I lived on the Upper West Side back in '92 and one day on W73rd or thereabouts, I saw this little girl walking down the sidewalk with her dad and she was singing this song to him. As we passed I realized it was Daisy and the look on my face made her smile. A month or so later I saw this concert and realized that I'd seen her practicing...

Daisy Eagan is a rarity these days. This production shows what a real person looks like. This performance is the best of Sondheim's song I've seen!

I saw this Sondheim tribute on TV almost 20 years ago and I thought that Daisy Eagan's performance was the best one, by far. She was enchanting and a true B'way baby. There must be at least a dozen excellent versions of "Broadway Baby" (I love Bernadette Peters's) but this one is my favorite. Thank you, BestArtsSondheim, for posting this. I thought I would never see it again.

Grew up together in NYC. She was performing a greuling (adult schedule of) 8 shows a week, was the youngest to win the top Tony Award, at 11 years of age, and all of this with her beloved mommy DYING OF COLON CANCER in the middle of it. How many grade school classmates did YOU have who were BOTH so talented and so STRONG? She has never lost her talent and spark, and being a great mother is another addition to the résumé! I thought the comment about it being "pitchy" and bad was not only incorrect, but it gives no idea what that time was like for a CHILD who's mother just died, doing an ADULT'S JOB, DOING IT BETTER THAN ALL THE ACTUAL ADULTS THAT YEAR, and never sinking into the child star trope of drugs and egoism.... just wanted to ask if that person would be so spectacular as a 6th grader in mourning on a Lincoln Center stage and broadcast to MILLIONS? It's a great performance for ANY age, and done with her childhood, very knowing, adult sense of humour. We should all be so talented and "together" and full of humour in the face of adversity and quite literally with the world watching....

She's amazing but wasn't Frankie Michaels the youngest winner?
@sarahhomrighausen73493 жыл бұрын
@@melfortune5855 maybe in the last few years, but when we were 11 in school for NYC performing kids, she was the youngest at the time (1990 I remember) to get best lead - male or female.
@zigfried642 жыл бұрын
@@melfortune5855 Yes, Frankie Michaels is still the youngest Tony winner for playing Young Patrick in the original Broadway cast of MAME. He was 10 at the time. Daisy is the youngest young lady to win, but in terms of the youngest winner, the late Frankie Michaels still holds the record.

Why does she look like Lena Dunham 😂
@cka2nd4 жыл бұрын
It was 1992, and everything old is new again, maybe? Or, the six-year old Lena Dunham saw this concert live or on TV and became such a huge fan of the 12-yo Daisy Egan that she's modeled her look after Daisy's look in this performance ever since. "That's It!" (Shouted like Charlie Brown in "A Charlie Brown Christmas).
