I love that you went for the full episode(s) (yes hoping you'll do them all!) To answer a few of your questions, Tim and Henk both knew who Floor was, the others did not, Rolf has Dominican roots and is fluent in Spanish, Dutch and English (mom i believe?) and he has scored a few hits in the (Miami) Latin hit charts. Emma does sound like that, he voice was consistent like this, all season long, the girl can sing! :) (and i believe you are right about her focus on where the mic is at all times) For Ruben, when you get to know him and his backstory, you're gonna fall in love with him, he's a great kid (youngest there, 20 year old singer-songwriter) Tim has been around for a long time as one of the leading rock singers in the Netherlands, the song Rolf did was a bit of a strange choice, more of a "you worked on this, remember?" kind of thing, a bit of joking and like Sistah said, the song is not meant to be deep, its meant to make you move and dance :). And Samantha is quite the powerhouse singer, she gained a lot of respect in this show, and rightfully so. This being the first episode, its a bit of a warm-up, every episode after this, got better and better (and i dont think this was a bad episode by any means, it was good, just saying, it gets better :P) You most certainly should do Floor's episode, but i personally wouldnt mind if you did all episodes (you'd be the first channel to have reacted to all the songs!) hehehe. Loved the reaction, i'm missing the show still, my yearly addiction ;)

@@HalfLifeSistah definitely watch all the episodes. Even the artists whom you might not be as impressed with on this episode had some really great performances later on. I was especially impressed by Emma, once when she did "Strong" during Floor her episode (4), a song written by Floor during her time with After Forever for her mother who is always in pain because of rheumatism, and again during the final episode (8) in her duet with Henk Poort "Vivo Per Lei" (I Live for Her), a song originally by Andrea Bocelli whom Henk knows personally. I do believe that Tim Akkerman said that he knew Floor's work. There are backup signers in the band that sing with the one singer on stage. The female singer can sing with Floor so you know she's good.

Because of this show Floor is doing a solotour through the netherlands with the backing band. All shows sold out within 24 hours. And that is including the 3 extra shows she added after selling out the others. So the netherlands knows her now. Even the nightwish show for november next year sold out already so they added another night for that as well. Happy to say i will see her solo and with nightwish 😁

I found these translated shows a few weeks ago and really loved them. you were wondering about Rolf, he is Dutch and Dominican, sent to Holland when things got bad in the Republic when he was a kid. That will come later in the shows. Just getting through the first Flooring of the group. Had to add. Henk knew of Floor, but in an "A name I have heard of before" kind of way. Tim knew Floor personally from her days in her first band and doing festivals together, but was not expecting that. The only other person on there I was in any way familiar with is Samantha from her Blind Audition on the Voice Holland popping up on one of the compilations (Pureemotion's likely) All of them were very very good. I was waiting for you two to get to this! and seeing how you'd do the research and pull the actual episodes that Denise Hofs translated makes it even better! I will say this though before you react to Floor and Henk performing Phantom of the Opera. Go back and watch your own reaction to Phantom of the Opera with Tarja. I say that not to compare the two, but just to get you two ready for what you're about to hear, because they used the Nightwish arrangement of the song for Floor and Henk. Also, be sure to watch the entire episode for when Floor is on the center couch, and in particular, Henk's version of The Sound of Silence. He uses Disturbed's arrangement for it, but also adds distortion, a la David Draiman, to his voice. Normally this is a BAD thing to do when you're purely an opera singer, but he did it for Floor. That plays into what they do for PotP. To answer your question about Rolf, yes, he does speak Spanish. His story on that and what Floor sings is great, especially when you talk about how Floor takes a song and makes it her own. Not to spoil anything, but you'll definitely want to catch that. Also, every song from this season of Beste Zangers has been released as a single, with some of Floor's songs hitting #1 in the Netherlands. Hit up your favorite Tunes store, and you'll see them. And finally, like with Ghost Love Score, keep some tissue nearby. Both of you are going to need them, as there wasn't a single singer on this season that Floor didn't leave crying in a pool of their own Floorgasm! You've been warned. :) :)

"Beste Zangers" has a double meaning in Dutch; it can be translated as "Best singers", but it can also be interpreted as a salutation: "Dear singers". The latter sounds like the start of a friendly gathering. I think it reflects the show quite well.

