Bruce Lee used a modified version of it because of a senior fellow student of his who trained him under Ip Man , who was defeating all the Choy Li Fut fighters in the famous roof top matches in Hong Kong using Wing Chun , Bruce Lee witnessed it's effectiveness , he also used it against boxers in actual sport matches .

When people criticize other systems it makes me wonder how deeply they researched them before making their comments also , I question the reasoning system of these critics because if a particular group is using and developing their martial art for hundreds of years there is probably a good reason for it .

Rey Trevino They don't. Martial arts is like religion in a big way. Just like when religions say to other religions "my God is better than your God" or "your God is false". People often forget that martial arts was not just for self defense. It was for discipline, fitness and spirituality. Wing Chun isn't for everybody but then again that can be said of any martial art. It's the practitioners passion and application that make it work

Yeah, you don't simply shrug off a body shot from Mike Tyson. I mean Professional Heavyweight champions and contenders have been crumpled by that punch. I get that it's a movie, and he's not playing himself, but it's hard to look at that and not think, "Mike Tyson would WRECK this dude's shit completely." Even at his age.

I'm sorry, I'm gonna call a spade a spade. I like The Grandmaster as a movie that just happens to revolve around martial arts. As a wing chun movie, it sucked a bit. It's definitely worth the awards it won, cinematically speaking, but speaking strictly from a wing chun exhibitionist perspective, it was really rough. Tony's centerline is almost non-existent and he breaks form far more than Donnie did (which proved difficult for Donnie and frustrated Ip Chun at time during the filming of Ip Man in 2008)

If you were to watch them in a loose, LOOSE chronological order it would be: 1) The Legend Is Born: Ip Man (Dennis To) 2010 2) Ip Man (Donnie Yen) 2008 3) Ip Man 2 (Donnie Yen) 2010 4) Ip Man 3 (Donnie Yen) 2015 5) The Grandmaster (Tony Leung) 2013 6) Ip Man: The Final Fight (Anthony Wong) 2013 I separated them because they all kind of tell the same "general" story but do not directly connect to one another (except for the Ip Series from Donnie, obviously) Personally I'd watch The Legend Is Born, Ip Man 1,2, and 3, and then watch Ip Man: The Final Fight for a very full and entertaining view into the youth, prime, and elder status of Man Final Fight holds a special place because it's more "realistic" and ends in a way that ties up the journey very nicely with the final recorded footage of Ip Man, filmed by his son Ip Chun. I'd watch The Grandmaster either before or after you watch the others cuz Tony's Ip Man is just garbage.
