, but realistically you have to wait a long time it you think of 10k$ or less.

After testing the LG G4 and the Samsung S95D, I found that the best darkroom movie viewing was on the S95D, and it's fairly noticeable. There are good and bad points about both those TVs; neither is perfect. I would say to most people who want a TV that's great at everything, the G4 is the better TV, but if your focus is the panel/picture, the S95D......so much so I sent the G4 back asap.

Colors on the Samsung S90D are way too saturated, and make SDR content look unnatural. Add to that it’s only average upscale capabilities, and I sent it back asap….the C4 is beautiful

Caleb, you mentioned that you suggest to turn off the option on the Apple TV to turn everything to Dolby vision. How do you do that ?

Go to settings, then Video and Audio: Set Format to "4K SDR" = This keeps HDR/Dolby from running all the time. Next go to Match Content: In here make sure both Match Dynamic Range and Match Frame Rate are "ON" = This will ensure that AppleTV matches the format from the provider. So if the content you're playing is in Dolby Vision then AppleTV will play it in Dolby Vision.

I've been looking at 85" TVs for over a year now. Watching all your videos (and others) to get an idea of where to go. Well, I've decided on the S95D by Samsung but of course, it only goes up to a 77" screen. What are the chances that Samsung comes out with an 83, 85 or 86 inch screen for the S95E? I'd probably wait till you did a side by side of the D vs E to determine if I wanted to pay the extra money even if they did. Thanks.. David V.

My new S90D outputting audio through a Pioneer VSX-524-K is suffering tiny but noticeable audio dropouts every 10 seconds or so. Is this a known problem? Is it ARC related? If so would an eARC AV receiver fix this? Or should I be looking elsewhere for the problem? Audio playing from other sources doesn't have a problem.

Nuance, Mr. Caleb (this is your name now). Nuances. Kidding. I have always enjoyed your nuanced approach to various controversy-adjacent subjects. But there is a caveat in your answer about whether Internet is needed. With Hisense ULED, I'm not sure if you can bypass the initial "check for update". I had to do this several times recently - I notice that after a sheer update using USB, the first action is to "check for update".

I've never wanted to own an apple TV device before. I'm very much an Android fan and dug in deep into the ecosystem. However after recently discovering how nice my Sony x700 does at faking HDR with SDR content by leaving Dolby Vision toggled on I'm sort of curious to see what a similar bump to Dolby Vision would look like. Yes I know it's fake but I've had more positives than negative experiences with it so far.

I want to challenge your assertion that TVs do a better job at upscaling than your source device! PC video players have some amazing upscaling algorithms at their disposal, and now there are even AI-enhanced ones, such as NVIDIA VSR (Video Super Resolution). I doubt even Sony TVs can beat those. madVR also sells devices that can upscale any incoming signal, though they are extremely expensive.

CES 2025 - Would like to know if we are going to finally going to get receivers that can pass through full bandwidth HDMI 2.1. And of course what HDMI 2.2 is going to mean if anything. Would also like to know if you can get any hints on when/if Nvidia is going to release the next Shield. Having finally upgraded to a UHD TV I was shocked at how crappy the UI and apps looked vs old 1080p. Apparently it is because it is trying to scale up the 1080p SDR UI and doing it very poorly.

Caleb, concerning your comments about the importance of processing when choosing a TV for dark rooms, you are forgetting that the 83-inch LG B4, unlike it’s smaller B4 siblings, shares the same processor as the C4 series TVs. Would that sway your decision to choose the C4 over the B4?

I live in the uk and the only time your tv needs to be online is for the first start up updates and if you want to use the tv apps but if your not bothered about the apps or updates just your the WiFi off on the tv and the tv will work fine

Yep me too. Find it to be more sluggish than before the update. I have a 2023 S90C in 65”. Also changed the way you enter “all settings”. Find it exceptionally clunky when watching live content via an onboard app and trying to navigate settings at the same time. Obviously making the processor work harder with the new OS.