Emma was live. The band is that good. The live mix is incredible! I was blown away by all of these singers. Most of them sing with an earpiece so they can hear themselves. Henk sings without any assistance. His voice will melt you! The song he sings to Rolf is wonderful!

This is not a competition for singing the best as many foreign people think. Singers with different backgrounds participate.The intention that each episode is 1 participant in the center and the other sing a song in their own way, that can be a song of that person or a song with a memoryaan,at the end of the episode, they are asked by whom they were most affected and who is then "the winner" At the very last episode of the season come the duets and that can be done e.g. to be a rapper versus opera with surprising results. There are no Managers, family, friends, who "look over their shoulders" or who can exert influence. The great thing about "Beste Zangers" is that the musicians are free how they want to make a song sound and then you get sometimes surprises that you do not expect, that is the power of the "Beste Zangers". look for example Og3ne (Ogeene) they sang a song "Sing" by Ed Sheeran where they applied a kind of rap they called this "echoing" kzbin.info/www/bejne/jJvFl4Vvg9mhhKc note: at the end of their performance (4.40) they explain how this works,they are also famous in the Netherlands for their fantastic harmony.

I wish North America would adopt some form of program like this, but it seems so many 'reality' programs are focused on the drama, the competition and the audience voting. The fact that a 'winner' is named at the end of each program for Beste Zangers is really a moot point - it's a variety show (and it's been a long time since American & Canadian audiences had something like this - again, that wasn't a full-on competition). I love the format! I showed my dad this program (and he's Dutch, so didn't need the subtitles), and this was his introduction to Floor (as I'm a Nightwish fan) - to pardon the pun, he was floored! He quickly went through the whole season! As a lover of dancing, I'm with Sistah on this - if a song has a groove & beat, it can be complete fluff, but if it makes me move, it's good! (can anyone say 90's Eurodance? Some of those pieces were garbage, but the grooves were infectious!) Great reaction guys!

Also yes, everything is indeed sung live, they may do some fine-tuning afterwards, but I honestly don't think they did that, Emma has a very breathy voice which makes it sound very fake at times, but this indeed is her real voice, she has some acapella songs as well on her KZbin if you want to see more of here! :)

Ruben was like the baby of the group. Henk the Gramps, Floor the Mother and the others brothers and sisters. They were great as a group and you should go through the whole journey with them! It was done over a week (real time) each night a show for a different person but shown over 8 weeks. The band is so good as they helped the singers arrange their songs as you'll find out if you watch the shows.

I worked in tv, these kind of shows are not dubbed. They do however sound different than it would if you were standing there in person. If you’re there then you listen to the singer, band, and all surrounding noises depending on where you’re sitting. The mics record direct sounds from the guests, singers, band and surroundings, everything has its own mic, then it’s all remixed so as to showcase the important parts, the surrounding is lowered and the singer’s voice is made louder than the guests (regardless if it was higher or not). When the songs are released from live (like spotify), every mic but the singer and band are muted.

Wolf, when you say, "when you're that world sensation but you are not well known in your own country", it made me instantly think about Gojira and their total absence from the music medias here in France! This is crazy. They were at the USA Grammy awards but their existence has never been even mentioned in our "Victoires de la musique" (sic!) I think you guessed the translation... I's the anual musical event which gives prizes to pop / folk / singers / hip hop etc musicians, outside classical and jazz, which have their own event. Metal is still like a antitesis of music for most of the people here, well nothing new, but, more sad, for the music industry little world. That's why as soon as they started the band, they knew they had to play live outside of France and work hard for recogntion. Thankfully metal is (almost) global!

Hey, Wolf, just want to correct something you said in the beginning. Henk Poort as well as Tim Akkerman were the only ones who knew Floor before show. Tim met her during After Forever (first band of Floor). And Henk... Well, that's actually interesting that while metal is looked down upon by most people, a guy who did opera for his whole life knows Floor "Metal Girl" Jansen and likes her.

