Broke: Gon didn't earn his meeting with Ging, his friends are the only reason he did was able to. Woke: Gon meeting Ging because of his friends is fitting because he would have met him at the end of Greed Island, had he not tried to bring a friend.

That's a great point. Ging set up everything in Gon's life to help him become a stalwart asshole loner like he was, because it worked out great for him, and made Greed Island as the final test for his developmental powers so they could meet once he beat it, but only if he did it alone and went to him by himself. He was expecting Gon to stay alone like he did and do everything alone to prove his inborn talent that the Freeces family has but Gon was too much of a Happy Boy and made friends. The fact that Ging was found by means other than what he himself set up undermined his entire life-driving events as Gon's super-absentee-but-still-somehow-thematically-present puppeteer father undermines him not just as that father, proving that family can be the friends you find along the way, but as the World's Greatest Hunter as well. It's a huge defeat for Ging as a pseudo-antagonist in the way of being Gon's ultimate quarry. Looking at it with the traditional "heroes should carve their own way" feels intentionally wrong, at least in the terms of how Togashi presented the story up to that point. I can't defend Alluka though, aside from the "pure love gets you what you want", so BGE is still an immaculate god of critique.
@BigFearedBalloon5 жыл бұрын
I more view it as, Ging trying to get Gon to make his own journey and make his own memories and friends on his journey to find him... Like how Ging made memories that weren't about the destination but the journey. Plus I find it interesting how Ging views Gon's Friends as all Gon needs, mainly when he is questioned by Leorio about why Ging didn't go see Gon. Still I'm unsure about the Greed Island warp card but I remember that was just Ging being embarrassed to meet Gon's Friends if he brought any.

I can understand your preference for the earlier, simpler parts of HxH over recent developments, but for me, the criticisms you raised towards the series have actually been what has drawn me into the series even more. You’ve said that the series is about Gon finding his father, but I feel as though this is a rather shortsighted interpretation of what the series has at its heart. The series has its goals for characters to strive after, but at heart, the series is so much more about the adventures found along the way. It’s something that I truly love about it. Reading through the series in its entirety allows you to experience such a strong feeling when looking back and saying “wow, look how far we’ve come.” It’s about going through life and experiencing all of the joys and tragedies along the way. The friends you make. The little detours that end up being far more important than your initial goal. (Edit: another really good video worth watching on this topic is The Natural Progression of Hunter x Hunter, by Mathwiz.) The series has always been like this. Even as early as the Yorknew city art, we feel the world start to pull back, in a sense, as we see that Gon, Killua and friends are, relatively, a very very small part of everything that’s going on. This continues into the dark continent arc as well, as we discover that everything that has happened thus far has only happened on a small set of islands in the center of a massive lake. This current arc has me more excited than just about anything before it, just because I know that the dark continent is being set up to have HUGE ramifications behind it. It’s portrayed as the land where humanity should NEVER go, lest they open Pandora’s box. I’m so, SO excited to see the horror and calamity that’s sure to unfold as our big cast of characters arrive there. A cast of characters who, mind you, Togashi has set up individually with their own goals and motivations that are destined to clash and rip each other apart. It’s the beauty of chaos. It’s the beating heart of adventure, and the friends you make along the way. THAT is what Hunter x Hunter is about to me, and it’s a series that’s only felt more special to me as time has gone on. I’d really encourage you to not give up on the series, and maybe try to give it another read with a perspective not focusing directly on Gon finding Ging, but more seeing the larger adventure itself. And if you want a great video that crystallizes these concepts, I’d highly recommend giving Super Eyepatch Wolf’s “Why You Should STILL Watch Hunter x Hunter” a watch. And I would also say, I completely understand feeling lost in the current arc. The walls of text certainly do get a bit excessive and overwhelming. One thing I’ve found worth trying is reading the VIZ official translation of the work. The unofficial scanslations of dark continent are a bit lacking and needlessly confusing, I’ve found. I really hope you can come to enjoy the series more. It’s one of my favorites, and it would be really great if you could find the same love for it that I have. But if you still can’t get into it, that’s ok. There’s other things to enjoy :) I’ll just be over here waiting for Togashi to come back off hiatus lol. This was long as hell, but thanks for reading.

