Honestly you’re not gonna find it on a budget but the 8-25 f/4.0 PRO is something else. That focal range is so versatile for video work it’s crazy. You can engage IS 1 also and get rid of the warp. 8mm is plenty wide for that.

All of my professional go to lenses for the GH5 are the M.Zuiko Pro Series: 12-40/2.8, 40-150/2.8, 17/1.2, and the 45/1.2. Purchased all brand new, at ridiculously good discount, which is why I don’t have the 25/1.2 or the 7-14/2.8, because I have not found them at a price I am comfortable paying. I chose the 45/1.2 because it was weather sealed and the Nocticron is not… They work remarkably well with the Lumix GH5, and I am looking forward to use them with the GH5 Mark II once the GH6 comes out. (Hoping for a price drop). The lenses are tack sharp, and the AF is on point. If I miss a shot, it is due to user error not the gear. However, the main reason I got them was for video, and the manual clutch ring. The lenses just seemed more conducive for the task… …

The Olympus pro lenses are great all around. When I used the gh5 as my daily driver, the Olympus pros were my go to. They didn’t have as much character as the voightlanders, but they had AF compatibility, sharpness wide open and the manual focus clutch.
@raksh92 жыл бұрын
When the GH4 was my main camera, the Voigtlanders were my go to lenses. But when I switched to the G9, I found the LCD screen harder to discern focus, and AF was much better, so I started using Olympus Pro primes. The loss of character was well compensated by the gain in usability.

I use a 12-60mm f2.8-4 Olympus fourthirds lense on my micro four thirds cams. I have a cheap adapter which works for me. Autofocus is not working in video mode and photo mode is slow but I'm more in manual focus so this is not a problem for me. The price was around 200 euros.

If I hadn't gotten the Pana-leica 12-60 when I got my G9 I would defenitely picked up this lens. I even put up the 12-60 for sale to try and switch over, but happy with it anyways since the dual IS is killer. I did get the Oly 25mm 1.2 and absolutely love it, the CAF when shooting videos seems to be more consistent than most of my other Panasonic lenses even and I love the look that you can get from their f/1.2's.

Great video) But it's a bit annoying that you didn't mention that you can't program the function of the L-fn button if you're using a GH4 (as I understand, that's your primary camera?). It only functions as an autofocus lock (not a useful feature IMO).

Thank you for the priceless piece of advice, once again. Not in the micro 4/3 category: I have a Canon SL3, it’s an APS-C. Pretty sure that although this lens has a manual focus clutch, it’s still focus by wire, ie not mechanical. It might still be linear though. To my knowledge this is common across all Olympus lenses with a clutch.
@NigelBarros3 жыл бұрын
well, when the clutch is enabled you're definitely physically moving part of the lens, so whether it's true linear focus or not, what I've found is I can do repeatable focus pulls with this lens whereas I couldn't with any Panasonic lens.
@LaurieHallLJH3 жыл бұрын
@@NigelBarros in the end if it works, it works. Good luck with your journey into Olympus. I also have an EM1 MK2 :-)
@gabmilitao3 жыл бұрын
This lens is true mechanical (not FbW) focus, I have and the manual focus works line a charm. It is also sharper on the corners than the 12-35mm Lumix. Not to mention it is built like a tank, way more premium than the Panasonic (still a great lens tho, but the Olympus is better)
@BarefootMediaTV3 жыл бұрын
I got this for my BMPCC 4k and its crazy distorted at the wider end. I think olympus fixes that in their cameras. From what i hear the zoom can get sticky too, i bought mine used and the zoom is off. If i zoom all the way out the lens is still sticking out about an inch out of the barrel, then when i zoom to 18mm its closed, then when i zoom to 40 its sticks back out all the way.
@NigelBarros3 жыл бұрын
That's strange, the bmpcc 4k does have a slightly larger field of view than most M 4/3 cameras so maybe this lens can't cover the sensor at the wide end as well as panasonics? This lens I bought used as well and my copy works great, it is kinda annoying that it has to be at 18mm to be fully collapsed
@BarefootMediaTV3 жыл бұрын
@@NigelBarros Is the not being collapsed at 12mm normal for this lens? I assumed mine was just messed up. and i think panasonic and olympus cameras work better with their own lenses. They advertised the pansonic 12-35mm as parfocal but that was actually with help from the gh3/4/5. With the black magic i dont believe it works like a parfocal lens. Same with the distortion.
@KathyXie3 жыл бұрын
Panasonic and olympus cameras perform automatic barrel distortion correction(and a slightly crop on wide angle?) and chromatic aberration correction when using their own brand of lenses. I have the Olympus 40 150 and using it on Panasonic body I get crazy chromatic aberration on the long end.
@TheNjkdo2 жыл бұрын

Hey, I'm curious to know how the linear focus performs. I had the Olympus 17mm F1.8 and on the gh5, the manual focus was a bit bumpy and glitchy. I wonder if it would have worked better on an Olympus body. You're killing it btw. Great stuff!
@NigelBarros3 жыл бұрын
I've been able to pull focus repeatedly and accurately with this lens, never used the 17mm but this 12-40 works better than any focus by wire lens from panasonic
@datalaforge3 жыл бұрын

yeah Olympus lenses will work on Panasonic bodies, and vice versa
@joestrahl69803 жыл бұрын
However, most Panasonic lenses work better on Panasonic bodies and most Olympus lenses work better on Olympus bodies. For example the auto focus can be slightly snappier using P lenses on P body and Olympus lenses on O body. Not a deal breaker however.
