id like to imagine that the "cut" cores are still out there in the facility, but since glad0s woke up, and rearranged the facility, they're all locked away for eternity, or killed in some way when wheatly becomes the head honcho of the facility (why wouldn't you kill your brethren, you're the superior core after all)

You see how many corrupted votes were outside Wheatleys lair? It's entirely possible he corrupted them and that's why stuff has been going so terrible. If the cores were really tasked with keeping the facility running, as Wheatley suggests in the intro, then corrupting everyone in charge would lead to some pretty bad things going on in the facility

Honestly I can imagine the interactions between the two being adorable. I really do wish they kept some of these cores but the ones we have now are just as good, if not better! (And it’s not like they were 100% scrapped, like this video says, the cores were eventually put into the four we know today. Well..except the “jumping” core though it probably doesn’t even exist)

as soon as I heard the fish commerical, i knew what happened to the aquarium core by the games final release. Space!

I feel like the inclusion of Pendleton would have made Wheatley's death contain that amount of darkness and edge the first game had. We disintegrate turrets all day and incinerated cores in the past, why couldn't Wheatley have died? Pendelton could have been the core that took Glados' place and then Wheatley could have shown up along with Glados to help kick Pendelton out. I think a better series of events got left on the cutting room floor.

This was a really good video One criticism I have is that the blurred background footage was kind of nauseating when there was nothing in front of it for extended periods of time but other than that, keep it up!!

Well thank you, that's some useful feedback! With this episode, I wanted to make things less boring by incorporating actual footage in the background instead of still images like I've done for all my previous betafieds. I tried to make sure that it wasn't *just* that by having as many visuals on screen as I could, but there were some lull points where I couldn't think of anything to put up. I'll see to it in future episodes that that's less of a problem.

Theres a 5th core in portal 2 that seems alive. When you see the 3 cores for the first time in the game if you look up you would see a core with a really bright eye like a lamp

personally, i think that the aquarium core has been changed into the space core cuz it says tings like "aquarium", "wanna go to the aquarium" similarly to tthe space core that has almost the same lines but the aquarium has been replaced with space + they're eye color is similar (sorry for bas english, i am polish )

Oh so THATS what thise textures were. Idk if this is a coincidence or not nut the multi-core era core textures somewhat match the original Portal 1 cores, with the only different obe being the neon lime-green color, which is the closest to the curiosity core

I had no idea Pendleton and Wheatley coexisted at one stage! I wonder if Wheatley was characterised differently back then, seeing as the description we're given of Pendleton is basically Wheatley in all but name. And if not... strange to have two very similar cores when one would be enough. What if Pendleton was a SMARTER Wheatley? Well, now I have far too many questions and no answers.

Great video! I'm especially intrigued by Pendleton, as I'm a huge Wheatley fan, and I'd love to see his voice lines in the game files as you mentioned at 16:58. May I ask where I can find the mentioned vscript file? I know they're likely not audio files, but it sounds like it communicates some of the classic plot that Pendleton was a part of, and I'd love to take a look! :)

Of course! The script file is called "sphere_sabotage_1.nut" and you can find it in scripts/vscripts/choreo or scripts/vscripts/choreo/demo (it's copied over)

@@wolfcl0ck Found it! Thank you so much! Very interesting, especially since there's a bit of code in this file as well! Kinda looks like the dialogue is stored in an array (good for CPU cache efficiency), and some functions are included in the file. In particular, we can see part of Pendleton's code for playing the files, under "function Think()" at the end of the file. Given that we can see this function (and the function that actually plays the dialogue), I'd surmise this gives us a suggestion as to how Pendleton might have paced the dialogue in either the Core Hub or Multi-core stage!