Nanika's one of the most misunderstood characters in this series. Remember, the Zoldycks & even Killua who knows her best still don't know everything about her. There are subtle, unspoken rules about her power, and Nanika as an entity serves as an introduction for the next arc. But first let's list down what we know for a fact : 1. There's a difference between a "wish" & a "command." Killua insinuated that distinction in episode 140 when he literally said "I can't make a wish, but I can still issue a command." 2. Nobody else can utilize Nanika's powers except Killua (there's a reason for this), therefore the law of equivalent exchange is ironclad for anyone else that wishes. 3. Killua wasn't fulfilling any requests from Alluka in that locked room to make a "wish." That wasn't Nanika he was interacting with, he was just playing with Alluka, the one who calls him "brother." A misdirection for the Zoldycks. Hence why he said with certainty that "they definitely don't know about the other rules." 4. Killua didn't pay for Milluki's wish for a computer, Tsubone did, with her nails. Most people missed this. 5. She has to touch the target to fix / heal. We know in Nen, the most powerfully hax abilities require conditions / limitations / price, or at least some sort of prerequisite. That said, these are the possible unspoken rules to her power that are my own interpretation. 1. To be able to issue a command, you first must build an emotional bond with Nanika. (Which is why only Killua has this privilege) 2. Selfish / cruel wishes exact a heavy price in return. 3. Selfless / benevolent wishes don't require brutal consequences. But it has minor side-effects for Alluka. Hence why she gets tired, and sometimes passes out after healing. Long story short, this concept is similar to how the nimbus cloud works. In the sense that only those with pure hearts can ride it. In the same manner only those with pure intentions can truly utilize Nanika's powers without consequences. But the catch 22 is that the characters who can actually "abuse her powers," won't. Which is practically a conditional paradox that's grounded in the narrative. Her power has obvious limitations. I,e, you can't wish for something as preposterous as the world getting destroyed within the next few seconds. How her power works however is that it can make variables connect to fulfill the wish. For example, theoretically, it can shift a meteorite's trajectory, and in due time destroy the Earth, killing everyone in the process as the price for a wish of that magnitude. In retrospect, I came to these conclusions because of what we know about what Nanika is. [SPOILER] (An A.I, "Codependence of Desire," a Gaseous Life-Form . One of the 5 calamities of the DC.)

@@X3MAntics I read what you wrote. Did you, friend? There's limitations on Nanika's wishes. "Commands" are a separate action. Killua doesn't have to follow any rules when he commands Nanika. Even Illumi notices he doesn't have follow any rules. He also doesn't have to pay any price. At all. Otherwise, there'd be a shit ton of problems after she heals Gon. Conclusion: there's no limit to what Killua can command Alluka to do. Its basically a plot device for Killua.
@X3MAntics5 жыл бұрын
@ "Fixing is not her forte." Which is why she has to touch a target in order to heal or fix it. Ergo, it has limitations. Killua simply can't "command" her to heal everyone sick in the world. That's not how her power works.

I love how Gon just met Ging in an anti-climactic way, everything ending up in a thematically fitting way is something I don't want to see everywhere in a series, makes it feel too fictional. (but then again, BGE is the type of person who loves series with a main theme to which all events fit perfectly, like Gurren Lagann) About Chrollo getting stronger over time. I shouldn't need to say this, but all characters grow in power as time goes on. If Chrollo is so great, why not develop this bookmark long ago ? for the same reason Killua didn't develop god speed the moment he learned how to convert his Nen, for the same reason Netero had to punch empty air for so long. I read Hunter x Hunter mostly for how imaginative it is, the character interactions and Nen powers and how these powers interact to achieve different goals (which aren't always about how to kill someone). So I actually love the succession arc. Also, about Alluka, spoilers ahead . . . The "something" part of her that grants wishes is actually from the dark continent. She is actually powerful enough to heal gon, she is the "Ai" that is mentionned during the Dark Continent arc as one of the calamities, it isn't a Killua + Alluka power of friendship. Things from the Dark Continent are powerful, and Gon having to pay a price to beat one of the weaker things from the continent (Chimera ants) only to be healed by one of the stronger things from the Dark Continent makes sense. The theme of "overcoming the risk and getting hope from the dark continent" is always present throughout the arc, and Alluka (although introduced in a previous arc) is an example of one such entity where the risk it brings is very high, but can also bring hope. And I assume it is the same thing for Hellbell and the other creatures mentionned in the manga.

