Thanks for another great video! Apologies if someone already mentioned this elsewhere - China markers aren’t, strictly speaking, an art supply - they literally are designed to write directly on fine china and dishes (and similarly textured items) without doing any damage. Antique dealers use them to write prices and other info directly on a piece. I use a black one to label the plastic lids I use to store and freeze foods in mason jars. So when judging its performance as an art supply, it might deserve a little extra leeway 😉 To expose the core, pull the little string until it lifts up the paper wrap and then just unwrap the paper as needed. It’s not designed to have a “point” but you can expose a fair amount of core without breaking it. Fascinating to see one used in this context - thanks again for the great video!

I love mine for different reasons, my most opaque are Holbein soft Derwent drawing and there is an opaque pastel pencil being Stabilo and General white, my wax based blender is Caran De’ache Luminance and I personally use Polychromos as a blender but not for opacity. Those are my favs before watching your testing. I had a question if you had tried the Derwent white graphitint because I heard it was good. I so wish my questions would be seen. I have left five over a time period but removed them when the 3rd video was made. I am a landscape, portrait artist in watercolor, pastel, colored pencil and charcoal & graphite so have learned many things from my own mistakes.

Thank you for this! Last summer I taught grade school students to draw fun things. I bought colored pencil sets and we colored on white construction paper. Then we drew on black paper and needed white pencils as they hadn't come in the sets. I ran down to my art supply store and they had the Prismacolor and the two Derwents. I'm so glad to see that these scored the highest and will definitely use them again this summer. If I can order them ahead I will just get the Derwents because the Prismacolors were too soft and always breaking or being sharpened too much. The Derwents seemed to hold up better, especially the Chinese White, to the demands of the elementary age kids.

Love watching your best of videos! Thank you! That Phano white is actually a grease pencil. It's designed to write on shiny slick surfaces like glass, plastic, and butcher paper. It's awesome! Hard to get off though if you get it on something!

Regarding the white tinting, i just wanted to share this, i made a swatch on black paper with the nyoni 120 pencils, and after, burnished the derwent chinese white. It wasn't a big deal over the light colours, but over the dark ones, yellows,oranges and reds, a whole new palette popped up to be used on dark paper. Please someone try this on a video in a drawing, it might be of great help for those who have buget friendly sets.

China markers are formulated to be more like a crayon rather than a colored pencil we use them to mark metal at the factory I work at. You are supposed to pull the string down to cut into the paper and peel the paper away with your fingers.

@@blackbird7005 what's plastic? The wrapping on a Chinagraph pencil? If they wrap it in plastic that's new to me as the ones I've always used for the 40 years have been wrapped in paper (just like it says in the Wikipedia page). If they've started wrapping them in plastic, that wasn't a good move environmentally 🤣

I am curious your feelings on the recent change with Prismacolor Colored Pencils no longer being available in open stock. I am wondering how well Prismacolor will last due to this change. I recently purchased what I thought was a full set of 150 Prismacolor Colored Pencils from Amazon and discovered the box did not include the two discontinued colors, NOR did it have the replacement colors. They put an extra white in the box and a color blender. So disappointing. I may contact the company about this but it was really an advertising problem with Amazon because the box they sent me was not the box they had in their ad description. I have contacted Amazon about this and waiting to see their response.

I'll be getting the Prismacolor Premier white, the Derwent Coloursoft ($2.99/ea), and the Cretacolor MegaColor($2.79/ea) allnfor the price of the one Derwent Drawing pencil instead.

I would have loved to see the real best pencils because we here in South Africa do not have the same openstock pencils like you do and some of your more affordable pencils are actually our most expensive pencils over here. So would have loved to see the outcome if price and availability (openstock) wasn't part of the test.

Connie…I was thinking the same thing, that’s why I did the test the way I did and posted all the results on our blog. An alternative, if you don't need "small" details, is the Neocolor I white, or Posca Pastel white. Also the Stabilo Original white is great too. And lately, I was surprised by the white in a cheap Steadtler set, and I'm using it now for sketching on black paper. So many whites.... Though I usually use my White Pitt Pen on top of everything for white details.

Hi, Jennifer…. I hope you don’t think this is a stupid question but what is the difference between blending, shading, and tinting?
@ColoringBliss3 жыл бұрын
Not a dumb question at all!!! They are all different and yet…used together and in so many combinations. I’m in the middle of filming the last part of the white colored pencil workshop series and I keep discussing how these words are similar but oh so different. Throw in more ideas like burnishing and polishing and softening. Wow! So much to learn and it’s hard to explain in this comment. The easy one…tinting…tint is a color plus white. Blending typically refers to bringing more than one color together in a smooth transition and shading usually means adding a shadow to convey light source and shape. But…like all art terms, it is not that simple 🤪. Have fun!

I have a couple sets of ancient (before they were sold to another company!) Prismacolors that still have many of the original pencils intact. But not white, I have no idea how many white Prismacolors I've gone through over the years. Regardless of what pencils I'm using to draw with, I have a use for the Prismacolor white. Can't wait to see you color something with all white pencils!

Hi people. Could someone answer me this!!!! What can we do to prevent the writing on the colored pencils to fade away. I have some Prismacolors that I can't see the name or number cause is all faded. Some still have a long life ahead of them, so I taped a little paper with the number on it so I'll know which one Im using. But what can I do to prevent the rest from fading?!... This has happened with my Prismacolors, and my Delis. Anyone has any ideas?! Maybe a little clear nail barnish?! Or would that ruin the wood?! Help please.

💜💜💜tfs💜💜💜 I hope no one puts rude comments here, is the Arteza white different to the Arteza sketch in white? Because you can get those in a 12 pack (so 12 of just white pencils, which if you use white a lot as I do, is worth it, I know that isn't quite open stock, but better than nothing at all). I love my Stabilo all pencils, I get the black in bulk for my journals and I buy the whites as they're amazing to draw lines for journals then just wipe them off again with a damp cloth! LOL... Why does Arteza always get a bad rap? I love the company and many of their products. They are an excellent value in my opinion and my multiple experiences with their customer service has more than exceeded my expectations to the point where I would say I have never had a better customer service experience with ANY company in ANY industry. You can buy replacements pencils from them btw...$5.99 for a pack of three which I think is plenty reasonable when considering the high cost of offering open stock items. Further, I'm not sure that entering the China marker, aka grease pencil into a colored pencil contest was fair. Why not a pastel pencil then? Or even a Posca pen? What was your criteria for qualifying? Btw, just slowly but firmly pull the string and it will cut the paper and reveal the core. They were never intended to have a "sharp" point Edit: I'm sorry, where are my manners? I shouldn't just complain. Overall this was an excellent video and an incredibly extensive and thorough review which I greatly appreciate. I never miss one of your videos and feel that membership to your website is an unparalleled value given the amount of access to your legacy of content!
