4:56 Russian localization can give us more info about betas of Portal 2, in some of them there was “a place” where Chell with PotatOS should hurry, probably a danger was getting closer to them.

this idea that was scrapped was a good thing to scrap. it just doesn't make sense at all for a murderer to become affectionate in the slightest. she did flood the entire facility with neurotoxin so why would she be able to actually be nice at all? she only did release you at the end of portal 2 because she gave up on killing you. she thought that you are so stubborn you'd find a way to survive anything she would throw at you so was like eff it! get out of here so i can test!

The unfortunate thing about Don't Say Goodbye and the Turret Opera being written by Ellen McLain is that in a Reddit AMA, Ellen was asked what theories she believed and she said Chell being GLaDOS' daughter, meaning those songs were probably with a parental meaning. But otherwise all of the lines are specifically for being romantic when written by the actual writers. Another thing to add is in an interview before Portal 2's release, the interviewer asked questions about the game to someone at Valve and one question was wondering if GLaDOS was coming back as a jealous ex girlfriend and the person being interviewed confirmed it. So I don't know why people still deny this stuff lol

Dude if you just look a bit more closely at the "evidence" even a blind person could see that its all taken out of context and, or are just lose threads that don't lead to anywhere, and you seriously think a person who was tortured to go through endless test chambers just to be killed and a cold hearted machine that got killed by there own test subject would EVER have a romantic relationship is just Laughable.

I still find it so hilarious that people have tried everything they can to reason that there isn't something going on between Chell & GLaDOS when the game is flashing giant neon signs at some form of romance between the two. I appreciate you covering the beta content in regards to them, because I didn't want to bring up cut content as evidence.

Why would it be hilarious to say that it's not plausible and you're overthinking it? even if there really were some "giant neon signs" to prove it in the release: how does a relationship with a sociopatic ai involved in the deaths of a whole facility and a silent trapped protagonist with no character whatsoever work? what about the implications of chell being forced by glados to tests with deadly traps because she likes it so much, it sounds like a pretty abusive relationship. Now, as for those "clear signs": i might agree with you for the beta, there seems to be some form of relationship the writers tried to make, but where are the clear signs in the release? i personally just dont see them, it seems like an unnecessary detail to me.

Honestly I don't see any relationship hints at all. All these "evidences" are either Glados talking to chell as if she's a child and or her trying to make chell feel bad and being emotionally manipulative in all kinds of sadistic ways. For example sp_shoot_through_wall sound way more like a grown up talking to a child and all the other example seem way more like Glados just being Glados and is trying to make chell feel bad and trying out different ways to emotionally manipulate/hurt her. Let's not forget that Glados is a sadistic cold hearted AI that got murdered by her own test subject and has all the power to torture and get revenge at the person who murdered her. What would you do if you got murdered but one day you get revived by the same person and you have the power to make sure that they are tortured for all eternity? Would you get revenge towards the person who murdered you or would you seriously try to have a serious loving relationship with them? If it's the second one then you seriously need some help. Overall this video sounds more like someone trying to make connections to things where there clearly are none

It's called a beta, that means that there was an idea but it got scrapped in the production. The plot of a failing relationship between a test subject and a living machine was just another idea that didn't seem to work out in the end.

@@goo4281 Ok i took a break from all of this for a moment and yeah maybe I was a bit over reacting, maybe they did think about it, since Chel is a blank slate that the players needed to project them selfs at it's not out of the realm of possibility, that's also probably why Mel was cut because even though she was also a blank slate she was a new blank slate, the one that didn't have anything written on is so people who bata tested it where obviously disappointed that Glados didn't recognize them, so maybe they brought back Chel and tried to build a relationship between Glados and the player without wiping the bord clean, an idea that did stick around till the end of development, but they did realize that Glados and Chel were both Female and even back in 2011 the world was a very different place, far less accepting of other people's opinions, so they needed to build relationship between players and Glados without making a new character and so they made portal 2 more gender neutral and made the relationship between Glados and the player less romantic and more of a friendship. Yeah i guess i can see from where his coming from, but i think it would have been far better if he just made two separate videos instead of combining two ideas that don't fit cleanly together and aren't given the time and respect they deserve, it just came of wrong and left a bad taste in my mouth it just didn't feel genuine, and im sure he didn't want it to come off that way, im sure he did he's research, he should have devoted more time to one of the topics.

The first “evidence” you claim to suggest is GLaDOS literally being passive aggressive to Chell, as always. It’s not a marital dispute, it’s just GLaDOS being, well, GLaDOS 2. That scene in the elevator would make sense… except for the fact that in one of the Betas, GLaDOS had amnesia, therefore didn’t remember the events of Portal 1, therefore was probably asking why the protagonist was so untrusting of her, and if it wasn’t from that Beta… well then I guess you’d be right… if GLaDOS wasn’t, yknow, GLaDOS 3. A thing you can shoot through walls? Oh jeez, it’s not like I have a gun that could bridge two points in space by shooting at walls! Also the whole experiment thing? Yeah, I’m pretty sure that’s GLaDOS saying “I’m gonna kill you in the most excruciating way possible” 4. … So GLaDOS has a sense of humor. What, do you think her roasting Chell about the whole marriage thing is supposed to mean that she’s in love with her, even though GLaDOS has shown time and time again that she is sarcastic, lies a lot and constantly likes to berate Chell on basically everything? I mean, do I have to mention the fat jokes? 5. Hmm, seems like a decisive proof… I wonder if the first game had something like that “I KNOW you’re there, I can FEEL you, you know” This is probably from a scrapped escape scene, and GLaDOS was probably messing around with Chell. But anyways, here it is, the most decisive proof I have is this: 6. This information came from the Beta and many cut contents of Portal 2, therefore it is not canon for the storyline of Portal 2, and while they’re quite interesting to think and ruminate about, we must not forget that they are not canon anymore, as they have been cut from the main product Though I do get where you’re coming from, seriously, hope the whole start of the comment thing doesn’t give the wrong idea

All I’m trying to say is that most of the evidence you presented in the video is circumstantial, and mostly from a beta and cut content, which means it’s non-canon to the game’s plot-line. You said "Glados had amnesia and didn't recognize Chell in the beta" and that statement is enough to make me want to throw a refrigerator through a window. Portal 2 had four major eras of development, and of those four major eras of development, about *half* of *one* had glados with amnesia and Chell together in the enrichment center, and that was the second half of the Core Hub era, around mid 2009. Every single line in this video was from late Multi-Core era, early 2010, at EARLIEST, and mid pre-retail era, late 2010 to mid 2011, at the best time frame estimate. Now you've come here to the beta video and you make a statement in the comment section trying to disprove my research with unresearched geusstimates based off a loose notion of what the game was like during its development. What you've just done is the equivalent of going to a astronomy talk, listening to an astronomer relay information about a new study, and then stood up at the end of it and said "Actually Galileo found that the sun is the center of the universe." You come to a cut content video made by a cut content guy and you tell him he's wrong by presenting cut content you don't understand, you're getting a pretty annoyed cut content guy.

Or maybe GLaDOS just forgot she was Chell's mother ever since she wasn't Caroline anymore. Although she sometimes feels like a mother to her, especially when she gets Caroline's conscience again, taking over half her own and causing her to be nice to Chell and inspired by Cave Johnson. Part of a theory I made long before this video. But hey, that's just a theory- a game theory!!
