I put the Happymodel 0802 16,000kv motors in mine when the stock motors died and I noticed a huge increase in efficiency. Close to 4 minute flights and rarely dropping below 3.3v a cell.

Those are actually pretty good batteries.I think the sag below 3v is partially coming from the connectors. It might be worth using a jst or an xt30 and a proper 2s.
@MrShutterBug6 жыл бұрын
Fraser Steen yeah, I still plan to try that. Unfortunately an equivalent 2S battery would be at least 2g heavier.
@frasersteen6 жыл бұрын
Mr ShutterBug my logic is that all my lipos drop off a cliff at about 3.4-3.45 so I reckon those connectors could be dropping as much as 0.8v (for a 2s) if you are dropping to 2.9 before it dies. thats 10% more voltage, which is actually underestimating the benefit because of the gains from reduced sag. Might be worth it. I've got one on the way, I'll give it a shot.

I'd be interested in seeing what improvements you might get from mounting the batteries out of the thrust of the ducts. It doesn't look so bad on the 75x, but I would imagine you're getting a fair amount of resistance/turbulence to the thrust with them flat like that.

I'm loving mine, just need to decide on some batteries for it.....will need to modify the frame to fit a real 2s which I didn't really want to hack this up just yet...
@MrShutterBug6 жыл бұрын
I'll be trying a real 2s battery just to see, but it's not ideal. The 300 mAh 35-70C 2S Nanotech battery is about 2g heavier than two of the BetaFPV 300mAh 30-60C 1S batteries. That's a meaningful difference for a build this size. If you add bigger batteries and connectors, you add weight and loose efficiency, which makes you need even bigger batteries. It's a downward spiral. I think i would rather go the other direction and see how much I can lighten it up. If it could run OK on the TW 205 mAh batteries, it would be amazing! The real issue, of course is the KV of the motors (too high). But this is what we have for now. I'm still going to try xt30 mind you. I want to know how much of the voltage sag is from the connector alone.
@FlyingFun.6 жыл бұрын
@@MrShutterBug yep, I think staying light is going to be important especially if we want to keep it nimble in the corners.... Those hobbyking 180mah 2s are tempting but only 25c and I've not had the best of luck with nano tech in the past....plus that would mean cutting battery bay again.. I might get some of the crazypony 230mah cells and see how they fly, any experience with those? I don't have the long thin whoop batts because I've been flying boldclash b03 silverised which take square ones(300mah which I tried on this 65x but wasn't impressed at all ) so don't have much of an idea which ones are good or not...
@FlyingFun.6 жыл бұрын
@@MrShutterBug the harness and using 2 s lipos was something I suggested to betafpv but on the strong advice that the quad needed to be efficient and not draw too much current , used it on my bamboo builds with great success but they fly for 8 to 10 minutes on 350mah .... Obviously the kv they've chosen is a bit too high to be efficient and is drawing a lot of current but it still seems ok and those connectors aren't getting hot at all on my flights but I'm maybe not so hard a flyer as you ...yet! Still, this is working regardless and it is a LOT of fun, plenty of power there despite the connectors...and I mean PLENTY !!
@MrShutterBug6 жыл бұрын
The Crazypony 230's are not great. The ones I got were actually 210's. They are cheap and light, but don't deliver the kind of power the 65X needs. I expect the BetaFPV 230's are the same. I thought about the hobbyking 180mah 2S, but it's only 1g lighter than a pair of 300mah 1S batteries. I'm sure it would work, but it would be very short lived. For now, the 300mah 1S batteries by BetaFPV are the best option I know of.
@MrShutterBug6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the PH2 connectors hold up better than I expected. People have been having pretty good results using the PH2 option on the 75X as well. The connector will definitely increase the voltage sag under heavy load, but it's definitely a viable option for people.
@aeQuator6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your review. I can't wait to get one of those bad boys. could you test it with a signle xt30 and 2s pack, would be intresting to see, if voltage will keep droping so far down. I can imagine that those ph2.0 connectors are not big enough for those motors.
@MrShutterBug6 жыл бұрын
aeQuator I will be trying TX30 for sure. The PH2 connectors are way over taxed. I’m surprised they don’t melt! They probably would if the batteries could deliver the current that the motors are asking for.
@aeQuator6 жыл бұрын
I hope it will help. Otherwise BetaFPV should use different motors. Even with this much Power, Voltage sag could damage the Lipos if im not mistaken.
@MrShutterBug6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the motor KV is the real problem. I think it would be just as fast at 15,000KV, and much nicer on the batteries. It might even be faster, if the voltage is higher! Adding larger batteries and larger connectors isn't a great solution because these 65mm builds need to be as light as possible.
@aeQuator6 жыл бұрын
Yeah adding more waight is not good, but imo theres enough power to add 2 grams for the connector. The batteries will not get so much havier than 2 single once. Or cancel all and go smaller motors 0703. It could be nicer on the power. Maybe the'll listen to us and do some about the motors.
@MrShutterBug6 жыл бұрын
Some people have had success running 703 motors on 2S, but it's hit or miss. Just as many people melt the windings! According to BetaFPV, the 802 motor is the smallest one that is reliable on 2S voltage.
@ddfwaj6 жыл бұрын
Great review, why would BETAFPV not just use an XT30 on the 65X to begin with?
@MrShutterBug6 жыл бұрын
Well... a lot of people like the 2x1S setup on both the 65X and the 75X. The only real problem with xt30 on the 65X will be added weight. The 300mah 2S battery is about 2g heavier than two 300mah 1S batteries. And every gram matters for a 65mm whoop. It's not like it couldn't lift the weight. It's just that the unique flight characteristics of a build like this depend on it being as light as possible. My first change will probably be to reduce weight by switching out the camera/vtx/mount. But I do want to test xt30 on the 65X, just so I can see how it changes things.

