I belive they were because more sucessful because the Witch King used the internal strife of the kingdoms to there advantage. Arnor was probably much weaker internally then what Gondor ever was, which allowed angmar to attack arnor with little reistance.

@@DamanHillardHelps that we haven't seen Angmar much yet compared to Mordor in both the books and the films. Such as it is, our imaginations merely think of Angmar as some sort of grim no-man's-land, and other worser things unseen.

Given the proximity of the Blue Mountains to Arnor, I like to imagine there were a few dwarvish mercenaries/volunteers who fought alongside the Arnorians and their allies. Since you already had Hobbits, Men, and Elves fighting the Witch King, you could also have some dwarves, thus having all the peoples of Middle Earth united once again against a great evil. Of course, this is only a theory as it's never stated in the text, but it's fun to believe.

I didn't think Dwarves were in the Blue Mountains until after Smaug took The Lonely Mountain.
@Halieustheendless56
@Halieustheendless56 2 ай бұрын
@@nathanwells9136 if you mean 'when Smaug took Erebor' then yes I thought that too, since they mostly abandoned their cities there after the War of Wrath and the destruction of Beleriand to go to new places such as Moria. Of course there might've been some, but I didn't think enough that it could help in battle.
@Tarathiel123
@Tarathiel123 2 ай бұрын
@@Halieustheendless56 It's highly likely, Tolkien always intended this to be a mythos so the smaller skirmishes and conflicts wouldn't always include detailed descriptions of combatants across the entire land. There seems to be accounts that some dwaves stayed in the Blue Mountains but that they didn't return in great numbers until after the destruction of Erebor, but its hard to believe there would be *nothing* in the Blue Mountains for refugees to return to. In terms of helping in battle, a single elf and a single dwarf went a long way in the Third Age in a few battles one could mention :P
@Halieustheendless56
@Halieustheendless56 2 ай бұрын
@@Tarathiel123 I see what you mean, but I wasn't particularly saying the dwarves had nothing to return to in the blue mountains. There were small accounts in the appendixes of old mines and such still in Ered Luin, but I honestly thought they were abandoned at that point. I do believe there may have been communities of dwarves rebuilding or just living in old parts of the blue mountains. They even returned to remnants of Belegost and Nogrod. Either way, yes it would be hard to imagine being nothing to return to there. And yes (reference to Gimli and Legolas etc.) even one of each went a long way in these battles.

Because the Witch King was more of an active villain than Sauron. Sauron orchestrates his plans and the sends his servants to execute on those plans. So we actively see the Witch King search for Frodo and then lead his host from Minas Morgol to attack Minas Tirith.

I first read LOTR in the late '70's, then The Silmarillion a few years later, but had only a very fractured and unclear idea of the material in this video. I guess you have to read the Appendices to LOTR very carefully to glean the history presented here, and I've never summoned the fortitude to do more than skim the appendices. Of all the videos on the Legendarium available on KZbin, this has been one of the most valuable to me, because I didn't already know most of this content. Thanks!

@Enerdhil Girls and women love Lord of the Rings, I don't see any problem there. Is this an attempt to whine about Tolkien adaptations adding women to the story? Don't be ridiculous. You can add female characters to the Angmar war too and it won't harm anything as long as the writing is good.

@@guyr3618 The Prime Video DEI policy determines what we see on screen and hear. How are they supposed to appease the feminist? Guyladriel.😞 They needed a strong, independent girl-boss, but no female did anything significant in the entire Second Age, so they created Guyladriel, the unhinged, revenge-seeking Amazonian Girl-boss. Did you notice that half of the people on horses in the cavalry charging to the Southlands were women?😞 So utterly stupid, but it is their policy.

@@guyr3618 The DEI policy demands that girls and women be on the screen 50% of the time. In Season 1, Galadriel was the star because of that policy demand.

@Enerdhil this is just ridiculous culture war BS. Galadriel getting a more prominent role in the 2nd age is an entirely reasonable change - Galadriel was a late addition to the legendarium, it makes sense that Tolkien himself would have expanded her role in the earlier ages too, if he had lived to finish the Silmarillion. And Galadriel being Amazonian is literally from Tolkien's own writing. I have plenty of problems with TROP, but the mere presence of strong female protagonists is not the issue.

For what it's worth I love seeing the the miniatures. Yet another artist interpretation bringing the lore to life. And I used to love collecting and painting them back in the 80's. Grenadier had the Middle Earth license and their figurines were one of many gateways to Tolkien.

Does anyone know what the other eight nazgul we’re doing during the lifespan of Angmar? Why werent they present at the witch kings side? Ps. Actually 1 other Nazgul was at the witch kings side during the lifespan of Angmar. Anyone that played BFME will remember that Morgomir was the witch kings right hand during that time. However that still doesnt account for the other seven Nazgul.

A couple of works in this period have speculated that other Nazgul also fought for Angmar. BFME2 obviously has Morgomir but the Strategy Battle Game has The Dwimmerlaik and The Tainted, two of the Nine serve as the Witch-King's lieutenants instead.

That's nothing that Tolkien wrote. The only Nazgûl he specifically identified were the Witch King and Khamûl the Easterling.

@istari0 Yeah, I'm aware, but it's interesting to see how various different works have shown the other unnamed Wraiths. Personally I really like some of the MESBG ones like the Dark Marshal, really cool aesthetic with the armour over the robes.

@@istari0There goes my question: who were the nazguls and where did they reign before becoming one. Tolkien identified the 5 istaris sent to middle earth at least.

That great illustration at the beginning made me wonder, how much actual awareness did Isildur have about the ring before encountering Sauron in battle? Was it happenstance alone that he'd cut it free and only then realize it's importance? Or was it something he (and presumably many/most others) knew of it specifically and perhaps try to target it?

I hope 'The Hunt for Gollum' shows more Aragorn backstory then actually hunting for Gollum. A movie about the Rohirrim(though, its already not looking good), The Hunt for Gollum and a movie about this would be a great appendix for the other trilogies

Something I always wondered about this period and these events was how much did the men and elves know about the Witch King and his association with Sauron? I thought this early in the 3rd age most everyone assumed Sauron was defeated not knowing the true fate of the One Ring. So would they have know the "Witch King" was a Nazgul and associated with Sauron or did they view him as an unknown, independent malevolent force? I ask because one would assume if they know he is the Lord of the Nazgul and is still active, that so too was Sauron in some capacity. Unless they thought they could exist separately, not knowing of the co-dependency on the One Ring?
