Michelin Wipers were excellent but haven't been able to find the 1.5 million wipe guarantee blade and have recently seen the MICHELIN-STEALTH-Ultra Hybrid. i wonder what can be done to prolong the blades?
@showwhite732027 күн бұрын
Great review. The following are some other features you might want to test in the future. 1. Longevity. Good rubber wipers are supposed to last a year, but silicone wipers are supposed to last up to 5 years. So the investment in silicone wipers are more than worth it if they only cost 50-100% more. 2. Coating. The silicone wipers like the PIAA come with a coating you apply on the wipers and windshield. This makes a huge difference in performance. I wonder if the coating can also be used with rubber wipers. If so, are they equally effective. I'm guessing it would since the coating should work just as well with rubber unless it breaks down the rubber chemically.

I bought an expensive set of Bosch Icon wipers and they squeaked very loudly from the 2nd week. I have a 25 year old Toyota truck so I'm hesitant to spend a lot more money on my next blades. The Bosch were almost $50! Help! I live in the PNW so it rains 9 months of the year...
@nobodyisprfct21 күн бұрын
@ I think my best wipers were the Michelin 10 million wipes wiper blades. I think also you maybe be able to stop the squeaking noises by cleaning the blades or softening them by wiping WD-40 on them. There are also some people who say squeaking can occur if the wiper arm isn’t tight enough.

@@Mr.Beastforpresident Right, and for the record, Consumer Reports is NOT unbiased even though they like to boast how they take no sponsors/advertisers. I watched one of their (C.R.) videos awhile back, and though they have a 'laboratory' that they work out of, I noticed right away that the test method they were using was devised by someone who had no clue as to what a proper test set up should be for the product that they were testing and how it is actually used (and what it is used for) in the real world. Any results would be bogus but advertised as if it were definitive.

The biggest thing I discovered when it comes to wiper blades is that keeping a rag in the car is critical. Running the rag down the wiper blades before driving in the rain significantly improves their performance by getting rid the film of gunk and small particles that build up under them.

As much as I appreciate this channel, I find this testing method quite lazy. Two years on a roof doesn’t simulate regular use. Having purchased and used these wipers, he’s missing the meat of this test for most people: real world highway downpours and months of regular use with the car’s windshield washer nozzles. I went through a couple sets of Costco discounted Bosch Icons; they began skipping at 1 month and fell apart after 6 (not to mention the tremendous aero drag their pronounced rib produces at speed, significantly slowing the downstroke and speeding the upstroke.) Trico Onyx and RainX had the same awful aero drag issue but to a lesser extent, were quieter with less streaking, had better contouring, and served well for 1 year. RainX wipers were better probably because I didn’t need to use them as much in rain due to the hydrophobic film they leave on the windshield. PIAA with metal frames have replaceable blade inserts that I’ve replaced once over nearly 3 years, they contour better to my windshield and wear better despite all the tiny rock chips in my windshield, they leave a hydrophobic coating on the windshield that’s similar to RainX’s, and they don’t suffer from highway aero drag. PIAA for the win. Second place goes to OE (Subaru) wipers. There, you got a better test and real consumer feedback.

It’s strange, I loved my Bosch blades (and most Bosch stuff) but I’ve experienced their wiper drying out and cracking on several cars - maybe after 1-2 years? I started using PIAA silicone blades back in ~2014 and I’m still on the same set on one car, working fine. The feeling of new wiper blades is a great one and I remember being very impressed by Bosch, they blew away the competition. RainX was close. I guess I just didn’t experience longevity compared to when I switched to PIAA. Plus I can buy wiper replacements themselves and not have to throw away the whole wiper body like Bosch. Writing this here via dialectic method. Not trying to prove you wrong. In fact would be happy to switch back to Bosch if my memory was flawed. Not having good wipers when you need them is rough

Thanks for your feedback, have you tried the 100% Silicone blades now put out by several brands? I’m a big fan of Ac Delco parts as well. Most of the time Ac Delco parts are better than the competition. In fact there’s an Ac Delco channel that shows the quality difference on their parts versus Autozone, Orielly the aftermarket etc... for instance: Fuel Pumps, Batteries etc... I know with certainty their pulleys and alternators are quality compare to the competition. My 2008 GMC has 2500 had 541,000+ miles 13,000+ engine hours on the Original Alternator! Replacing the battery 4 times over that time not to overwork/overheat the alternator to keep charging a weak battery.

I have been purchasing Michelin wiper blades for years, I am 64. Based on my experience after using them on various vehicles, both cars and trucks, I will stay with them. I recently thought I'd give a set of Rain-X "beam style" wipers a try on my wife's TrailBlazer. They are not worth the money spent. As it sweeps across to the left (driver's side) it leaves a large patch of untouched windshield in the line of sight at the top third of the blade. The same occurs on the passenger blade. It does not contact the windshield on the return to the right in the same spots leaving a mass of water on the windshield. Luckily I use Rain-X in my washer reservoir so it helps. I tried swapping them side to side and it doesn't help. I will be grabbing some Michelins on my next trip to the store.

Just got a chance to watch this testing session, as always, great testing. I would like to add that in my experience, in an area that sees little rain fall compared to other parts of the nation, the issue with wiper blade life and efficacy has little to do with whether or not a wiper blade makes noise or it's prolonged exposure to UV. The issue I see is with long periods of time between use, the blade edge deforms when in the parked position. The blade parks after a downward sweep leaving the edge of the blade bent upward from center, if the blade remains in this position for an extended amount of time, it tends to form itself to that position. The effect of this deformation results in the blade edge not being able to pivot back the other way during an upward sweep causing the blade to skip badly, with poor wipe quality and a lot of noise. The wipe quality of a deformed blade on a downward stroke will still be ok since the blade edge is deformed to the proper angle for a downward sweep but still not near as good as when the blade is new or even close to new. Just wanted to add this in with the understanding that the type of testing needed to see which brand would resist this deformation the best, would be quite lengthy. Thanks for all the time you put into these videos, they have helped me make many choices in products I use on a day to day basis!