3:10 - Yes, please. Hunter x Hunter is my favorite shounen and one of my favorite shows in general. Would love to hear your thoughts on an arc that, imo, goes unappreciated far too often. 13:45 - I agree that the Alluka stuff felt a bit cheap. I think what they should have done was have Gon not be able to regain his Nen in any capacity. It would've shown that there were legitimate consequences for Gon's actions. One of my few gripes with HxH. 15:48 - I didn't really see this as a problem personally. As you yourself pointed out, Gon had already demonstrated his willingness to do whatever was necessary ( on a personal level ) in pursuit of his goal even going so far as to allow his best friend Killua to put himself in harm's way in order to help him ( the dodge-ball game in the Greed Island arc ). And in the end it's only because of the friendships he'd cultivated that he was able to ultimately achieve his goal. I find that narratively satisfying considering Gon had actively put his quest to find Ging on hold in order to help his friends when they needed it ( jumping into danger in order to help Leorio, freeing Killua from his family and aiding Kurapika against the Phantom Troupe ) but didn't prevent them from sacrificing for him and putting themselves at risk in order to help him. Relationships are a give and take and the great thing about Gon is that he's both incredibly loyal to the point that he's willing to do these kind of things for his friends but not so conceited as to not accept help from them and allow them do the same for him. It's because he didn't let his quest to find Ging become some all consuming desire that blinded him to everything else around him ( potential friends and new experiences ) that he was able to see it through to the end and achieve a healthy and satisfactory result. Something that I feel is highlighted by Gon's quest to gain vengeance on Neferpitou for Kite's death which causes him to neglect his friends and his own health as a result of his single-minded pursuit of that goal. I think the lesson there is that, while focus and determination are admirable qualities, like everything, they're needed in moderation lest they end up becoming harmful to you and those around you ( addiction/obsession ).

I can appreciate why you feel the way you do, but I hard disagree with you on your two points of contention with the writing. Alluka healing Gon, and Gon meeting Ging absolutely were not "bad/lazy writing". Normally I would agree with something like this being bad writing, but I actually love these two parts of Hunter a lot; like, this style of writing is the main appeal of the story for me. These are two moments that I have openly discussed with other fans as being great in my opinion. First: Gon meeting Ging. This moment sort of epitomizes the entire story. Hunter X Hunter is full of completely unexpected, hard left turns. Pretty much every arc has a moment where the rising climax is smacked to the ground. (with maybe the exception of your favorite: Greed Isalnd) The Hunter Exam ends before we can see a satisfying tournament, Zoldyck Family ends without Gon and friends rescuing Killua (because he just walks out himself), Heavens Arena doesn't really go anywhere in particular (and just ends with Gon finishing a completely unrelated goal from a previous arc) York New ends before Kurapika/ Hisoka can fight Chrollo, Ant arc ends with no one in particular defeating the ants AND the election arc ends with both an anti-climactic ending to the election itself and Gon's journey in finding his father. It's all completely consistent. I get it, it is certainly the most jarring of the examples, but if you don't like it, you just might not be a fan of this writing style. Again, this is a huge reason why Hunter X Hunter stands out for me: I love this about the story. EDIT: Also, considering the Ging is a looser absent father, I like the choice to, instead of having Gon find in in some climactic way, have them meet in a scenario (after he knowingly avoided seeing his son in the hospital) that completely catches Ging off guard, humiliates him and shows just how awful he is to much of the rest of the cast. (I like Ging as a character, but I love this moment too; it's one of my favorite in the entire story) Second: Alluka. Personally, I love the fact the Alluka is a complete anomaly. This comes off much more as an interesting plot point than it does lazy writing. And the fact that this was its own arc within the story, that had its own journey and struggles, was more than enough to make it feel justified for me. I can see where you are coming from with this one, (I do hate plot conveniences) but this really feels less "plot convenience" to me and more like an interesting plot point that introduces us to the mystique of the Dark Continent. In other stories I would probably agree with this being bad writing, but it doesn't feel out of line with what happens in Hunter. There are one or two other moments in the writing that I take problem with, but not this at all. In your opinion, what would have been a "good" way to have Gon healed? (if at all) Would another nen user (who didn't have such different nen-conditions) have been better? Would healing from any nen user go against a satisfying narrative? I understand disliking these moments, but calling them "lazy writing" isn't fair and is sort of ignorant to the rest of the story. Hunter X Hunter has never been a clean and direct narrative; that, for me, is the appeal. I wish more stories had this style of writing. Also, Greed Island video: YES
@HippoCrit5 жыл бұрын
I haven't read hunter xhunter at all but based off of this video and your comment i think i have a possible solution. What if gon was healed but it had a drawback for kilua like it would with other people who get wishes But the difference is that the drawback is on a timer (lets say he gonna die in four months or something) But because its kiluas sister, she makes it possible for the timer to be permanently stopped but you have to do/find a specific thing in the dark continent. Then gon has a reason to go to the dark continent and continue to have a role in the story, he wants to save his friend who essentially sacrificed himself to save him. This idea is probably full of holes but all you need after fullfilling a characters main goal is to give them a new one.
@LeoSkyro5 жыл бұрын
@@HippoCrit >"What if gon was healed but it had a drawback for kilua like it would with other people who get wishes" that is addressed in the story. the magnitude of the wish, if Killua didnt just order Alluka, would cause tens of thousands of people to die (if Killua failed to meet Alluka's requests, which he of course would have) I'm not a fan of this scenario. not only does it introduce what is just a new gimmick to Alluka/Nanika's established "abilities", the time limit, but then ends the same way with Alluka bailing the guys out, just with more layers of bs, which only serve to further the involvement of muh MC in the story, which of course isnt needed, because Gon is a scrub compared to the top brass of the Association and has no place in the Dark Continent.

