Ok, ive seen this kind of comments alot, like how an indie game is way better, more original than any triple A multimillion dollars games out there. But let me ask you a question. If you are the CEO of said company, or producer, director whatever, if you are responsible for hundreds of people job, stability and life for atleast the next couple of years, do you dare to make the choice to create something new, something you dont know whether it will fail or not, something that may affect those "hundreds of people"? And while we are on that topic, do you know where original games from those big companies came from? Usually they are from a group of new employees at the company that dont have too many people in said group. Why? Because it wont affect that many people if they fail, and because even if they did the other parts of the company that created those triple A you are talking about make enough money to safeguard such failure. Its exactly why indie sometime is better, because they are not responsible for other ppl, they only have themselves to worry about and their decisions only affect themselves, and its also why Undertales or Shovel Knight only successfully came to life due to the raise of Kickstarter, cause thoae created the safety net that they dont have before, which was only available for the small team under a big company pior to this. So dont dis those triple A game, even if you never play them they are what make some of the best original titles available

Let me just add that I believe that there are people like me who didn't do the Genocide run not because we couldn't stomach it, but because we really didn't want to grind in a game that gives us only one fighting option.

About 5 years later and still, everytime I go back to Undertale, it still feels fun, and new somehow. This game is one of the best things in my life, no matter how many times I go back to it, I love it so much, one of the few games i've never forgot about over the years. It has a very giant and soft place in my heart. This is the best game i've ever experienced in my whole life, it literally has just about no flaws. And I always manage to find out something new about this game almost every time I come back to it. I genuinely enjoy this game, even watching people play it feels nice, especially if it's their first time. I really honestly do love this game a whole damn lot Thank you so damn much Toby, thank you.

Love the editing and music on this one. In fact I might have to say this was the best editing I've ever seen in a KZbin video...And I've seen *a lot* of KZbin videos. One thing I think I disagree though with the video is whole bring a monster for having to see what the genoside ending is. I'm a person who is always thinking of everything for what it is, and when I played Undertale, I was just thinking, "I wonder what other content this game has?", and maybe I'm just heartless but I didn't really feel all like a monster at all playing through it. After all, it's a game, none of the characters are real, so what does it matter you know? I'd argue there's nothing wrong at all with just wanting to see what else a game has to offer. But maybe you were just saying that was Toby's intent? If so then...maybe? Not sure...I guess I just always saw it more as a "This would be really cool to put it" kinda thing then anything else... Anyway I have no clue what I'm even talking about anymore so whatever and great video. Looking forward to the next one in October :P

I finished the Normal and Pacifist ending, I felt so addicted that I replayed the game again in Pacifist. Then I entered into OBD forums, to talk about how powerful Frisk and Flowey/Asriel were in the endgame (it is a fictional fights forum). But then I saw people saying Sans was very powerful, but I never saw him fight.... then I started digging and found out about the genocide run. I saw a video with all the scenes difference in genocide run of course... If they would have told me to kill everything at the very begging, hell, I would do it, no problem. But knowing them and then killing them... sorry, I'm too loyal to well written characters in videogames so, I let someone else do it for me.... I guess I'm that kind of evil. I learned something today, you won a subscribe.

@Envy_May8 жыл бұрын
It's pronounced "Undyne", not "Undyne"!
@danniemiesse46437 жыл бұрын
Undine are actually from the same class of mythology as nymphs; pronounced "nimfs". Similar to sylph, synonym, et cetera. Those are closer in spelling and context of Undyne than words like dryad, cyborg or wyvern; so imho its perfectly acceptable to say Undin over Undine. Personally I'd agree that Undine sounds better and the E at the end would generally imply that "dine" is more correct, but on the whole- I really just wish people would shut the fuck up about how words should be pronounced. Who gives a shit about how one name is said just a couple times in a half hour video about the core themes and psychology of one of the top rated games ever. If you want to argue over stuff like that, why not make your own video focused on that instead of making it look like you honestly care more about 2 seconds of audio than the two months of effort he put into the analysis and construction of this video?

