Finally doing the 2000's death metal list. That decade is where tech death, brutal death, and melodic death metal really started to hit their stride and so many new bands debuted. Out of all the albums on this list I've heard, here would be my ranking: S - Lykathea Aflame - Elvenefris, Vader - Litany, Children of Bodom - Follow the Reaper, The Crown - Deathrace King, Decapitated - Winds of Creation, Immolation - Close to a World Below, Dying Fetus - Destroy the Opposition A+ - Nile - Black Seeds of Vengeance, Dark Tranquillity - Haven, Behemoth - Thelema.6, In Flames - Clayman, Soilwork - The Chainheart Machine, Morbid Angel - Gateways to Annihilation, The Haunted - Made Me Do It, The Chasm - Procession to the Infraworld, Exhumed - Slaughtercult, Krisiun - Conquerors of Armageddon, Extol - Undeceived A - Incantation - The Infernal Storm, Kataklysm - The Prophecy (Stigmata of the Immaculate), Kalmah - Swamplord, Hypocrisy - Into the Abyss, Brodequin - Instruments of Torture, Quo Vadis - Day into Night, Nunslaughter - Hells Unholy Fire, Contrastic - Contrastic, Cryptopsy - ...And Then You'll Beg B - Origin - Origin, Benighted - Benighted, Centinex - Hellbrigade, Dismember - Hate Campaign, Eternal Tears of Sorrow - Chaotic Beauty C - Cattle Decapitation - Homovore D - Deicide - Insineratehymn F - Six Feet Under - Graveyard Classics

I just happened to re-listen to Krisiun Conquerors...last night. It is a FANTASTIC album, definitely worthy of a 'perfection' rank. I remember when it came out its was one of the fastest most brutal albums out there, and certainly better than many albums on this list (i was looking so forward to Deicide at the time and was horribly disappointed ..ugh). Another is Cryptopsy, i dont understand how people dont like Whisper, or ...And then You'll beg, simply crushing albums that werent stagnate when so many others were at this time in death metal. Also, Immolation Close to a World Below is probably a tie with Nile for the best on this ranking. These two albums were miles ahead of the pack in the originality and atmosphere that they set out to achieve, not to mention the technical proficiency of the band themselves. Masterclasses in death metal by each. Pretty decent rankings over all though!

It is soooo cool to see Lykathea on here! Apparently a follow up has been in the works for years, but the main guy has been cited as being lazy lol I have the cd somewhere but I wish it was on Spotify or Bandcamp
@Goryptor9 ай бұрын
Lykathea Aflame has gained quite a decent following for such an inactive UG project. Ptoe needs a bit of a push to release the follow up, so does Snorre and his Thorns and Nagash and his Kovenant.

To me, Macabre 'Dahmer' is one of the most unique concept albums of all time, and definitely my favorite of the year 2000. That Nile album comes pretty close though, and the one lone Lykathea Aflame album is also very unique. The Origin debut is close to perfection too in my world; the drumming of John Longstreth is second to none! 👌 Great ranking of a great year! 👍

The reason why Kalmah's Swamplord sounds astonishing is because it's recorded at Tico Tico Studios. Most of early Sentenced, Impaled Nazarene, Sonata Arctica and some CMX have been recorded there. The owner is a great guy and a regular in most of the local music events.

Spotify always seems to have issues with the Elvenefris album as well. I love that one but can only listen to that on youtube. One of your fav Vader albums is the same way and it's not fair.

Massively satisfying to see a couple of Czech acts here. Contrastic definitely deserve more attention, they're more on the grindcore side of the spectrum but as experimental as you can get. Their current release Mamun is 10/10 again.
@queensofthedthrone82678 ай бұрын
Commenting of course for some engagement but wow this series has been wild. I honestly hope you keep pushing all the way to present day, even if its a top 10-15 per year kind of thing. But one example out of 100s I can make by now of how you got me out of a rut in my music listening was Killswitch. I always would put on As Daylight Dies and be like "eh" but you putting that in C tier relative to End of Heartache was a big change for me. Still not an all time favorite band of mine or anything. If I hd to make one honorable mention out of the maelstrom of metal I have been subjecting myself to from these lists, that riff on Twilight by Edge of Sanity makes little use of fucking around.
@erikdead82909 ай бұрын
Kudos for the inclusion of the fantastic Quo Vadis and Lykathea Aflame! Elvenefris is definitely perfection for me 🤘🏻, and I had no idea of the Disembarkation existance, being something in the vein of Atheist and Cynic it is a must for me now. Also, for more crazy Czech metal I highly recommend you to listen to !T.O.O.H.!, these guys are crazy! Their debut was also released in 2000 and it's a mash up of grind, brutal death and tech death, absolutely nuts stuff! Although this one is very chaotic, dissonant, somewhat noisy and a bit inconsistent, it is a very interesting listen and a nice beginning for the magic the managed to get for their next 2 records, which are very impressive. Curiously, you can find the debut with the titles, vocals and lyrics in 2 different languages, in Czech as "Z vyšší vůle", and English as "From Higer Will". I hope you give it a spin and cheers from Mexico! 🤘🏻

There’s only so much time to work on these and the views-to-hours-spent isn’t exactly pushing me to put more of my limited time into them. It would be nice if people could just be thankful for the time I already put into these. I don’t think they realize how much work it is even if I enjoy it.
