A while ago I was in a tv store and I was browsing through the different brands of tv. I saw the Sony tvs and noticed the picture to be very natural looking with the skin tones looking as they should be, from Bravia 3, all the way up to the Bravia 8 and 9, be it oled or led. Then I came to the Hisense tvs and immediately noticed the colours to be very saturated and unnatural looking, the picture just don’t appeal to me. It’s as if they cranked up and sugar coat some aspects of the picture to immediately appeal and catch one’s attention. Naturally I got the Bravia 7. This is just my opinion, I am sure it differs from many others. 🙏

there is a setting called Color saturation. On al lmy TVs going back 20 years, from Panasonic Plasma to Samsung LED, to Sansung QD OLED to Hisense Mini LED, I adjust color saturation for each program I am watching, since color correction is usually pretty bad on cable, youtube, Prime Video and Netflix shows.

Great video as usual Brian! I'm curious if the new Sony Bravia Projectors 8 & 9 finally have a picture quality that can be seen as comparable to the Bravia 7-9 QLED and OLED tvs since Sony has implemented and included the XR clear into the projectors for better tone-mapping. Thanks again

Happy New Year Brian. Based on this video, I give the U8N a narrow edge overall probably because I prefer the richer colors that come with a slightly dimmer screen. I do not have brand loyalty. I agree reliability is a top consideration though since I don't suffer from FOMO and tend to keep a TV for several years and don't want it to crap out after 2 or 3 years. I'd probably trust the Sony more in that regard. I've had my entry-level Samsung NU7100 for six years now with nary a hiccup.

Is it just me or is the U8N have a Much faster response time? It seemed to me the B7 had a delay everytime the image switched. Also, would be great if included things like motion, upscaling etc or cable/satellite feeds. Please please when discussing buying opinions, it would be great if you included other features like sound options, DTSx, Sony picture core, other features than just pic quality would be awesome to have a better understanding of all the tv offers. For example, does either tv have QMS, or even multi view, etc? Thanks for great video’ can’t wait for CES COVERAGE!! 🎉

While at Best Buy, I checked out the Sony X90L and the Bravia 7.The X90L looked more natural not as bright as the Bravia 7 but more natural picture the Bravia 7 to me looked too washed out some scenes and too bright maybe changing the settings would help that I know the store settings are usually set on high but for me if you’re set on buying a Sony. I slightly, barely preferred S90D at night, and much preferred U8N in the day. My viewing is 50/50, sioHisense is staying. I also could not figure out how to get the S90D to not have a slightly green hue, which bothered me both day and night. U8N, in Warm 2, pushes red slightly but in a pleasing way.

The U8N is actually a stellar mini LED and it absolutely wipes the floor with the Bravia 7 when it comes to contrast ratio, but it has one gigantic flaw: black level performance is extremely unstable. It's particularly noticeable in letterbox bars, which are constantly fluctuating between inky black and light gray. The local dimming algorithm brightens the whole image in low-light scenes to preserve shadow detail, which in turn lifts the blacks. I don't know if it's due to the fact that Hisense paired a relatively weak processor with a very high zone count, but whatever the case may be, this also affects letterbox bars. Whenever there is a low-light scene, the letterbox bars go from being inky black to gray, and this fluctuation is constant, making the TV impossible to watch in a completely dark room, at least for me. I initially thought I had a defective unit and exchanged my first panel, only to find out that the second did the same thing. Further research shows this issue being reported widely on AVS forum as well. What a shame, because otherwise, it's such a great TV. I ended up returning mine and buying a Samsung QN85D, which has vastly better black level performance despite having far fewer local dimming zones. No blooming, and letterbox bars are always inky black. This issue with the U8N isn't something that will bother the average consumer. Overall it's probably the best LED based panel I have ever demoed in many ways.
@FURognar3 күн бұрын
The Hisense does have better contrast than the Bravia 7, you can see it in scenes of color where there isn't too much brightness, but yeah, it lifts the blacks too much to try and preserve shadow detail which makes it seem less contrasty in certain scenes.
@armylrs23913 күн бұрын
@FURognar The Hisense absolutely wipes the floor with the Bravia 7 when it comes to contrast ratio. I don't remember the exact values but it's pretty close to 50% better which is a massive difference.
@realitybites85583 күн бұрын
I have had the 65" U8N for over 6 months now and have not had that issue. Letterbox bars are consistently very black with no crush or fluctuation of the gradation of the bars. The only time the bars get less black is with poor content feed quality - that's the feed though, not the set. I use filmmaker exclusively with black level at -1 and the brightness turned way down to 40 in a dark room. If the U8N is set at a very high brightness setting in any mode - it causes all kinds of washout/grey issues in the content. Pick your favorite mode and dial back the brightness and adjust everything else from there. My picture is gorgeous!
@armylrs23913 күн бұрын
@realitybites8558 It's an extremely well-documented issue. Check out the U8N sub on AVS-it's been extensively discussed there. I believe I was one of the first to suggest running it at -1, which helps somewhat, but it's still a very noticeable issue. I'm extremely familiar with this TV, as I owned it for several weeks. Another thing Hisense does with the U8N is artificially boosting highlights in SDR, similar to what Samsung does with their HDR Remastering setting. However, on the U8N, it cannot be disabled. Highlights really pop with SDR material, and surprisingly, I actually liked what they did there. It's subtle and well-mapped-for example, bright lights will look very bright and realistic but without raising the entire image like a contrast enhancer would. A bit of bias lighting makes the U8N perfectly watchable in a dark room, and I would still choose it over the Bravia 7. The difference in contrast ratio is night and day between the two.

I honestly can't see a single scene where the hisense looks better. It has this over saturated feel to it. All the scenes with colour detail completely lack colour depth and detail. It doesn't look like a bad TV but all these commenters favoring the Hisense quite frankly havn't got a clue what they are looking at. A bumble Bee isn't just one shade of orange ladies and gentleman. The real key thing to remember here as well is that this is HDR 4K content designed for demonstration purposes, imagine TV broadcast signals. Trust me, that's when the Sony will shine. Go to a store and put NFL on KZbin and put them on the same picture, you would never chose hisense. Stop coping so hard.

@paulcox24472 күн бұрын
The catch is they are made in china which means they can be made for a lot less money than TV's made in Korea or Japan. Plus TCL and Hisense are trying to break into the american market since we buy lots of TV's which means they have to have competitive pricing to get people to get them. TCL literally makes every part for their TV's in house, so that really helps them in price vs quality since they don't have to outsource parts and pay markup from other companies on them. If they were the same price as the larger brand names they wouldn't have any sales due to name value.