I want to say here what I've already said to some. I did spoil many things about the game before I came to your video. About a week or so ago, I was bored and some friends dressed up as Sans and Papyrus for Halloween. I knew nothing about Undertale really, but still watched Dunkey's video on Undertale. Then I kept watching more videos. Eventually, I did find out about Toby Fox's intentions of me not spoiling, but I didn't care. And kept watching. Until.. your video, when you were the first person to say TWO times to not spoil. Out of guilt, after that, I played the game. I did an all nighter, played almost all day the next day to make up for what I did. Then I watched your video and the ending fucking killed me. The only thing that kills me more is that I want to do the genocide route and then the pacifist route again even though I know what will happen at the very end won't be the same. I also believe I went through the game so heavily, because I wanted to see it with my own eyes. That's the same reason I want to go through the genocide route and then the pacifist route. To see it with my own eyes. But like with my first play through of pacifist and then true pacifist route, one of the big reasons I want to play genocide and then pacifist again is out of guilt. Guilt for going way overboard with spoilers. I have a philosophy of looking for spoilers so I don't waste any time and have an idea of what I get before I play. But by spoiling as much as I have, I've shown route endings that I KNOW I would've done. For that, the only thing I can do to make up even a teensy bit is to do what I would've done if I hadn't done the spoiler route. Still, though, I believe even after all of that, something will be greatly different about my Undertale experience. I realized something. I don't want to just do the genocide route and then true pacifist. I'm thinking I want to do them over and over again. After all, I will have knowingly gone from genocide to my second true pacifist playthrough. If I hadn't spoiled the game, I probably would've stopped after my second true pacifist playthrough out of sheer guilt for what I had done. In that hypothetical sequence of events, I wouldn't have gone through to the second true pacifist play-through knowing a gruesome ending awaited. But because I know, what difference does it make to do it a second time, a third time, a fourth time? I'll play this game countless times genocide to true pacifist and then back again. The sadist RPGer in me probably has won despite the enormous guilt that I will feel. From all this, I think Undertale is one of the best games ever, for making me feel not only guilt, but also showing how radically different a game can be for me if I spoil. Prior to it, I seemed to believe that spoiling was generally an alright experience. After all, I have still enjoyed the spoiled things immensely. But for Undertale, the difference will be night and day, from feeling guilt out of the horror I unintentionally committed to feeling guilt out of the horror I intentionally knowingly committed.

Interesting that the game can be seen as a psychological evaluation of the player, and I wonder what it says about me that I never reset the game once, never altered any decisions, and had no idea that there was a meta-element at all until Flowey crashed the game after the final boss fight. At which point I beat Flowey, said "neat bonus boss", and never touched the game again.

This would have been me if people didn't hype it up so much, so I knew there had to be more. Best video ever. My mind is blown. I feel like I've never seen editing this good, the insane amount of effort you put into your analysis and research blew my mind and you made me laugh out loud multiple times (especially the "sonic fans" part). It was more than just a great analysis video, it was an actually an emotional and introspective journey, just like the game itself. Though I've gotta say you've predicted me wrong. I played through the game twice (first time I already only killed like 2 enemies, cause I was already feeling bad for killing the dummy the 1st time), after which I stopped cause by that point, the obnoxious fandom has gotten through to me and I knew only self-hatred was to ensue after that (also, the game literally told me to not ruin this great ending where everyone lived happily ever after). Not to brag, but I felt a moral obligation to stop. The reason I watched this video was rather because I was just watched the rest of your videos I haven't watched before, not for the sake of morbid curiosity (I'm well aware of how pretentious I sound). Keep up the great work, however I feel like you should prioritize quantity a little more. As much as I've sucked your dick in this comment, I'd welcome a little more but less perfect videos if only they came out more often than half a year. WHAT DID YOU DO TO ME, YOU MONSTER!? I was one of them, you know? One of the ones that fell to the temptation of spoilers.., I even felt justified, because I tried to resist countless times, until I had bought and played the game... until I didn´t. One video came after another, and suddenlyI knew everything about the story. And for the longest time, that made me feel good.Through viedos, articles, Let´s plays and whatnot, I thought I had been able to know everything about the game, to experience every possibility without ever feeling the guilt of murdering those amazing characters, and the same time, knowing them, even if I would never be part of t game's unvierse... But your video destroyed all that! Now I'm not the one who smartly escaped the forever pain of the genocide run, I'm worst, I forever denied myself the real experience, because of YOU, now I know that I'll never feel everything the game could offer, and for that I can´t never forgive you properly... At the same time... For the first time ever, I feel like I'm part of it! Now I know that, Indeed, I have Experienced a part of the game that few have. Even if just a little, even if just a glimpse, I can know that the game touched. I can admit whithout a doubt, that this game is one of a kind, a work of art tho rival the great classics of the world. What other game could touch those who haven´t even played it!? And I can olny thank you for showing me that! Thank you, Toby Fox, for such an amazing experience, and thank you BestGuyEver! For me at least, you have earned that username of yours! I managed to not get spoiled for an entire year, only knowing some of the characters' names and that there was a "Pacifist" and "Genocide" run. I played it on stream for my friend and some random people that showed up. I got both the Neutral and True Pacifist endings in that time and it was great. But you're right, I DID watch an LP of the Genocide run rather than trying it myself (and not just because I'd never be able to beat Sans). And I do love how Flowey calls you out on it in his dialog.
@greenbookreclaim24714 жыл бұрын
I thought. I really thought I appreciated Undertale. But I didn't play it, I'm never going to play it cus I don't have a PC. So I spoiled everything. And even ruined my brother's experiance, when he asked me how to defeat Torial on his first play through. And when he finaly gave me a chance to play Undertale for myself. I was greated by Flowey. Pleading to not play the game again. 'Go make a flowey fan club.' And I actually began to get emotional. I teared up alone looking at that screen. And I decided to leave things as they are. Without a true reset. (And that's my game experiance of undertale. The personal ending.)

And then there's me. I'm not good enough/don't have enough determination to get past Sans. So I listened to his advice. XD Knowing that there was a pacifist route also kinda screwed things up a bit, I wish I had managed to stay 100% blind... :/ oh, well.

