I've been using Siteground for more than two years and I completely disagree with what you said about SIteground. It's not only me but if you look at a lot of other youtube creators more recommend Siteground rather than tell users to avoid Siteground because Siteground is literally one of the fastest hosting for the price right now. Also, 90% of the KZbinr's who recommend Bluehost is because they offer generous affiliate payouts. So if you are reviewing the website and having affiliate links it reduces your credibility. But I did enjoy your review. Good job overall.
@Craylor4 жыл бұрын
I appreciate your feedback. I’m glad you enjoy your experience with SiteGround. My video was based on my personal experience, and siteground just didn’t impress me. They have about an equal payout with Bluehost, and I’m part of both affiliate programs, but I still feel that Hostinger or Dreamhost might be a better option based on my experience. With that being said, that’s just my opinion, and I’m sure there are many happy SiteGround users.
@age_of_reason2 жыл бұрын
I was wondering the same thing. Siteground is #1 after watching a few days worth of reviews by other KZbinrs. I have my domain with namecheap and was thinking of going with their easyWP Hosting but no one even considers namecheap in WP Hosting reviews. I just need a simple website for my construction business. I tried Wix but I don't like their website builder and don't want to be stuck with them. WP is the way to go it seems.

@Craylor4 жыл бұрын
Considering my rocky mixed experience with Hostinger since this video, I would not consider them #1. I see Hostinger as a budget host, but definitely not the top. I would rank Cloudways, WP Engine, and Flywheel towards the top strictly based on quality. I feel that Dreamhost and Namecheap are better budget options over Hostinger.
@avviano3 жыл бұрын
Siteground recently introduced two-way-authentification with an evil twist for webdesigners: Even when clients deactivate it, it still stays active and also has a geo-lock, which in essence makes it impossible for web deisgners to do their job. Speaking to Siteground, they don't seem to understand the issue or simply don't care. I had to switch to other hosting companies as a result. It's a real pity, but Siteground is not an option anymore.
@kaylaallen25154 жыл бұрын
Your videos are super helpful and very informative! I do have a question though, what would you recommend if your website allows users to upload images to your site? I’ve read that the most important thing is you find a host that supports upgrades but I’m not really sure where to even start because I’m not sure how much space is enough space for many users uploading images at a constant rate.
@Craylor4 жыл бұрын
Hi Kayla, Your hosting needs will depend on a lot of scenarios, but you are correct that you should pick a web host that supports disk storage upgrades. Will your users be updating high quality pictures frequently? (Like Unsplash or Instagram) - if so, I would look at a dedicated storage solution like Amazon S3 or Azure Blob storage. That would be the most flexible solution because it is infinitely "expandable" and can host as many files as you need - they just bill based on the GB you use each month. You will still need "regular" web hosting, and this would be "special" web hosting just for the images. You might need a developer to help you implement it with your website solution. If that all seems like way overkill for what you're doing, you will be fine starting out with any of these web hosts! You know your website/company much more than I do, so don't let the details of web hosting overwhelm you. Sometimes you just have to start somewhere and learn/hire someone who can help as you expand. I hope that makes sense!

I'm very new at this, and I had read that it was better not to register your domain with your web host. This gives your more flexibility or something. Any opinion on that?
@Craylor5 жыл бұрын
I do prefer to register a domain name with a dedicated domain registrar (such as Namecheap, Dynadot, Porkbun, etc). The main benefit is that you don't have to deal with the pain of transferring the domain later on. If you purchase it from a web host like HostGator, if you decide to switch web hosts and leave HostGator, you will have to transfer that domain out in order to keep it. Ideally, your domains will be with a dedicated domain registrar, and you just point the nameservers to whatever host you choose.

I had some negative experience signing up with namecheap. Sign up online was not that bad then I get some contradicting email instructions. I got on live chat to make sure that I did all I needed to do to finalize the domain name purchase. A week later they called me asking for the credit card number I used. When I said I didn't have the number with me, they locked my account and emailed me saying if I didn't respond they will cancel my order. There were some language barrier on live chat as well. That was just buying a domain name. I cannot imagine what kind of trouble ahead for hosting. Good luck.