I don't know about you but I can appreciate when things are done differently, and finishing the MC's arc and simply shifting the PoV is pretty darn unique. You don't have to like it just because it's unique but NOT liking it because it's different is even dumber IMO. I mean, the whole thesis of HxH, and Ging even spells it out for the slow ones in the back, it's about the journey, not the destination. Also regarding the walls of texts, that's on you for reading shitty scanlations. The official translations are way less text-heavy and have cleaner translations.

nate nooOOOOO that alluka thing is GENIUS beCAUSE he managed to squeeze out all the drama juice in the chimera ant arc and wagered his protagonists' life to subvert reader expectations and basically killed gon to give us drama- and then the alluka thing is so meta because, just like there was no way for the chimera ant to resolve without a sacrifice that the reader could never have expected, there is no way to bring gon back without undercutting the entire nen system so far. The alluka thing is the perfect bridge into the dark continent arc, because it shows that there is something far greater and far more insidious than nen could ever be. This way we get Gon back, but in return, we also understand the gravity of the new world if there exists power over there that can undercut everything we know so far, much like it does for the main characters.
@christopherrivera16734 жыл бұрын
What Nanika did for Gon was basically angel’s breath (Greed Island) and nen exorcism. Kurapika’s teacher in the flashback during the fight against Uvogin said not keeping your vow can cause you to lose all your nen which is exactly what ended up happening. The lack of consequences was just another anticlimactic result that occurred all throughout HxH along with Illumi being teleported away and Pariston’s resigning.
@elektrikid84635 жыл бұрын
Nate, my dude. I think you're being a little narrowminded. I understand your priorities, but I kinda have a hard time agreeing with them. I think with one piece your points about 'stranding away from the originally planned' and 'ass pulls' are a bit more valuable, because one piece's journey is a bit more clear. In one piece you got not only a set goal, but a set path. Hunter x Hunter always had this aspect of having set goals, but not set paths. Kurapika hunts the troupe, but he has to find his way to them. Gonna hunts ging, but he has to seek clues of his status by himself. So in one piece it really can feel like Oda's path is being somewhat distorted, but in many of the cases it is for the sake of increasing the density of the plot and allowing more complex situations which can keep such long running series interesting. With HxH is the same, but while Oda's style tends to achieve perfection through simplicity togashi's whole thing is about complexity and detailism. The man is literally trying to beat the reccord of most named characters in a shonen jump arc (which is held by a Captain Tsubasa arc currently, I think). Besides that, I get that with these series (specially in HxH case cause of the reasons you cited) it can be hard to get long stretches of time without seeing the characters you love. But all characters are unknown before you get to spend time with them, even the ones you now love (that's a take from another comment that I agree with) so whats the matter with giving them the chance. Other example you gave about chrollo is specially interesting to me, because putting into perspective what he accomplishes with that addition to his moveset it's really clear that it does add up a LOT of depth to the whole fight. Giving it even more of a tactical edge on top of what you came to expect from the nen system itself. And the same goes for all the other examples of 'jojo-like powers', they dont rlly take these elements out they just are building on top of such foundations with more specific abilities. Compare it to hakki, In how it creates extra layers to the fightining in one piece, but hakki is both less coherent with the overall narrative that far (since hatsu manifestations are in the series since the introduction of nen, they really just are changing into crazier abilities because togashi finds these more interesting as they allow for more complex scenarios). In the case of Alluka's introduction it is thematically coherent (there is a thematic reason for killua's exception, as you are aware of I'm sure, and on top of that it gives killua another goal to persue now that his traveling with gon is over) though somewhat plot-convenient (serves as a way to bring gon back) it is, I think, misguided to say it undermines the nen-system so far (since it is a hint of stuff beyond nen and even clear comprehension which are things that get more explored in the dark continent expedition and succession war arcs (also with nen beasts and nen post-mortem, which is a