The genocide route also reminds me a lot of the Demon Path from Soul Nomad and the World Eaters, where the protagonist decides early on to just butcher anyone and everyone, and most of the drama of the story comes from how everyone, hero and villain alike reacts to this unstoppable force of evil. It even gets a little bit meta when the protagonist's entire reason for going on a rampage and eventually destroying the entire universe is just "because it seemed fun," which is more than likely exactly the reason why players started the Demon Path in the first place.

You know, talking about how all the reviews and music and stuff about the game is part of it and was planned for, reminds me once more how awesome homesick is for this too. So glad I learned about toby through his work on the music in that amazing web comic.

*Message to genocide route completers* And what? You think it was really worth it? Bunch of lifes for your curiosity? Killing everyone just to check one digital ending? Killing your best friend? Was it really worth it? Ask yourself. For me, it was.

I was wondering what you could say about this game that I hadn't already thought about. Maybe I had already thought about most of it on some level, but god damn if you didn't say those things more eloquently and succinctly then my worthless shitting brain ever managed to. It was kinda odd to me that you had decided to put so much effort into talking about a game that already has boatloads of attention, but now I see why. This is by far the best evaluation of Undertale on youtube, and probably one of the best analyses of a game on here as well. Great job man. Now I've got big shoes to fill if I ever decide to try and make a Mother 3 or Lisa video >_>

Sans is not a challenge to overcome. His fight is completely unfair because he's there to STOP you. Not you, Chara. You the player. Also, I watched LPs and reviews on it because I am HORRIBLE at shmup/bullet hell gameplay. Absolutely horrible.

Another top-notch video. Makes my guilt for eventually succumbing to Genocide gameplay flare back up... But even though I've gone back to Sans to try and beat him, I'm not going to complete the route, so that's not AS bad. R-RIGHT? ...It's a bit late for it, but I'm going to try and leave the game alone for good once I get it back into a Pacifist state. Hrmf. Anyway, there really is a while between each video, but the wait is worth it--as a viewer, anyhow. Still, I wish you luck with finding them editors, bruh!

+BestGuyEver Funny thing is, In FF4 advance in an optional dungeon after beating the game, there's a trial Cecil can go through to become a worthy paladin. And there's an actual goblin that was innocent, and in order to succeed at the trial you must resist the temptation to treat it like a normal battle.

Oh, sh*t. He found me out. (Knew almost everything about Undertale before even buying it.) But you know what? Even when I felt I would never even use the FIGHT button outside the Asgore and Flowey fights, I eventually did do a Genocide Run, up to ''Sparing'' Sans. I regret nothing. (No more feeling bad about 26:09 ) I still got that feeling of experiencing something for the first time, and I rather have this than let Chara win.

I know this may sound dumb because the plot and game play are pretty different but..... I can't enjoy Undertale because of Earthbound. A lot of the music and entire concepts of Undertale were taken from Earthbound and it just makes me sad that so many people favor Undertale over such a Masterpiece of a game. I still respect Undertale as a creative and well done game but....
@acebee465 жыл бұрын
I know nothing about earthbound but a lot of the fan base for undertale, me included, are a bit younger- just too young to have grown up with earthbound. Now that we’re teenagers we can get games like this for cheap, so unfortunately it’s more difficult for us to access titles like earthbound. I’m sure it’s really great though, I’d love to play it one day

Great video but I'm just a ad bit disappointed you didn't address the psychology of 'playing Undertale' from the perspective of someone who knows they cannot beat the game (due to bullet hell) and so elected to experience it the meta way. Which is the case with, uh, a friend.

One thing I like about Undertale's morality is that it doesn't have to trick you like other games do. Games like Spec Ops: The Line and Shadow of the Colossus string you along, pretending that it's just like any other game in its genre and follows the same rules before suddenly smacking you over the head with a 2x4 and going "HA! THIS GAME HAS DIFFERENT CONSEQUENCES THAN YOU EXPECTED AND WE DIDN'T TELL YOU UNTIL IT'S TOO LATE! NOW FEEL BAD, DAMMIT!" and I hear criticism all the time about how that practice feels deceptive and cheap and I can't exactly fault people for thinking that. Meanwhile Undertale wears its intentions on its sleeve from the get go, heavily implying and finally just outright stating that you can end fights without killing anyone, and from then on the consequences of your actions are completely on you.

You are the only content creator that uses memes well. Anytime else I see them used I roll my eyes and or cringe. But somehow YOU and only you make them work. What is your secret? xD The "So you decided to spoil undertale for yourself like a fucking idiot" really got me xD
@mikewillner86267 жыл бұрын
Actually someone else ruined it for me, when I asked about like how the game plays or why I should get it, he eventually ended up telling me that you're not supposed to kill anyone and looking back I really wish I socked that guy after he said that.

Yeah... I'm glad I only watched playthoughs because IF I bought this first, I wanted to try a genocide run first because I heard it was a challange after watching all routes playthoughs a year ago and seeing this video would now show just how twisted I can be when "Çhälłæñgē" is my Obession. Man this was very eye-opening.