@@Craylor This comparison is for 2 of the best WordPress hosting services available today, but they are entirely different. The main difference is the control panel that you use to configure your hosting and having dedicated resources. Siteground uses cPanel where Cloudways has its own custom build control panel. So the benefit of cPanel with Siteground is that you can have email accounts on the service, a file manager, DNS management and much more. But the downside is that cPanel 100% slows your hosting down, it's just a fact. This is where Cloudways shines because you get dedicated resources with an easy to use control panel that is not cPanel. But with that, you don't get some conveniences like hosting email, a file manager, DNS manager, etc. Siteground and all other WordPress shared hosting will never be as fast as Cloudways. With regards to support, Siteground wins in that department, they have exceptional support. Cloudways support is good, but not exceptional. So it all really depends on your priorities and what matters most to you.

Hi Andrew, I absolutely 100% agree. In fact, I have "cut ties" with Hostinger for the most part. I noticed a sharp decline in service since this video, and they've been inconsistent to where I am shy to recommend them anymore. I now recommend DreamHost or Namecheap for starter hosting.

I followed your advice. I bought my domain on namecheap. Now I am looking at web hosting. I saw one of your videos that said that be wary of squarespace as you can't transfer your webpage off off their platform?
@Craylor5 жыл бұрын
So sorry for the late reply! Squarespace is a website platform just like WordPress or any other option. The difference with Squarespace is that they forcefully host it for you, meaning both the web hosting itself and the website platform is through them. If you don't like Squarespace and want a different platform, you will need to find a web host to use WordPress or move to another in-house platform like Wix. Long story short, it's not that you can't transfer your site away from Squarespace, it's that Squarespace is a proprietary platform and you have to know what you're getting into.
@xorbodude5 жыл бұрын
@@Craylor so if you have a nicely designed website on squarespace the actual design can be transferred off squarespace?
@Craylor5 жыл бұрын
@@xorbodude Nope. Squarespace is a proprietary platform, and you can't buy hosting but use Squarespace elsewhere. The web hosting and web designer are both through their own website. If you wanted to leave Squarespace, you would need to design a brand new site using a different builder. If you used an open-source platform like WordPress, you have the power to host it at whatever company you choose and move it around anywhere.

Thanks for the comprehensive reviews! I'm curious as to why you didn't include GoDaddy in the reviews. Although I've been with them for more than 10 years, I'm not thrilled with their up-sell tactics, but that's nothing new and often found with other companies. What's important to me is if I need help at 3am, I know I can call GoDaddy through their phone number (saved on my phone) and talk with a perfectly-English-speaking support rep in the US. I've never had a problem with their support or even when my questions were elementary. Fortunately, it's rare that I have to do that, but I've been burned in the past with "24/7 email tech support" from another company.

@Craylor4 жыл бұрын
I personally prefer to pick the most "best company for the job" instead of using one company for both for the sake of convenience, but I always prefer quality over convenience. I have set up some web design clients with Namecheap for both domains and hosting so it's simple for them to renew, but I personally use Namecheap for domains and Cloudways for hosting because that works best for my setup. If you just want to secure a domain name, you can buy it at any domain registrar and let it sit until you're ready to connect it to hosting. It won't hurt just sitting around.

Amazon Web Services is one of the best and most popular cloud platforms out there. If you require serious customizability and are a server administrator looking for fully scalable and modular hosting, a platform like AWS is for you. Shopify is a proprietary hosted e-commerce platform. They provide the software solution for your online store, and since it's proprietary, they host it for you and include it in the price. You *do not* need web hosting to use Shopify, and you cannot "host" a Shopify site on a web host.

Hi Patricia, I must admit, I'm not the most knowledgable on Canva's website templates. I did some looking, and I believe they do not let you download the design as a website file and upload it to another host. However, it doesn't seem like you can pay to connect your domain name, so I think it would be stuck as a canva.com URL. In this case, you could either redirect yourdomain.com to the Canva URL and get a refund from Bluehost, or you will need to explore another website solution - Squarespace, Wix, WordPress, etc.

I have a domain name and I’m looking for a webpage to advertise my business would I have to purchase another domain name and if not how can use my domain name I already have 🤔
Hey Craylor, I'm Interested in starting a Affiliate Marketing online business, Do You Think Wordpress would be a Good Platform for beginners? Also What *Domain name, Business email & Web Hosting Provider(s) do you recommend to run Wordpress Efficiently? (When your on a Budget)* Also any RECOMMENDATION YOU HAVE for *extra Security that's Necessary with domain & Hosting if any?* I'm Thinking about *Hostinger* for my hosting, still researching who HAS the best domain name plan(s) and features. Thanks!!

