The Switch lacks a lot of the charm the 3DS has and introduces issues the 3DS already solved. Like the Switch can only scroll through the games in one big line and you can't make folders. We lost things like Streetpass, Face Raiders, and AR Cards. I really miss the activity log. I don't get why they just had the switch say over blank hours when the 3DS told you exactly how much you played every game and even let you see them ranked by how many times you played or how much you played. We also lost playcoins. The 3DS has themes, but the switch only has light and dark mode. Absolutely ridiculous and simple problems. I don't understand Nintendo sometimes man. Why couldn't they have small games like Face Raiders that show off the HD Rumble or something?

You didn’t mention the best hidden feature of the 3DS, every 2/3DS console has a built-in GBA player, full on backwards compatibility with GBA that went unused outside of the ambassador program giveaways, those aren’t so much Virtual Consoles like the others, the GBA emulator was built-in onto the console itself and via hacking not only can you inject any GBA Rom to run as a VC title but you can even get the emulator to start from a powered off system and pick whichever game you wanna play that is located on the micro SD, in theory had the 3DS had a GBA slot it would have been fuuly compatible with the GBA similar to the DS.

I wouldn't say it was so much of a feature of the 3DS as it was a feature of the DS that was still in the 3DS as a likely initially unintended result of borrowed hardware to get DS games to run on the system. To be fair the ambassador games did have special text on the bottom screen denoting the hardware limitations while playing GBA games in that mode, but these games were not available at launch which is likely why it wasn't covered in the video.

The 3DS was the first console I did any serious gaming on. I had a Gamecube when I was little but I was too stupid to get past the first locked door in Luigi's mansion, so I don't really count that, whereas I got sucked into Ocarina of Time 3D and really grew to appreciate games as more than cool toys for the first time. I loved the 3DS so much as a kid, the 3D was always the coolest thing to me and I loved playing around with it and showing people how it worked. I adored all the extra capabilities the 3DS had. I used to print my own AR cards and I remember discovering the fact that bigger AR cards made bigger AR characters when I accidentally printed a card in A4 size. Then, not knowing how to print something bigger than that, I tried in vain to draw my own giant AR card. I had so much fun with the camera, with the voice recorder, all of these things are cherished memories for me and it's really cool seeing how hard won a lot of these features were. I'll always be grateful to the 3DS team for putting so much effort into that little console. All of those extra and, perhaps to some, "superfluous" features meant so much to me as a kid and even more so looking back on them now. What a special console. P.S. I upgraded from my old metallic blue 3DS to a New 3DS XL when i got into Monster Hunter, and moving my save data from one to the other almost felt like a betrayal. I kept the old one as a relic of sorts for ages before lending it to my girlfriend, who wasn't much of a gamer outside of playing Mario on her DS when she was a kid, and with it she also fell deeper in love with videogames. She also took to Ocarina like a fish to water and recently we've been able to enjoy a lot of games together, all thanks to my old 3DS acting as a stepping stone for her. Really, such a special little console (and Ocarina such a special game xD)

I have a question, sorry if you don't know but what's the difference between a New 3DS XL and a 3DS XL, besides certain games?
@GenerallyBananas3 жыл бұрын
@@jennfreeman1962 I'll start by saying that the XL versions of the 3DS are identical to their small versions in performance. Old 3DS is the same as 3DS XL and the new 3DS is the same as the new 3DS XL, all that changes is their size. I personally love the tiny original 3DS for nostalgia reasons but they are absolutely uncomfortable and the L and R buttons always break, so I would definitely get an XL As for what is different about the New 3DS, it is slightly more powerful than the older models, which is great if you want to homebrew it and do some emulating. They also added SNES games to the eshop which you can't buy on Old 3DS (but you can emulate those on old 3DS if you homebrew it). They added a little nub on the right side of the console that acts like a second analog stick (like the circle pad pro on old 3DS models) which is super useful for Monster Hunter but not many other games use it. They added 2 more buttons at the back next to L and R, but most importantly if you care about the 3D feature, they added tracking to the front camera of the new 3DS so that the 3D can calibrate itself based on where your head is. On the Old 3DS you have to hold it in an exact position in front of your face or the 3D effect doesn't work, whereas on the new 3DS you can hold it whetever you want and the 3D will adjust to you, making it so so so much nicer to use. Small thing of note, because the new 3DS has it's own second analog stick, the Circle Pad Pro will not work with it, it only works with Old 3DS Sorry for the super long answer, but I hope this covers more or less everything. You can also find comparisons between old and new 3ds on youtube. I personally would recommend a new 3DS XL because of the 3D tracking and bigger screen, but all the 3DSs are great consoles I think. Ah, also to keep in mind, the 2DS is identical to an old 3DS in power but without the 3D, and the 2DS XL is identical to the new 3DS in power but without the 3D