We in the Netherlands are a multi cultural society. And I think most people don't really like metal or are into it. At least I know that the mainstream radio stations play more chart music. Like top 40. And metal you don't see much in it. I, myself love metal and celtic the most.

Correct, they recorded it live. However, they recorded it in April and broadcast it in September/October. So there has been some light editing, for example volume and equalizing, to make sure you can hear everything properly and it's balanced with the instruments. That's what is causing this "studio sound".

Love this reaction!! Thank you for the in-depth commentary; it's really nice to relive the series with you. Hopefully you can do more! Regarding Wolf's comments about Rolf's song choice having no soul... 1) not all songs need to have intense deep meaning. Art can just be fun, and that can be a value that serves a certain purpose. 2) it's ok if it doesn't resonate with YOUR soul, but if it speaks to someone else's soul in some way, it's still art. Doesn't mean you have to like it or understand it or anything. There's certainly art that I don't like but I still consider art because it means something to someone. I guess as an art-maker myself, I just never want to discourage people from trying to make things... Even if I don't understand it. Expressing likes and dislikes is totally cool, I mean this is a fucking reaction video after all 😂 but as a content creator, just want to remind you of a certain responsibility you have about your influence and the way you present your opinions, biases, etc. (which are culturally informed/socialized)

More information about the singers in (allready the 12th season of) this show: -Samatha Steenwijk: Sings Dutch folklore since 2009 and runner up in the Voice of Holland 2018, which made her more famous in the Netherlands. Like Floor she has a very strong and powerfull voice. - Ruben Annink. Won the Dutch TV show Singer/Songwriter and in the spring of his career. Writes his own songs. - Rolf Sanchez : Latin/Salsa/Reggaeton singer with 3 no 1 hits in the American Billboard Tropical Songs Chart, including the song Que Se Siente that Floor sang for him in the previous episode. He works with Guianko Gómez, producer of Marc Anthony. Like Floor better known outside than inside The Netherlands, especially in Latin America. - Henk Poort :. Very well known Opera/Operette/Musical singer in the Netherlands for whom Floor sang the Vilja song. Sang the dutch version of The Phantom of the Opera (spoiler: He and Floor will sing that duet in the last episode) - Tim Akkerman Former : member of the Dutch rockband Di-Rect (1999-2009) and now having a career of his own. His latest album contains American Rock influenced by Bruce Springsteen, Pearl Jam and Ryan Adams. - Emma Heesters: Has her own YouTybe Cover channel with more than 1 million followers. This is live, but the circumstances are almost studio-like, controlable, band sitting, acoustic surrounding controlled ( open air is always the best ) , and so on. And of course in the week after the recordings, de producer can put a bit extra "make-up" on the sound, and mix the sound a bit up. But that's all afterwards, without the singers. The band and the singers rehearse together and talk/about and make the arrangements a bit together, so that's why the 'Vilja-lied' was made a bit more Nightwish-like. ( Floor's present for Henk and to show the normal metal/opera combination she is used to do )

Yeah, originally the concept was to get as close to the other artist's music as possible, i.e. who could best replace the other person on stage because they were so close to the original. That was scrapped in favor of the current format of each artist being celebrated and getting to hear the others either sing their songs in possibly surprising ways, or having songs that mean a lot to them sung for them. The current format is SO good. So moving.

It's about half past midnight here, I'm supposed to wake up at 6 am and now I'm thinking "Hmmm... why wouldn't I just wait for the Phantom.." :D As if I haven't heard it a couple of.. ok ok, dozen or so times already. Well, I guess I'll try to get some sleep. But before I go, just a little advice: Make sure you guys have extra supply of tissues at hand before watching that performance. I know you most likely have high expectations for it. Well, they will not be met. That performance, or should I say, THE performance have waved at our expectations as it flied high above it. ;)

Hi newbie here to your channel, and a new Floor fan from her country ( a shamed to say i was one of the people who didnt know her before the show ), would love to see you 2 do all episodes. Loved the comments, and seeing you two discuss the show, and even tho i am bias because it is a show from my country, i have to say i was never much a fan of the show even tho sometimes they had a few fantastic songs/singers but yeah this season was defenitly worth it! I had many, many of these moments of total clarity before when Wolf was talking about music and life and stuff. We really do have a very similar stance on things but this, when Rolf Sanchez was performing... I literally rolled on the floor ( figure of speech !), laughing.. What purpose does it serve if it only has a rhythm and a beat ? Man, music to you and to me is the same thing. Sistah’s access to material sometimes comes from a different place, which I think is normal. But that line was so iconic... What purpose... I think I’m gonna make a shirt with that one on it.

