Yep, I downed it! Thankfully it stopped right on the money. I tipped it over to let the excess run out and then it fire up without issue. This is why a properly oiled filter is so critical.

If just enough water gets into the air filter, it can send moisture and droplets into the carb, and it will not run until that water stops. It kills combustion. If it happens again, remove the air filter and squeeze it out. Make sure to carry a couple pairs of nitrile gloves (oily mess). I've submerged (under water) the air box while running a couple times now, and it doesn't take more than a couple seconds for it to die. I spent an hour each time removing the plug, filter, and flipping the bike upside down to spin the wheel in 4th gear to pump water out of the crankcase, and drain the exhaust. Resulted in having to replace the silencer packing both times afterwards. Huge PITA. After the first drowning I installed the optional kicker ($400), for peace of mind. I now always choose to go well around unknown depth of water. If I cannot see the bottom and haven't seen someone ride through on an unfamiliar trail, that's a no go for me. It's not impossible to drown a bike in only 18 inches of water, just lay it down on it's side, I've done it. A lowered bike and a short inseam is my Achilles when crossing water, especially with unseen rocks below.

Sounds like you're a bike drowning pro : ) It didn't get past the filter on this occasion. All the water came running out of the box nicely and then fired up fine. This was a good month ago now and the bikes been out a good 6 times since and run perfectly. Except for the wheel bearing that is.

@@dynamotightstar3472 Yeah, I'm trying to never get any more practice drowning it. All the bearings that touch water need attention eventually. You'll have to service the linkage bearings too. They will also corrode over time. I'm replacing mine every couple years so far. Pack em with grease when they're new, there's never enough grease in new bearings.

Yep, linkage bearings need doing too sadly but they're the next job 😩

Wow, that was not hugely deep either... bit of a worry.... I have lowered my 390 2" so will have to be careful. Am glad the snorkel on my Tuareg is up by the dash

Your 390 is probably the same height as mine now given that mine has a 10% smaller frame. In the middle the water was 2/3rds of the way up the air box cover. Lucky escape. Yeah, the ADV bikes are far better equipped for water crossings that's for sure! 😃