Right around August, Nintendo offered two neat options. One for existing owners, the Ambassador program (consisting of 10 free NES games and 10 free GBA games all built in). The other option was just getting a price cut for potential new owners. Walmart accidentally combined both the price cut and the ambassador program. When I heard about that, I immediately went out to my nearest Walmart and bought a 3DS with both benefits! One of my most memorable purchases from Nintendo. Stuff literally comes out of the screen really far. I've shown all my friends his vids and they're like so the 3ds could do outward 3d not just boring inward 3d. It's crazy not many games had any images coming out of the screen. There's a few in the puzzle swap if you complete a puzzle you get to view it in 3d and some of the characters do have spots that kinda clip out towards you it's pretty cool but nothing tops that dude on KZbin w the sword and other random stuff🙏💯👍it's really amazing to see

I know it's stupid but I appreciate you using so much music from the 3ds ost. Especially the pop music from the slideshow feature in Nintendo 3ds camera. It’s bittersweet to see the 3DS have a BETA64 video. I love the 3DS and have so many fond memories with it and seeing start down the path of a dead console is sad to see. 14:19 if u pay attention to the beta 3ds hinge, u will notice that the screen doesn't connect to the body through a hinge but rather a rotation mechanism. Its hard to explain but if you have seen many Japanese rotating flip phone, you will notice this. Which mean the beta 3ds could rotate and play with just one screen, which also lead to the possibility of having touch sensitivity on the top screen, cus what else could we interact with the 3ds if its only have touch featured on the bottom screen

wonderful video! i think it’s safe to say that Hideki Konno is a genius. streetpass is honestly one of my favorite ideas to ever come out of nintendo. it’s essentially a social media platform, but, with the assistance of the playcoin feature, encourages you to go outside to progress in the software. the playcoin feature wasn’t the most original idea (take the pokewalker for example), but streetpass itself was so original and fresh in the way that it was built into the console itself. it quite literally made the 3DS feel alive. i remember taking a trip to washington d.c. as a kid, being so incredibly excited to streetpass as many people as a could. i remember my jaw dropping after i ran into someone with the most puzzle pieces i’ve ever seen in puzzle swap. it’s just so insane to me that a built-in feature in a handheld video game console could make me so interactive with the world around me. and it’s so cool how it’s such a safe anonymous way to interact with people as well. not too much information about them, but not too little to be disinterested! if streetpass was on the switch, i would 100% bring it wherever i’d go.

The 3DS amazes me even to this day. What amazes me even more is the unused content for games that came with the system *and* various tech demos only meant to be seen behind closed doors and E3. For example, a tech demo simply called "3D Challenge" was found on a development version of a 3DS and contains several tests for 3D meant for seeing if someone can distinguish the differences between a 2D object/texture and a 3D object. Some test are actually similar to some of the puzzles seen in the 3DS Professor Layton games when you need to find the differences between several routes and choose the correct one. There's a few videos about 3D Challenge with one setup to where if you have a NEW Nintendo 3DS you can view it on the updated, built-in Internet Browser and view the recovered tech demo in 3D via an option to view two side-to-side images merged together while watching the video itself. The "Thinking" and "Examining" music from the lost tech demo also sounds really similar to "Break The Targets" from Super Smash Bros. Melee.
