There are infinite pareidolias of anything, not exclusive to or most severe with Undertale phenomena, 90% are just coincidence or other biases and illusions that trick you into seeing inexistent relationships. Covers and/or remixes are inarguable, intentional, and fewer, making the offbeat covers more bizarre than pareidolia.

One of the things I think that makes this a masterpiece is how hard the sans fight is. It requires so much of you, that by the time you beat him, you don’t feel the sadness you did when you killed undyne and papyrus. It’s a feeling of relief, just like what I’d imagine a serial killer with no real ties to anyone would feel

As someone who’s been a part of the Undertale Fandom ever since 2016, I can see how absolutely INSANE it would look from the outside. I wasn’t on Tumblr at the time, but I was on KZbin. I was there to witness the emerging of Undertale literally everywhere online. While I was still picking apart the original game, AUs were being pumped out like clockwork. Fangames, fanart, animations, webseries, lets plays, fan songs, anything you can think of. I distinctly remember watching those sans fight animations, especially the “Beautiful Day” and “Stronger Than You” ones. v0idless, SpectroliteAAA, TC-96, CrayonQueen(loverofpiggies), and Jael Peñaloza literally RAISED me. Without them, I wouldn’t be the person I was today. Yes, the Undertale fandom can be insane, but it means so much to all of us. Thank you for the video!

Speaking of AUs, I still feel Horrortale is the best one. Not because it's darker and 'scarier' but because unlike most other AUs which just either swap a few characters around, change the world it's in or just make them edgier, but because it takes place AFTER one of the neutral endings in the main game. So in a way, you could read it as semi-canon to the main game. It takes an already canon AU and expands on it, which is why I love it so much.

I’m not saying success is bad, but success definitely could change things entirely- for better or for worse. It’s so really sad that the Underfell and Underswap creators were bullied to the point where they selected their blogs altogether, but what’s sadder is that they aren’t the only ones. The creators of this AU called Flowerfell (an AU branched off from Underfell where Frisk is cursed to grow flowers every time they die but instead of attempting to prevent it by fighting back they just try to power through it with kindness with the help of Sans and Flowey) were harassed badly due to mixed reasons. I can remember the reasons why but I know some of it had to do with shipping.

The Undertale fandom is like a microcosm (maybe the wrong word given it's size) for what I love and fear about us as humans. The small things done by individuals and small groups that when combined with enough of us working together can become some massive system both beautiful & dreadful.

Sometimes, I kinda forgot just how small Undertale actually used to be. Like Toby Fox is surely surprised to see just how far his game blew up into popularity and most likely just wanted to make a fun meta RPG with inspiration from Earthbound. And revisiting it during the pandemic really showed me that there was more to Undertale than I remembered and I like it even more. Also, maybe it's just me, but I kinda realised much of the main media that I was focused on seem to have a story element of "meta" (i.e. Undertale as before, Homestuck, the Spider-Verse films). Maybe it's just that anything that has deep lore and goes meta are my appeal and it's always the ones that make me think a lot (and of course, those media will always have massive fandoms, for better or worse).

Undertale became so popular because it's so heartwarming, calming and pleasing world. I've seen some aus and most of them are actually good, well animated, sometimes well written, actually some of them were amazing, but they are stories for themselves, even though they are literally aus. I can't really explain it well, but even though some aus are very well done, undertale has its own original unique charm that we will love and remember. After all, aus were created because people wanted more of undertale. It was certainly one of the most heartwarming and emotional games ever to be made. For me, Undertale is Undertale, and bad sides of the fanbase shouldn't affect on what we think of this beautiful game.

Wow..This video is an emotional rollercoaster. I was laughing, crying, feeling depressed, feeling hopeful. The Undertale fandom is truly something special and I can’t thank the game enough for simply existing. I really wish I was a fan when the game first came out so I could experience all this in real time. I’ve been wanting to make my own AU but can’t focus for long periods of time so I never bothered to try. To be fair, I was in the Undertale community when the clamor first began for a mod engine to make your own Undertale fights/areas, and it was a VERY loud clamor. MAAANY people wanted to make their own stuff in the format. So a bunch of people were working on it all at once, which meant a lot of very user-friendly engines came out with a spread powered by social media like Tumblr.

I came into it watching a random compilation of comic dubs and from those alone became so endeared to the characters. After playing it for myself falling into the rabbit hole of fanart, AUs, and ask blogs was so fun. I only wish I could go back and experience it all again. Same. Most fandoms have the negative sides all the time, and even haters do have a point about the problems though. Toby Fox is not alone, Masahiro Sakurai is also the victim due to amount of death threats he received because the fans aren't accepted about what he has chosen the DLC characters to pick them up for Smash, especially for Geno from Super Mario RPG. Every creators have their own terrible experience of dealing with the negative side of the fandom, and the positive side is mostly harmless. At least from what I've learned from _Misery_ by Stephen King that depicted the darker side of being a super fan. Obsession is inevitable to humans, and it's impossible to make it go away unless you have to deal with it.

The last dialogue happened to me after 3 years of drowning myself in in-game runs, let's-plays, AUs, music, and fanfics, which lessened to a near stop in 2018 when Deltarune was out. I think I've written an original AU, but I know it's not original because literally every prompt that I could think of has been already made. And my problem about the fandom is how if you make an au, it has to align with the " timelines. " for example, the adopt community. You can't do this, you can't do that, and that's how the multiverse undertale au community basically is. You can't do this. You can't do that. I just don't know how we went from a great and emotional game to the rest of the fans creating their own fandoms and au's . It's really not a bad thing, (different fandoms sometimes make other au's of one character), but they make their characters and au's RIDICULOUSLY OP. I'm not joking, they make their characters way more op than characters like Anos, Rimuru, Xeno goku, and archie sonic. It just proves that they love undertale a little TOO much. More than what toby expected/wanted. Toby didn't want over a million au's, he just wanted a great gaming franchise, and a fanbase dedicated to him and the games he makes, not other versions of sans that are somehow above fiction. Even though I remember my phase of reading fan comics and AU crossovers, it still blows my mind how many there are and how massive they were. I feel like I've evolved past thinking it was cringe and seeing the incredible beauty and creativeness behind even making one AU. It's so fucking cool. The creativity behind it all inspires me so much. I guess you could say... it fills me with... determination ;)