foreshadowed concept) and also has a lot of nuance to it and deepens the zoldyck family's dynamic) and I dont think it literally undercuts God's effort. First of all there is that friendship thing you mentioned and then again gon hasnt rlly found fulfillment in meeting ging like that. The talk they have over the world tree is literally about finding more important things on the way to your destination. Gon has met ging, they talked and he went home, now unable to use nen he is deprived of his real treasure. The adventures he was in. He still hasnt even in one with all the crew, he lost every treasure he discovered along the way in not being able to find discover any new ones. Aside from that this is rlly felt in his absence as a main character. Now Ging is after Don Freecs in the Dark Continent, its hunter x hunter all over again. And a lot of United stuff remains, in generall. Not only kurapika. One piece is a story about the world those characters inhabit and how they change it. Hunter x Hunter is more about the characters who live in a 'world' where the rules constantly change. You dont have to like the direction the series took, but I think some of your takes are at least slightly unreasonable. Looking foward to that Greed Island vid, tho. Love your shit, bruh. Stay lit.

*SUMMONING JUSTU ACTIVATES* You rang? Firstly let me say ME WANT GREED ISLAND DISCUSSION! secondly that's perfectly understandable that you've lost interest, knowing your taste I don't blame you at all, and there's no objectively correct way to read or enjoy the series. That Being Said I think the main difference between the side who eats everything this series puts out on principle and everyone else that ToGODshi obstiensively dragged along his madlad ride with his masterclass writing comes down to that most famous quote from the story- you should enjoy the little details to the fullest because that's where you'll find the things more important than what you want. For example it's just as you said I could explain the myriad of reasons why Nanika doesn't break the power system, and that's without even getting into theories about the nature of nen we might not even be aware of that I find plausible, but nothing I say is gonna make it feel less like an asspull. That's because the feeling that something is an asspull comes from a combination of feeling an expectation was not meet & that established logic was not followed, and these feelings feed into one another. If what you were looking for was a traditional story of slowly working up to the goal of the main character then you'll be disappointed as that was abandoned. I cared enough about the new themes that had taken ToGODshi's interest at that point which he decided to focus on that it didn't matter to me. In fact I found the exploration of politics, Buddhist ethics, gender, obsession and family dynamics much more interesting. But again that's just me, and it's a niche thing. And I feel like as ToGODshi continues to do whatever the fuck he wants while still making gangbusters this is going to be a growing trend of him alienating the nonhardcore. Not to make it sound like I'm perfectly fine with everyone else getting stiffed cause I've got mine but there was a panel where a character listed off a bunch of topics at random that he was disappoint some girls weren't into and I feel that was a pretty meta statement in a way and I was like "I SPECIFICALLY am interested in ALL those things stop spying on me" XD. Anyhow long story short Hunter x Hunter isn't about the plot hence the loose title when compared to other shounen that usually has the MC's name or a very specific occupation/power/non-general plot in it. It's often sold as an epic adventure, and it is in many ways, but in reality it's more of an urban fantasy about whatever the authors interested in at the time, hence why each arc is so distinct. I feel after yu yu hakusho ended with him in such bad health he decided "you know what next time I'm JUST gonna write like any arc could be the last one & enjoy myself". It just so happens that he's an EXTREMELY good writer so whatever he wants is good and all flows together because he's used to always thinking in terms of manga! I guess what I'm saying is my reading of the series is one where obsessing over ever single detail with enthusiasm is in itself the point and that the actual story is in a way incidental. Not sure how satisfying "it's about the journey man~" and "death of the author is bs" are but hey I did MY best even if it wasn't THE BEST. I just know I got quickly attracted to the new characters, the new drama, the new themes, and if I had to put it down to something in particular it'd be that I've become attacted to how he writes rather than what he writes about, tho again I'm not DISINTERESTED in the topics like you are so there is that. Hope you have a swell day and hopefully you'll chat more about hxh soon!

