originally made by Antnee for Doom 64 EX which went a little unoticed at first, "BETA 64" makes it's return for the official Doom 64 Remaster by Styd051, prepare your Super Shotgun for 33 maps of terror, following the same level design style the original developers of Doom 64 had back then, the results are short maps full on detail and scripted events, lots of bug fixes, new secrets and improved combat balances await!
this could be beginning for more ports like this, maybe Community Chest 64? ;)

Good to see people who still care for Doom 64,too bad ive seen it being overshadowed by Doom 1/2 so often ,but in Reality Doom 64 is the superior version than both in terms of engine mechanics despite that it was released for Nintendo 64 that unfortunately had its limitations,either way Great Job

Saying that's better than doom 1/2 is a stretch, the maps are labyrinthtic af, even more than the og dooms, why can't you see your hand in the shotgun animation? Even the originals had that, the enemies looked weird, like, if you saw the d64 demons side to side with the og ones, you would think those were totally new demons, and lastly, why. Can't. You. Jump. IT'S THE FUCKING NINTENDO 64!!! most of the game's levels have some part where you have to "jump", and it's a million times better when you have the ability to jump. Seriously, doom 64 is better, I'm not saying it's worse, just not better

Doom 64 is very underrated, but it was my first Doom game I did complete as a child. I didn't know any secrets or anything but I find it really enjoyable and fun. I tried countless times in the past to get Kaiser's Outcast (Doomsday) Pwad to start to no avail. At least we have Doom 64 Remaster and Doom 64 CE and more

​@@Juancr2006the shotgun animations were probably cut because of cartridge storage or maybe they wanted to make it more similar to quake 1. Which also did not feature the reloading animation. Fans since made a double barrel lever action model for Quake 1 to try and explain why Ranger never reloaded the gun. I guess the same could be used in Doom 64

I thought doom 64 was awesome. Didn’t play the remaster until a couple of years ago. It feels like it should have been Doom 3.

Doom 64 is actually the creepiest of the dooms by far.. the sound effects and how dark the game was. Deff was better than Doom 1 or 2

@@Juancr2006 i never said D3.. i said D1 and D2. And yes it is better.. Doom1 and D2 suffers from being rushed with poor map design and lack of textures for things. Doom 3 wasnt as scary as this because of its graphics. There is nothing like a good sprite early 3d game that makes it creepy. Doom3 suffers from playdough,clay like looking graphics and textures from the time. Which were amazing when it came out i remember building a pc for it.. but the gppd graphics dont make it better Doom3 was really good on the linear horror. But the ending.. is what really sucked.. that last boss fight.. was trash

I'll give you that, doom64 is pretty scary and captures the horror action that Doom aimed for while keeping it fun and campy corny. But I have to respectfully disagree. I do think Doom 1 and 2 are significantly better in what they aim to do which is to be a high octane action horror. Doom 64 takes the latter and leans more towards it which I absolutely love, but the other two are easier to pick up. Plus 9/10 times you're most likely to reach for 1 or 2

Had no idea this WAD got remastered! I remember playing the original version of this via Doom 64 CE. Will this remastered version also run on CE?

It won't run on CE, although during the port's development the new intermission screens CE added made it in, too, so they're pretty much very similar now, the main goal was getting the old EX release to run in the official D64 Remaster, as that old EX is simply outdated and unstable in modern windows OS. With this big one out, we can expect more old hidden gems in those early days of Doom 64 EX being playable in the Remaster sooner or later, depends on the interest of the Doom 64 discord, they all busy making new projects instead :)

Someone like you might be able to help explain how to build d64 maps? You should do a tutorial video showing off how to build basic doom 64 maps for people who are new to it like me. A new video covering the topic I speak of would be great!

The enemies were made using 3d models. They took pictures of the models from 8 angles and used said pictures to make new sprites.

@@valentetellezperez6538 I know that, I was thinking more about the world rendering view. It's like I can take a ruler and every single wall is 100% parallel to the screen edge. Is that just a side effect of having a vertically locked camera?

Maybe, it probably has something to do with FOV stuff; I think the game wasn't designed to work in such a widescreen resolution and maybe that's why the image kinda warps. This would probably be unnoticeable in an old box tv or a similar shaped screen

Beta 64 is not the beta of Doom 64, rather it is a custom campaign for Doom 64 originally made by Antnee and now it has been ported to the official Doom 64 releases.

the name "BETA" here stands for the Greek Alphabet symbols, there was about to be a sequel called "DELTA 64" for example, but plans changed and Antnee, the original creator, is busy being a dad since 2022.