Great question! WordPress is great if you're on a budget, just keep in mind that it has a learning curve. You can figure it out if you're decently tech savvy, but it's not as easy or elegant as Squarespace. If you wanted to keep it simple, you could stick to Namecheap for your domain, email hosting, and web hosting. I'm not recommending Hostinger as the best overall option anymore (see my updated video). As far as security, make sure you install the WordFence plugin if you go with WordPress (I have a video on this), and I'd recommend using Cloudflare as well (I also have a video on this). I hope that helps!

What about Namecheap's shared hosting with WP? Is it a good choice for bloggers and one pagers?
@Craylor4 жыл бұрын
Namecheap's shared hosting is a good choice for running WordPress on a budget. I like their Stellar Plus plan because they offer automated daily backups. Namecheap shared hosting and Dreamhost are currently my preferred option for budget hosting.

This is great info, thanks for sharing, much appreciated. The only question I got is regarding email size.. I was looking to register a brand but, it is my first time and, I am unsure of how much storage I will need from a email service. the goal is drop shipping.
@Craylor4 жыл бұрын
It depends on how you use your email service and if you're good about clearing out your inbox or not. I have 3GB storage on my email and have been fine for a few years, but I'll eventually outgrow it. I'd say 3-5GB is good to start, but make sure you're prepared to jump to a larger plan or switch to ad different email host if your requirements grow.

@Michael1944 жыл бұрын
@@Craylor I got them recommended through a comparison website which does have a bias I think so I was pleasantly surprised when I actually talked to them. The website already offers a 70% discount code however through the code "HAHOT75" you get a 75% discount. I don't think it's a real discount like many of those other websites but what they've said thus far is that they are slightly more expensive than bluehost but in return for that offer a more direct, better service which I did find to be true since they answered all of my questions related to different plans in thorough detail too. I didn't feel like they actually tried to rip me off with products, in fact they actually recommended me to buy their cheapest package. It can be bought on a month to month basis as well and you can also change the plans midway if you want to. Maybe they would give you a trial for reviewing. I really like your videos by the way! They're very informative and helpful.

So extremely helpful didnt know bluehost offers month to month. I have been paying yearly for 3 years and dont use the website bc wordpress was too hard to learn to code and use. Should I cancel it and start one of the cheaper sites? Is there a way to switch amongst sites?
@Craylor4 жыл бұрын
You can migrate your hosting account to most hosts for free - they will tell you if they are able to do a free transfer or not. If your Bluehost account expires soon, you could try Namecheap, Dreamhost, or Hostinger if you want a more budget friendly option.

Namecheap's customer support is alright. I feel like it's deteriorated since I released this video. They offer 24/7 live chat, but the response time is slipping. Overall, I think it's still a good option if you're on a budget.

Another great vid. Building a new simple website, will need to use a template to design my site so which hosting company includes templates or is there another site that I can design my site & use a separate company to host? BTW, do you offer design services?
@Craylor4 жыл бұрын
I know Hostinger offers some sort of website builder, but I would honestly use a known website platform like WordPress, Wix, or Squarespace. Wix and Squarespace are proprietary platforms, so you won't need web hosting for that. WordPress will work on any web host. I have several videos on my channel comparing Wix vs. Squarespace vs. WordPress. Yes - I do offer web design services. You can learn more at hirechristian.com/webdesign

@@Craylor Is WordPress free to use? What I learned from your vids is that I want to use either the hosting service you use or hostdinger. As someone else commented, I subscribed after listing to you for a minute. Thanks for having your channel
@Craylor4 жыл бұрын
@@jjf609 Yes, WordPress is free to use. The only costs associated with WordPress are web hosting (Hostinger, Namecheap, Dreamhost, etc.) and the domain name itself. You can also buy "premium" WordPress themes that are around $60 one time cost, but there are also lots of free themes you can use.

Presumably you can change web hosts later on according to your needs?
@Craylor4 жыл бұрын
Yes! You can change web hosts whenever. The only caveats are you'd lose your remaining time at a host if you paid for one or multiple years, and it also can be a bit of a pain to move your files over. If you aren't totally confident in a host yet, I'd start out paying month-to-month if you can to make the exit process easier.

How secure is Namecheap compared to other hosts?
@Craylor3 жыл бұрын
They support two-factor authentication and physical security keys, so I'd say they are pretty secure. Security is subjective, though, and there's always security holes in anything.
