My 2014 Avalon has been incredibly reliable so far. It still drives like day one after 9 years 115k miles. Nothing broke other than a wheel bearing. It has also worn brilliantly. Nothing has shown abnormal wear.

I’ve found the best indicator of reliability is the price a salvage yard asks for the major components such as engines and transmissions. One site, car-part, is the best IMO. Sometimes a used engine or trans averages around 2-3K, heck anything in the K range indicates high demand and therefore less reliable. The most reliable are those the salvage yards seemingly can’t give away because there’s no demand, those hover around $300 to $600. So if you find both major items in that lower price range, you’ve usually found a dependable vehicle. Of course then there are other considerations as well such as frame rot, or insurance rates since some models have a higher history of serious injury accidents, but at least it’s a starting point.

I’ve got to disagree with you on about the Tesla. I’ve seen a lot on the side of the road needing an tow because the battery failed

I’m an ford/Lincoln man myself. I’ve noticed that the f150 with the 5.0 v8 is really reliable. Same with the Lincoln novelist with the 2.7 v6 eco.

Toyota/Lexus is still good, but KIA (Hyundai) is catching up. The new Toyota Tundra is having some quality issues. That is according to JD Powers. I love it that the Koreans are beating the Japanese at their own game. I stay by that even though I love Toyota (and Subaru). My current favorites: Hyundai Kona B-EV Toyota bz4x Subaru Solterra Lexus RZ 450 EV VW ID4