Greed Island finale was sending him to Kite over Ging because of Gon bringing Killua but from there, the Chimera Ant arc is effectively its own thing as the search for his dad is placed on the backburner. Is this not a problem you had with the narrative? The point is that Gon's goal was the foundation to build the world of Hunter upon. This latest manga arc is reaping the rewards of that part having been developed. It didn't need to be tied down to the starting narrative and it's better off not being restricted in that way. There is a lotttt culminating into this arc and it's ambitious to leave KIllua and Gon behind but the series does not rely on them as much as others would, if you ask me. Kurapika is just as much a main character as the other 2. And yeah, sure, the Alluka thing is annoying but I think you had a couple inaccuracies there. Not to mention it was a good way to lead into the calamities of the next arc. Mostly fine criticisms but I don't think I see them as being as significant as you might. And yes, I'm a dickrider lol

Just something I wanted to add was that gon's first meeting with ging being anticlimactic was done because togashi wanted to emphasize the point of "its the journey that matters" as ging says(roughly), so the friends gon made along with the things he learned are more valuable than the end goal of meeting ging.

Random Person it is a shonen I admit that, but togashi’s arc structure is completely different than other shonen manga. In the yorknew city arc he completely set the main characters aside and focused on the phantom troupe and kurapika. The chimera ant arc is a fantastic arc expressing the humanization of meruem as he played with komugi and the dehumanization of gon as he turned into a monster to kill pitou. The way he shifts the tone drastically from arc to arc is unlike most shonen and now (manga spoilers) he’s put aside his shonen main characters of gon and killua and is focusing on a political war on the way to the dark continent using all of the side characters in the story and no shonen has ever done that. The only thing i’m trying to argue is that Hunter x Hunter is a shonen anime/manga but i don’t personally categorize it together with dragonball, naruto, mha, bleach or one piece.
@carlosamores9105 жыл бұрын
Random Person name a shonen that would be able to continue releasing chapters after completely setting the 2 main characters aside and please name me a shonen that has its own “no other shonen has done it” moment as unique as getting rid of the main characters. I just feel like from gon’s perspective in the story it’s more of a shonen but the story is no longer being told through the eyes of gon. Togashi is done telling gon’s story and now he has the world of hunter which he has created and is doing something brand new and it’s great. naruto did boruto but that’s not exciting. dragonball super :/. bleach is just over along with ichigo and one piece is still going for eternity. Who knows if gon and killua will come back in the story i hope they do.