I have a 2023 s90c that got the update that changed Tizen. It works fine on the tv. I bought a Samsung qn90c in late October. Itworked OK out of the box. Then it got update 2011 and the new Tizen. That was not good, half of my installed apps would not play content. It seemed blooming and light bleed became worse and hdr was too dark on some shows I couldn't watch no matter what settings I used. I returned that tv to Best Buy and got a Sony bravia 7. That is a better tv. I have also have a 2020 Samsung q90t and I think that is the best version of Tizen and I absolutely don't want a 2011 upgrade that will screw that Tizen (and my apps) up! As I said, the s90c qd oled is fine with the 2011 update, but not the qn90c I had. Leave my q90t alone, it works fine as it is and it's a very good tv, great picture, great Tizen.

Thanks for the info Caleb. Once I get the update, I'll give you the full rundown on how it runs on my TV. As of now, my Q90R has been running fine as it has been updated with eARC and some stabilization firmware, so I hope that the processor works well with the new UI and doesn't cause more problems than it should solve.

@cjcairns8628 it does. I had to manually update it, but my Q90R now has eARC as of June this year. I believe that the Q80R should have it as well. You may need to do it manually as well by going to the Samsung support site and downloading it

Caleb, while you are at CES 2025, will you compare the smaller lg c series like the 42 inxch c5 (and g series if they make a g5 at 42ish inches) to the best gaming monitors? I am mostl interested in the picture quality comparison. It seems like the smaller tvs like the c4 and company have had better picture quality due to their higher peak brightness than something like the ROG swift 32 qd-oled monitor. I'd be interested to know if any dedicated gaming monitors can match the picture quality of the lg c series or similar models from other brands because it would be nice to have the 32 on a desk but I don't want to sacrifice picture quality since I will be using the display on my desk heavily for movies as well. Being able to watch Dolby Vision content is important to me. Thanks for all of your work!

I use a C1 as my computer monitor. Purposefully sought it out this year as it has OLED Motion Pro, which makes a night and day difference in picture clarity. (Discontinued feature after 2021 models.)

I just bought the LG B4 from Costco. Excellent dark room TV. The 83'' B4 has the α9 AI Processor 4K Gen7 and up to 144Hz VRR...SAME as C4 KZbin 4K Dolby Vision 60 & 120fps Looks Amazing and my Dolby Atmos 9.2.4 soundbar shakes the house lol So I would pick the 83'' B4 over the same size C4...Saved me $1,500. Don't really need the C4 extra brightness and B4 is brighter in gaming. Now i have decide on a 75/77 size S90D, Bravia 8 or Hisense 75U75N. I wanted the 100'' Hisense but really too big for the space I have.

Hey Caleb. One thing I’d be interested in you investigating at CES if next year’s Sony and Panasonic TVs will finally get four HDMI 2.1 ports. Vincent from HDTVTest did a video a while back about the chip maker that provides chips for those companies upgrading their chips to allow all four HDMI ports to be HDMI 2.1. That could be a big deal for a lot of 2025 TVs.

I want so bad to get an 85" u8n because of the price and size. But im an oled guy and im really afraid its big step back if i change from my lg a1 65" in my lviting room, talking avout picture. But i have a samsung s90d in my bedroom and i think "get the u8n and you will have the best of both worlds". Really, the doubt is killing me.

My buddy has an S90D. It's gorgeous. And the OLED I'd get if I were in the market for one. (Tops out at 77" though this year for one with the QD-OLED panel, which is the panel you'd want to make sure you'd be getting for this model.)

I even thought in getting a s90d 77", but here in Brazil, its woled, not qdoled. Only 55" is qdoled, every other size is woled, and i didnt want to get woled, even being fantastic. So i wanted to get 85" u8n that is almost the same price of an 65" woled here. But the picture fear is stopping me.
