Great to see you using that hand some wrap free! I love my sandstrum safety cap shield respirator. Very similar to yours, I like your filter setup better. Great having the filter at your waist behind you, less dust but bad if you pass wind! LOL! Stay safe and have a productive 2024 mate. I have an old friend in Queensland.

Life has been so good. Have three students that wanted to learn our craft. It has been amazing working with new turners and talking through our cuts and how they work. I didn’t realize how much our muscle memory has developed and we automatically do it. It has been a great exercise rethinking why we do what we do came just in time before the high school classes started. Keep rehabbing and get healthy soon

I turn outside and I run the same process usually. Fan blowing into the direction of woods for turning and sanding. Respirator on at all times with a shield and safety glasses, as well as a mechanic shirt (I use it as a smock). Small electric leaf blower to blow shavings/dust into the woods. Blow myself off before returning to garage, then shop vac my closes, pants/boots. Wash arms and face, neck after turning. I have asthma and even with a smock some dust ends up on my arms and can cause some flare up. Which is the silver lining, I know when I didn't dust off 100%
@KerryCorney

I have looked at a second lathe to place outside under the log shelter I am about to build. It would definitely help with the cleanup. Thanks for sharing your process, Tim. At first, it seems like a lot to do, but once you’re in the swing of it, things become a lot easier. Cheers, Kezza

@@KerryCorney Sure thing. It's really a way for me to use having a little bit of land and lower the price of admission into the craft. It's not very viable for -5 -10 degree weather we have right now though. When the piggy bank has enough cash I'll re-do our tool shed into a small shop with a little heat and dust extraction/collection.

Great video and information Kerry. Glad to hear the "Whip" is back, I've missed that sound as it always makes me smile. I have/use everything you mention except the 3M respiratory but I do always wear a respirator. The dust in my garage is almost nil which is a bonus because my garage is attached to the house and until i upgraded everything I was bringing in some debris....Take care and stay safe my friend.

So glad to see you without a brace on your finger! The content of this video hits REALLY close to home for me because I’ve been slacking on a lot of it. I have a respirator but don’t wear it often enough. I do wear a face shield and am saving up for a dust collector. Take care, Stuart
@KerryCorney
@KerryCorney Жыл бұрын
Cheers, Stuart. I believe we can all strive to do a bit better. Honestly, I was quite lax when I first started. However, now that I turn almost every day, I've become much more conscious of all the risks involved. It's an expensive craft, and it takes time to acquire everything. But acknowledging that you need to improve is always better than assuming everything is already perfect. I hope that makes sense, brother. Cheers, mate.

Good for you bud. I'm glad to see that you're still at the grind. And seem to be still in such good spirits. Great to see ya using that hand. Also the safety side of the craft that we love so much. Very important! Unfortunately it takes an accident to happen to some before they realize how important it actually is. So what I'm getting at is thank you for sharing such valuable topic. Keep up the good work and spirit. Still love to watch all your vids! Enjoy bud.

@@KerryCorney I feel like I need to say. After rereading what I wrote. You are very safety minded. You always show using your safety gear. Sometimes things just happen. I don't want you to feel like I'm saying something about you. I'm saying in general. As a machinist by trade. The safety side is the hardest to convince people of. So I've seen/had more then my fair share of the bad. And it translates rite over to woodturning.