Random Person okay obviously Jojo is an extremely influential anime/manga but I haven’t watched it so I didn’t think of it when writing my comment. So what if naruto, Luffy, Ichigo or Goku lost their powers and got put to the side as they continued the story with other characters in the world. They would never do that because their shonen main character is the selling point. Hunter x Hunter is a redefining shonen that is extremely influential to the shonen we have today. I simply can’t put it with the other shonen I’ve watched but that’s just my opinion. It has a completely different feel than all the other shonen I’ve watched. ^btw sorry for not watching jojo’s I hope I don’t get attacked

Been waiting for a HxH video tbh, but it was not at all what I expected, lol. The circumstances that helped Gon meet his father was because all the things he accomplished and worked for since chapter one until his fight with Pitou. Regarding nen and fights you gotta appreciate the complexity of the flights within the nen system that are only possible because characters when pass the basic system of ten/Ren/ko/etc they practice at greed island. Now Togashi does a lot of set up here and there with very late pay offs, for example the greed island one you mentioned with the card system, so I would like to wait a bit regarding Nanika's one to speculate but there's already a connection with her and the dark continent, since it's already revealed that Nanika comes from there (where's it's called Ai) The walls of text do actually serve a narrative purpose and have been building up the tension greatly, I would urge you to catch up to the manga is worth it, the new more abstract concepts of nen present here, and Kurapika's ark and all the multiple plot lines inside the boat that will eventually clash is so god damn good. Great video btw, as always very enjoyable! And greed island video would be amazing! Of: sorry for crappie editing and grammar posting from my phone.

Gon still can't use nen ever again, the initial consequence is still there. His body being fucked up was due to overusing it. I do have an issue with Alluka's existence, but not as much with this in consideration. I'm also pretty sure, and correct me if I'm wrong, that Alluka was stated to be from the Dark Continent, and her power may not be nen? Which kinda ties back into that narrative plot point. Besides, the Killua and Alluka stuff was pretty wholesome and emotional, despite my issues with Alluka conceptually.

The manga seems to be hinting more and more that... (possible spoilers ahead) ... since some Zoldycks survived Calamities in the Dark Continent, they have some of those Calamities' power, either through nen contracts (like the princes have to their beasts) or early exposure to them indirectly in their training as assassins. Most obvious example being the relationship between Nanika and "Ai"... but I also suspect there could be more (eg: Maha and "Pap", possibly even Killua and "Hellbell" given his ability to go into killer mode, immunize poison, and his attack style against that lady chimera ant with the medical mask)

Yorknew City's my favorite arc. Kurapika's my favorite character (one of my favorite male characters in all of anime). I was disappointed that we didn't get to see him much for like... 70 episodes or something, so the idea of his story actually being continued sounds awesome to me as someone who just wrapped up the anime and hasn't gotten to the manga yet.

I would absolutely love a Greed Island video on the near future. My favorite arc is the Yorknew arc and I really like how it connects perfectly with the Heaven's arena and Greed Island arcs with such a good flow. I also like the Chimera arc but I think it loses steam on the halfway point (later it starts kicking ass again) and it's pretty irregular. I agree with you that the current arc is kinda uninteresting. I'm only sticking because Kurapika is favorite character but there's too much exposition and Togashi is constantly introducing more and more new characters that I don't care at all. Hope it pays off.

For the anime, the Greed Island arc is my 2nd favorite behind Chimera Ant arc. Surprising that you like enjoyed it so much. Also, I love Alluka and the relationship between her and Killua strengthens the reason as to why I think Killua's use of her is fair imo.

That's the coolest part about Alluka is she is somewhat a vehicle to the bigger story. DC tease.
@Javetts5 жыл бұрын
you're right on the alluka part, but I disagree on the "asspull" bookmark. He was going around trying to put together a 100% winning strategy against hisoka. While doing so, he gained an ability that requires both hands to be free. For this reason he decided to make a new hatsu with what he describes as "a new host of bothersome rules" in order to use that two hand hatsu. If that ability's requirements weren't directly counter to his own, he never would of made the bookmark. I'd also like you to look at the current arc from afar. Kurapika is trapped with someone with all the remaining kurta eyes, the spider is on board and absolutely killable and he is protecting a baby. I really feel that this arc will be the battle for Kurapika's soul. And I can absolutely see Kurapika dying in this arc, I'm very engaged.

