It is around this time before the halving that I sold most, if not all of my gtx 1000 series (approximately 6-8 months ago before the may 2020 halving). We all know what happened to that one... while the gpu prices were at the lowest at the moment, the price sky rocketed to mrsp prices or more after the halving regardless of how old it was. This next halving may be different though, but I'm hoping another coin takes its place... like Kaspa :)

I may have missed it, but does your formula take into account the efficiency of the GPU itself? With electricity costs going to the moon, wouldn't it be prudent to factor that in? For instance, on Kaspa two of my RX 6600 can hash about the same as one 3070 using less power.

I think 1660 ti's would still be fairly efficient, but ofcourse you would need 2 or 3 of those to reach the hashrate of a 3070.

I think I mention it in the video but yeah the 40-series cards are amazing for mining but they are just so expensive that in this type of comparison where it's just down to price per megahash they would be dead last since they cost so much. I am curious to start doing some testing on them though....

Im torn on whether to get any 3000 series at all, or try and get discounted 4000 series next year, was really hoping for 2-250 3070's by now, but feels more and more like wishful thinking as time goes on, but hoping all this fud with gamers wanting/needing atleast 8gb vram for newer games finally gets them down more soon.

studio build lookin great! I had too many 'I wish I had done' statements last cycle. not happening this time around! F 3070Ti! loving the CMP 50HX for value performance and honestly efficiency too. 3060Ti, 3070, 6600, 6800 best pickups for me right now 40 series value is junk, and memory performance is poor outside of 4090. if you need hashrate numbers from any of those CMP cards, happy to share.

Thanks man! That's true, the CMP 50HX is extremely good value, but it's a bit harder to get a hold of and since I have no personal experience with it I left it off this list. I think next up I will start looking into making som 40-series content, although that's gonna be an expensive series of videos to make 😅

This is just silly without taking into account the power used by the card to achieve it's mining rate. People still have to pay for their electricity after all, so absolute profitability depends largely on that factor...

Well as I say in like the first few seconds of the video, I already did a very comprehensive comparison of power efficiency for all these GPUs. But since there’s no way to make a real world applicable formula that takes both power efficiency AND value for money into account fairly, since you’d have to weigh the two factors somehow, and how heavy you weigh them needs to be personal preference due to individual circumstances (ie a persons power rate and preference for hashrate vs efficiency), my thinking was that people could take the results from both of these videos and weigh the results themselves. Hope this helps :)

Biggest whales still did not chose which coin they want to focus after eth merge.. imo it's quite risky to invest in the hardware... but if it ever succeed it will be really huge profit in the future.. so not too sure if there will be mining season coming back, selling pressure too high to maintain the coin price.. yet can't say because it's not bullmarket 😔🤔

Thanks for all the work Seb. It's helpful to see this kind of stuff. The one important thing this spreadsheet leaves out is watts used. I have all the Nvidia cards on your list and my 3080's are the only cards that are NOT profitable on anything right now. That's at .12 for power. I'd never buy a 3080, but it scores very high on your list. It might be a value score in terms of buying, but it would be a waste of money for mining if it loses money 24/7. You did compare these in the other video so that helps a lot. If you added a column to the spreadsheet that included the rankings of the most efficient cards, that would make it easier to see the best options.

Yeah as you say I have a whole other video dedicated to power. It's tough to come up with a formula that both takes power efficiency and GPU price per hash into account in a fair way, because it's so individual what people prioritize based on their power price and what their mining strategy is. That's why I decided to make it into 2 separate videos and people can then use the information from both videos to make an informed decision that is right for them based on their circumstances. :)

Even Seb's other video demonstrates that. But this video make it seem like they're the best card to own. Which isn't even close to being true.

Its to do with the way you connected your psu to each other you can't connect them using a splitter or sata individually if you have move than 2, 3 or more you have to connect them in series not parallel

My Asus tuf 3070 and Nvidia fe 3070 take more power to get the same hashrates as my strix, asus ko and evga 3070's. Evga is probably the best running/most efficient.

Ok, first off thank you for your always completely detailed and thought out videos!!. Now my argument here is that all these card prices are used, most likely mining cards. The longevity is questionable with used, and at the prices of the 3070,80,80ti its not much less than a 4070, which efficiency is better than the 3080 series and pretty close to tbe 3070. Also when going over your other video comparing them all AMD dominated in everything but ergo and kaspa i believe, so im not sure how they did so terrible in this lol.