In the beginning of the video Wolf explains a bit about the Germanic people, same kind divided in other countries with a bit of a language difference, but when Tim sings borders didn't count and he has the same feelings like those who are speaking Dutch. A nice touch is that Sistah sees what is happening and put her arm around him :)

Floor singing a song like this is big fun to watch. But it is not an easy song and she sets the standard for the entire show. The others have to do their very best to matcht that. Wauw! And there is much more to say. Like Ruben who has the guts and stretches witihin his limits, Emma who's getting out of he comfort zone, Tim the rocker that sings with such a feeling and Samantha who doe Samantha. This is a great episode and it's only the start of the show.

Well wishes from The Netherlands, I am such a lucky bastard. I have tickets to two seperate shows of Nightwish in Amsterdam(23th and 24th of November) and my sister holds our tickets to on of Floors Solo shows in The Hague (1st of Februari) Thank you for doing the first Episode were they all sing for Henk Poort Floors Idol from her childhood 😍😜👌 Rolf Sanchez is like Floor Jansen, he is huge in the Latin Music world overseas, but in The Netherlands not that much 👀

@@WolfKain They always come to the USA because Tuomas believes it's important for the fans and ussually in Intimate (Small) veneues. That was one of the legs of the Tour Marcello, Tarja's husband wanted to end because Nightwish always lost money on the USA leg of their tour.

You're right. It is NOT dubbed over. It is all live. Mind you, they have the "Marcel Fisser band" (a collection of Dutch professionals that do lots of live TV and stage work) and the show has a separate production team that is a dedicated music production team (the best in the Netherlands), so the sound quality is of course top notch. (You don't see the technicians frantically flipping switches and sliding sliders on screen, but trust me, they're there).

The professional production and mixing of the show produces that "studio" effect. The show is set up to ultimately be able to release these performances on iTunes, Spotify, etc so they are recorded almost as if it's a studio. They can even noise-cancel much of the sofa noise out for the iTunes releases. It's a seriously sophisticated recording set up.

This whole show is set up with a studio sounds. After the show season ends they use these recording to release a CD with these songs. That is why the sound is so good. Remember they do have back ground singers. everything is sung live. Reuben is only 20 and the youngest of the singers on this show. Samantha is like Celina Dion. Emma is like Christina Aguilera. Tim would like to be Bruce Springsteen.

Wow. It's very beautiful to see the emotional reactions of the both of you to the performances and the intros to it. It is contagious. Wolfkain seems already be informed about the show and he's enjoying it to watch it again and explain it to Halflifesistah. I saw many reactions to the performances but yours are special. Hopefully you react to the other shows as well, preferably in order of broadcast so that the zenith comes last. Halflifesistah is up for a roller coaster ride of emotions. Especially the performances of Floor. I can't wait.

The reason Nightwish or Floor's former Dutch band After Forever are not on the radio is that the Dutch are less into metal than the Finns. But also because the songs are to long compared to the average song that is played on the radio. The same goes for Zappa or Pink Floyd.

You have to at least do all of Floor's individual performances, one incredible experience after another. She literally owns the shows and several of the numbers went to #1 on iTunes Europe the next day. Her solo tour also immediately sold out everywhere. Finally getting the recognition she deserves as the world's greatest singer.

This is not about choosing favorites, but the song that touches Henk the most. So it could be Henk (or others in their episode) choose a song that wasn't the best performed, but about the one that touches you the most. As you don't speak Dutch, you also don't know what the song is about. The programme is all about honouring each other.
