Number 4, there's a similar concept used in the shaft industry called "machine key". The key sits in a slot along the shaft (held in place by a screw), and the key is what provides torque to the gear. The gear has a keyhole for the machine key on the shaft. These are effective because machine keys are the weak point, making repair easy, able to reuse the gear and shaft. (But generally the machine key is a weaker (less hardness) metal than the shaft and gear, so technically the key would not be the weak point in a 3D print since the materials are the same.)

when i print a gear and attach it to the shaft, the gear ends up with a wobble. i can't figure out what's causing it, the shaft seems to be perfectly straight and the hole inside the gear is a tight fit.

thanks. bolt through the shaft is not for really heavy loads. bolt will be cut after some (more or less) time, I tested :-) one of the best known methods (really used in heavy tractors wheel to shaft connection) is to combine: coupling (method 1 at video) with small groove on it + small groove on the shaft (something like method 2, but groove) + small "insert" which fits both grooves on shaft and coupling - really nice and strong thing! this picture shows what I described: 2.bp.blogspot.com/-NXKE7WAzo_E/VPieCBT5LnI/AAAAAAAAAAc/3YME9oqILRw/s1600/Keyway-lovejoy.jpg