Mr ShutterBug Motor Beeper ? Will that work on any Betafpv Do I set that up in Beta flight I am a beginner 😅
@MrShutterBug6 жыл бұрын
Any brushless quad that uses DSHOT can make the motors beep. It's like the chime that happens when you first plug in, except you can map it to a switch. Its not very loud, but I like it because it is still useful and adds zero weight. I think it's called "motor beacon" or "esc beacon" on the configuration tab. It should already be enabled on the 65X. Then you just set up a switch for the beeper on the modes tab.

Super excited about these....i've just put my order in from betafpv for the 75x and can't wait to get it. I'm quite curious about the voltage being displayed on your OSD - I don't usually run mine down below 3.5-3.6v/cell but your OSD is showing as low as 2.95v on these videos...surely that can't be possible?
@MrShutterBug6 жыл бұрын
The voltage sag is real. My OSD shows average cell voltage (not total voltage). Your batteries aren't going to like it. But it sure is fun!
@CharlyDuesentrieb6 жыл бұрын
I have a Beta 75 Pro and experience a lot of heat building up within the battery connector during flight. So the voltage display is not really valid, as it doesn't measure voltage directly at the battery but at the FC behind the overloaded connector. And with the Beta 65 X there are even two of this overloaded connectors in series, so voltage drop is even more. Decision was right for using a XT30 connector on Beta 75 X. Too bad that there is no XT15 or similar connector size available for even more reduced weight.
@MrShutterBug6 жыл бұрын
Voltage sag was terrible on the 75 Pro too. I did a whole review on that. Your point about the voltage is legit. The OSD doesn't really show you how you're affecting the health of the battery, but it does show you the voltage that the ESCs have to work with, and that directly affects the performance. It will be interesting to find out just how much of that sag comes from the over taxed PH2 connectors. Interestingly, the connectors and batteries get less hot than on my 1S builds. When switching to XT30, the problem isn't actually the weight of the connector, it's the weight of the batteries themselves. The 300mah BetaFPV 2S battery is one of the lightest, and it's still about 2g heavier than two 300mah 1S batteries. :-/

Hi Nate, i was build a micro brushless whoop 65mm (based on uruav UR65) with caddx V2. The goal is to have a whoop which can record HD video and flying very smooth to get the best footage and fly safe near people. The problem is ... built in dc stepup on crazybee FC suddenly broken at the 1st time i'm using it with caddx V2 (i guess it can't handle the working current) so i decide to use matek dc stepup and it work very well. Another problem is ... the 1s lihv battery seems not powerfull enough, yes it can fly but it's getting hot and the performance decreased very fast. Now i want to replace all of it with 2s brushless whoop, i plan to use 0802 motors and keep with 65mm frame wheelbase so it can safely fly near people. How do you think about 0802 motor with 31mm props. is the sound quite enough to fly near people? I don't need to go faster and i don't need acro mode for this micro HD project

@MrShutterBug6 жыл бұрын
It would hardly be a whoop at that point. For me, the question is where can you fly it. If you have to go out to a big open field in order to fly it safely, then there's not much point. If you want to rip out in the open, then there are lots of good quads that can do that already. The ability fly anywhere is what makes whoops great!
@VicknairDoesThings6 жыл бұрын
Mr ShutterBug, oh wow, that was a completely off the comment, but I see you have thought the whoop design out through and through! I actually fly micro brushless carbon fiber quads mostly, so of course my mind goes straight to 3s 😋

Try turning your VTX down from 200mw to 25mw, there is no reason you should need that much x-mit power in such close proximity & your stealing the limited power available from the motors and flight time. To my point, maybe the over-powered VTX is why you see little difference in flight time whether cruising or flying hard acro.
@MrShutterBug6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, 200mW is overkill, but I don't think it's actually that significant compared to the power used by the motors. I get similar results when flying with the vtx set to 25mW.