I agree 1,000 %. A better rubber compound needs to be developed that DOESN'T HAVE A "MEMORY" ! Also, there should be a solution made available that can be wiped on periodically that will continue to protect the rubber. Wiper blades are GROSSLY OVERPRICED !!!
@Hjerte_Verke2 жыл бұрын
There used to be wipers designed to "park" themselves off of the windshield. Some older 70s and 80s (maybe newer) GM cars had this feature where when you turned them off, the wiper arm went down til the wipers and arms were parallel to the ground and at the same the wiper arm rode over, for lack of better term, a wedge or ramp that brought the wiper out of contact with the glass. This feature and the fact that there were hidden wipers probably did a lot for wiper blade longevity. By hidden wipers, that means the wipers were mounted under the rear extension of the hood that came over the base of the windshield. When you activated the wipers, the blades moved up a few inches off the ramps and operated from there so the wipers weren't constantly going over the ramp/wedge. These were an awesome, perhaps "Deluxe" feature on certain cars....
@workonitm82 жыл бұрын
@@Hjerte_Verke I remember those. I think there might have been a wind noise problem from the blades fluttering in the air stream since they were "floating". I've thought about making something like that but without the low, "park" position it isn't feasible.

Thanks Project Farm for all your awesome videos. I have been frustrated with wiper blades having to replace them every six months- year. So I also did a bunch of research and checked out a bunch of car and truck forums. What I found out is a lot of people that are into upgrading and fixing up their rigs raved about PIAA wiper blades and how much better silicone is than rubber some said they have lasted for 8 years and are still going good. So I bought a pair on 6/10/19 with 131,324 miles and they work awesome like the day I bought them they are still going strong 3 years later 6/5/22 151,052 miles that's worth every penny to me!! I purchased the super silicone bridge style blades the beams/ I beam style look like a weaker design and have not performed well on my company rig. Also you can buy replacement inserts that are cheaper , but no need so far these are awesome. I have since added them on my two other rigs so far they are awesome no way I am ever buying anything else. Also I have a company rig that has to be serviced by a jiffy lube I have to replace them every year if not sooner they often install the beam style which has all sorts of issues it doesn't apply the pressure across the blade like the bridge style does. I don't usually comment on here but when I find a product like the PIAA I have to say something. Wiper blades are a big business just look at your big box auto store they don't sell PIAA they only sell rubber blades or maybe a semi silicone they want repeat business no thanks. PIAA is all I will every use. Hope this helps someone out thanks.

If you use 100% dirt cheap silicon blades, it will last you for ever but you will get noise especially when there is not much water to lubricate it. But it will be clean and work forever. If you use a silicone/rubber blend, it will not be as squicky if at all (depending on the blend) but it will also outlast any rubber blade by several years (depending on the blend). Brand does not matter guys, BLEND does. Its all about composition, not UV coating or anything else they throw at you.

@@unnainconnu9098 That is an issue with us in the SW. It rains about 8 inches a year here and the dust and grit on the windshield is significant. And the problem with the angle of the blade getting set in the park position.

Hello PF, Great video! In my humble opinion having good wipers is important but nothing beats having a clean window shield and prepped with rainX. I don’t even use the wipers sometimes, specially at highway speeds. God Bless!

Been using RainX for years. Just started using the RainX blades as well. Makes a great combination in my opinion. No squeaks at all and most of the time you don't need the wipers.

Are you using the 2 in 1 rain x glass cleaner? Or the (forgot proper name) pure rain x anti water lol. Right now I’m trying the 2 in 1 it cleans the windows very good but not sure how well it will bead off water like the original. You’re right about not needing to use the wipers I was amazed lol.

I almost always default to RainX brand wipers. They're always available at Advance Auto, and they seem to perform admirably for me. Great video as always!

These are my second choice when I can't get the Bosch Icon's and I need to get new wipers.

Project channels videos have become a staple in my videos that I consistently search for and watch all the way thru. I have learned so much about how to test products and really enjoy and appreciate the time, money and effort that you put into each video. Thank you Project Farm for the great job you do.

Your review was on another level, thank you. I have been using the same Piaa wipers for 2 years now and I have to say... because of the silicone film they leave on the glass, they are the best wipers that I hardly have to use. The film puts a barrier on the glass that works like RainX water repellant. Your review was missing the fact that the more you use silicone blades, the better the glass is coated. Like I said, 2 years 55,000 miles, ill never use anything but these silicone Piaa blades on any vehicle I drive.

I love my PIAA wipers. As long as you wipe the debris collected from normal use every time you wash your car, they work great. I’ve had the same pair for almost 3 years.

I agree I use PIAA wipers on all my cars. They are quiet, wipe very well and last a long time. I've had some on one of my cars for 6 years now

Ditto on PIAA. I have had the old style silicones on for about 2 years now. When mine ever do wear out, I will be trying the flex blade version of a silicone wiper.
@jmiller181902 жыл бұрын
I got PIAA silicone on my car like 8-9 years ago and they still work like new. The car is garage kept however, and the last 4 years I maybe put 2-3K miles on a year. But the RainX like coating the silicone leaves behind makes it by far the easiest to see during rain. On my company cars the factory wipers last maybe 6 months before I replace them with PIAA's.
