I remember once i made a map to battle different units against each other, gondor soldiers beat every other swordmen in the game except black numerous, for the tower guards they beat every pike unit in the entire game so.. i know they are slow but they are not as weak as you think

Yeah it can be difficult to get Gondor Tower Guards on the field but they are one of my favorite units because they look awesome. The capes are so stylish lol

Uruk crossbowman are amazing archers. They are clunky but have a great range, deal good damage and you can improve them. They shoot quite slowly but if you have like 3 or more the enemy units just drop dead in seconds. Maybe not A but certainly not D😅

It would been great if u could let Hobbits climb on top on Ents like riding them, like Mordor archers riding Mumakil. It would be very useful coz the hobbits could protect the ents and shoot enemies while the ents are demolishing structures.

i do remember as a child when i played bfme 1, i thought it was possible to let pippin and merry ride treebeard. at least its on my mind like this. i havent seen the movies until years later so i couldnt know it. but this has been on my mind forever. and still i always try to get them mounted xD - at least in the story level

Only thing I would argue with is Uruk Crossbows. I think they are more a C. They defo aren't as strong as other options overall but I argue that they can hold their own decently enough. I agree they lose their touch in the late game in comparison to early, but like with a lot of things in this game it really depends on the faction and how the players choose to move, against the other evil factions those crossbows will rip apart any other ranged units - the Angmar Rangers so you have more armor, more HP and more range as a result vs evil. Vs the good factions they'll usually beat out the other base archer groups if they can get in range first, with numbers you can even let them just run up to make up for their lack of range. especially with buffs and then kill the other archers groups with their higher DPS despite being shot first. They'll always lose vs the elves and rangers, if we go upgraded vs upgraded though, then they start to fall apart but for a good chunk of the game Pikes + Crossbow can handle almost anything that comes at them. However Its been years upon years since I played, so I dunno but I remember them being strong haha. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!

Maybe men of the west do need rebalancing, but idk who plays men and doesn't build a marketplace after building 4-6 farms. This allows for being able to easily obtain lots of tower guard, rangers, and rohirrim. But I'd be interested to see you rate the units of the Gondor and Rohan factions in the Age of the Ring mod

I came here for Mirkwood Archers, even as kid i used to spam them 24/7. I remember how i was surprised how they can take down batalion of cavalry unit before they even have chance to touch them.

If this is against Ai I think Attack Trolls should be A tier. They destroy everything unless you run into pikes, and Ai archers don't even shoot at them lol

Gondor Knights are meant to be used as part of an army unlike the more indipendently operating Rohirrim. Together with Boromir and Eomer they are just a fantastic support unit for a relativley low cost. They will also increase the offensive capability of your army. They have become my favourite unit.

This was much better to follow for me. :) Interesting list. I also always felt that the (melee + infantry) elite units in ROTWK are overpriced. But I did not expect for you to put Crossbowmen in D tier. Generally FoD archers seem to be bad :(

the only disagreement i have is the wolves i think they should be as high as wargs at least, especially when you can boost their defense. Perfect spot would be lower than spiderlings but higher or tied to wargs

Just don't agree with the goblin archers they need to be at least C tier and spider riders A tier because the goblin archers have trample resistance and the spider riders are my fav unit because they take almost no trample slow down they can trample so many units before becoming slowed down

I agree with most of these and your arguments hold up except for a few: Why are warg riders placed with uruk-hai swordsmen in B when you said how amazing the wargs were and how expensive the uruk are? You made such a good case for Mordor catapults, why aren't they in A-tier? Also why are Angmar wolves placed in A when they can be just as cost-efficient as spiderlings and warg packs from Isengard?

Against the AI, by far the best units are attack trolls and it's not even close imo. Ai doesnt even target them and theyre devastating.

Damn, if you don't know how to use angmar, just say so bro 😂 The sorcerers are what make angmar tick, their buffs, debuffs and summons instantly give you an advantage, pluss their healing, you have be insane to call them bad. All you need is 1 sorcerer and them to use 2 spells, and the fight is over.

You should really have called this a "1v1-list". Not everybody is playing 1v1s. You see Mumaks every day in 4v4s for instance. Same with Attack-Trolls. Mines have been the deciding factor in alot of games already aswell. Towerguards in "C" is also a complete no go. If that was a "C" unit you wouldn't see it in pretty much every game.

i actually think the ents are a D tier unit. since you can summon them with a ability. as you said when well protected by archers this summon of 3 ents is enough to roll a enemy within seconds. but i cant see a reason why i would buy one actually since they are so expensive.
