The overheating engine problem is still not solved. Peter gives an update as to where he is with it all as he explains the various parts of the engine. He hopes he is a step closer to a resolution but only time will tell.

My goodness...all those parts! It is amazing how each one is designed for a specific purpose, yet all the parts come together and work as one. I do hope that everything gets sorted out before the official cruising season gets underway. Crazy weather here....it was 72 degrees this past Monday and today it is 32 degrees with snow flurries! Oh my! It was good seeing Peter...he looks very well. Thank you for sharing, Maryanne, and God bless you and Peter.

Marianne you did a good job of cleaning up my poor video, that low sun was shining right into the engine room and dazzling me as well as causing flares on the pictures. I carried on because I knew there wasn't time to do it again the following day - and I knew you could go to work and make it better 😁

Hi, removing the extra radiator made things much better, that seemed to create extra pressure in the cooling system - probably because it was too high relative to the engine. Other boaters have successfully fitted a similar radiator but mounted it lower down, one I know has a traditional engine room with space to put the radiator alongside the engine but that's not possible on my boat. Since the radiator was removed the engine still gets hot when cruising on a river or on a stretch of canal with no locks even when keeping the revs down to 1050 - 1100 rpm. On two occasions when setting off after a break the engine has rapidly overheated - in about 5 minutes - and the temperature alarm has gone off. Once there was also a loss of some coolant and I called out RCR to look at it. The engineer said Beta engines can get airlocks in the cooling system and that causes the rapid overheating. Then you need to let the engine cool down then bleed any air out of the skin tank and top up the coolant and you are ready to go. I assume the airlocks are caused by the engine getting too warm on the previous run but I may be wrong. Beta Marine are very good at talking to customers on the phone and giving advice and on their website they maintain a list of certified engineers who are trained on Beta Marine engines so you can look up your nearest engineer. Up to now I have had to bleed the skin tank every time I do a day's cruising, and there is always some air in there. I have a bleed valve with a lever on it but it still means lifting an engine deck board to reach it. Next week I will have a new skin tank fitted which hopefully won't get air in it but even so the engineer will fit an automatic bleed valve which will detect any air and let it out. And that's all I know about Beta engines and skin tanks! Good luck, Peter
