As an FFXI player commenting on this years after it was made: no; the monsters are not all called Beastmen, the Beastmen are called Beastmen. There’s a handful of tribes of them and they are called such because they’re semi-sapient but still fairly monstrous. That’d be the Orcs, the Yagudo, and the Quadav, as well as the Goblins but mostly just if you’re racist towards the Chad Goblins. Anyway, they’re all being controlled by big evil but not all of them, and this entire concept gets completely recycled for Final Fantasy XIV later except they try to be way more happy go lucky with it and the Beastmen in FF14 universally across the board all have “good guy” faction offshoots within them that facilitate the idea that not all Beastmen are bad and it’s basically a thinly veiled shot against racism while also being pretty racist to begin with so it’s cool.
