As a certified service tech, This is a great way to fix it or completely break the print head. If, 'IF' you force too much pressure on the syringe you can blow out the internal seal on the head. Distilled Water and a cleaning swab (not a Q-Tip) is your first move. Please don't lay the head in the liquid, have it rest on top of a Jar and drip/spray into a glass jar. dab the head dry, replace the head, and let it dock. Do several Cleaning cycles or setup and load ink.

My GX4020 had the Cyan clogged. Bought the solution, bought a new maintenance cartridge, went through the whole process described, left the print head out of the printer for 24 hours. The Cyan now test prints beautifully, problem solved! BUT WAIT! Leaving it out apparently dried out all the other colors and now they won't print. Apparently I should NOT have left out the print head?? Is there a simple solution to this or am I stuck with having to clean all the other colors now? Yes, I have run the head cleaning several times.

What Ink Tank printers on the market have built-in intermittent self cleaning (like HP inkjets had)so that the printheads ink wouldn't dry and cause all these frustrations people experience with ink tank printers? If it ain't the ink that empties your wallet it's their printheads that do. Print heads for canons are $120. This is definitely negligence by the manufacturers allowing ink to dry and not having routine cleanings built-in to the printers.