You told us to post walls of text, and so I will. I compleatly disagree on you in regards to aluka/nanika. There is absolutely a price to pay but nanika's just pushing of the cost. In nanika's wish granting system someone has to pay the price for the benefit the previous person received but it's shown than nanika has pretence for killua. Earlier in the chapter, despite the fact that killua was supposed to get harsh requests he gets off easy but aluka later asks a pretty high demand of the zoldic body guard lady compared to the wish killua had just asked, this was to show that nanika pushed off the punishment killua was supposed to receive to someone else. Nanika is doing the same thing with gon, there is still a price that needs to be paid, nanika is just pushing off who pays it. Eventually it'll need to be paid. Honestly I just don't think you align with one of the core appeals of the show. Personally I love this show for its detached clinical look at everything. The reason gon meets his dad like that is because it makes sense for that to happen given the circumstances. It's not about what the characters deserve, that's irrelevant, that's always been irrelevant. The greatness of hunter x hunter (to me at least) is that it treats its characters as cogs in the machine that is the world just like anything else. That's part of the reason greed island is my least favorite arc, because it played like a typical shonen, when this story has so much more to offer than a typical shonen does.
@CreationsFlare5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it was slipped in that she can essentially delay and pass off the punishment onto the next person provided she isn't holding one already. Which she wasn't when she used her ability on Gon. I still kinda feel like that condition is a little cheap for a gift-giver, but all it really means is the next person who asks a wish from Alluka is going to get nuked. Which shouldn't happen because Killua freed Alluka from captivity so....yeah. It's not like I don't get why he'd be pissed, but it is a reason.
@ratska965 жыл бұрын
@@CreationsFlare I'll also agree that feeling that it may be a cheap narrative tool is a reasonable reaction. However he also seemed to be claiming that it did not obey the previously established rules of nen and how tight the mechanics had been till that point and I was just attempting to show that it is consistent and in line with the nature of nen till this point

I liked the chimera ant arch because of the almost lovecraftian sense of dread that I felt. It was the only time where I was genuinely questioning how a shounen main character could ever possibly come out on top, because he really couldn't, and the results of that is what makes me agree thinking that nanika made Gon's decision feel cheapened. Edit* spelling
@Dell-ol6hb5 жыл бұрын
Rex Umbra sure but it was really the only way Gon could’ve been healed, and Alkuka’s introduction fleshes out the world more and serves as a good connection to the Dark Continent.

I really like the current arc :) But i can see where people are coming from when they say that they've lost interest. The latest arc has many new characters that i really like (MA BOI BILL, Terrorsandwich and theta) In fact there are so many characters i like in this arc, that i dont find it boring/tireing at all. As for gon and killua: Thanks to gon, killua finally found a purpose in his life. I guess you can kinda already theorize how killua will tie into the Dark continent, if at all. How gon will come back in to the story i dont know, but im sure once he figures out his next step in life we can get a better picture of his narrative potential. Im sure our boys will all reunite eventually. HxH fans need the fattest amount of patience they can get. This is like the longest comment ive ever written xD

There's no flaw in the system, Alluka doesn't use Nen. Alluka was a dark world thing possessing a host (implied near the end of the world tree chapter). So despite it being a deus machina, it technically doesn't damage the set nen rules...
@ARandomGuy245 жыл бұрын
It damages the the tension of the show. It hypes up the consequences of breaking the rules of nen use. You'll f*cking die, or you'll be crippled for life, you'll never recover. All this kind of stuff is telling us how bad it is. Next time they hype up they consequences of some technique it's like ehh, whatever Killua can fix this up lcikity split. Somebody gets their leg taken off and their career as a hunter is over and have no idea about what do with their life? Instead of dealing with drama and real stuff that people have to face when their purpose in life is taken away just get Killua to fix it up. It's hard to take any consequences seriously when the writer does that kinda stuff.
@tygamike5 жыл бұрын
I'd argue that the series shifting from Gon is fine. Gon and Killua have completed their arcs (Gon found Ging and we saw his huge potential everyone talks about), Killua found something worth living for outside of assassination and made friends (Gon and Alluka). The Dark Continent arc is likely going to conclude Kurapika's arc by having him finally finish collecting the Kurta eyes and likely fight the last of the Spiders as well as or alongside Hisoka. Leorio might have an arc too but honestly he never had much direction. From the very beginning the series hasn't been afraid to say that Gon isn't that big of a deal in the world he's in, and that just carries on in a meta way in that the story continues with everyone else even after Gon becomes irrelevant.
@moonshell315 жыл бұрын
I agree that Alluka is kinda bs, however it was the main factor of intrigue between the previous events and the dark continent arc, alluka supposedly being from the dark continent.
