So Guys Please all have a read of this if you are new to the hobby of FPV like i am!!!! I have recently bought my first quad BNF and they sent it out, all out of line FLIPPING out when i tried to take off!!!... I have watched SO many of Joshua Bardwells videos and i genuinely do learn something every time i watch!!! and again here he is to save the day!!! thank you joshua! This video helps me a lot for my new Nanohawk X. When I setup with my Flysky receiver, ESC alignment and the motor positions was incorrect. My setup has been completed based on your tutorial and my tiny drone works smoothly. Thank you Joshua, I watched almost all of your videos.

JB you have helped me with so many issues your the mad if it wasn't for you i would never be able to take off with my quads. I just made a new quad and needed to turn the 4 in 1 ESC and went for a hover test and of course it flips out. thank god your here to help and have a video for all possible issues us pilots can come across. thanks for all you do for us!!!

Just a little add on for people doing this in 2024 remember to reset your Z axis in the setup tab. You could have the right board alignment settings and still show the wrong configuration until you reset. :)

Thank you Mr. JB - got a new Tyro099, FC is mounted correctly, but Gyros were still 180 degrees out. This video saved the quad.

Thanks so much !! Building my first quad was epic. At every step I faced problems and at the first flight, the drone just flipped out (luckily not in my face :-) ). Now the issue is fixed easily thanks to you and I shoud be able to have my first flight right now. Luckily there are people like you so involved to help all of us entering in this new (and very addictive) hobby. Thx again from Belgium :)

Dude you are saving my mind. I don't know why, but suddenly my FC was reversed and my engines were in the wrong order... It took me two sets of propellers to figure out why it was spinning on takeoff.... Thanks a lot!

Good topic for a video Josh. I've been building for a little over a year now, and remember learning this the hard way back when I was getting started in the hobby. Now my very first step when connecting a new board to betaflight is to check my alignment by pitching and rolling the board in the setup page..

Saved my day(s)!! Spend a lot of time on a 'runaway' issue on my Emax Tinyhawk Freestyle. Even soldered and unsoldered all the wires because someone told me they would be 'bad solder'. Cause "drone works at idle but after spin up, the drone can't get enough voltage and therefor it would 'reset'". Well,, that was 'bs' apparently, but at least I had a good experience in taking apart the whole quad and resoldering it. So with the OSD i found the 'runaway' issue. Not sure why I didn't see that one before, probably because I had another issue " a blinking **** " (4 stars). Still don't know what those mean(??). Now, with your help, I've fixed the issue and the quad works! Great! Thank you! Why this issue occured, don't know. All worked fine. Installed XM+, worked fine. Then installed Nano V2, worked fine. Then installed Eachine VTX03, and suddenly I had this motor issue. Strange. But hey, luckily we have JB ! :D

I wish I saw this video sooner because I had already cut my motor wires and soldered them to my AIO ESC! This knowledge will help me rotate the board for my next build. Thanks Joshua!👍🏽🤙🏽😃

I had this problem too... My buddy stretched his motor wires across the 4in1, I repinned the signal wires, next time we'll do it in the CLI for sure! Thank you JB!

Great video, Joshua. I made the Xilo Phreakstyle JB edition my first build last year, and I'm learning a lot. Couldn't do it without all your helpful videos! I recently lost my Xilo Stax ESC to a short, and replaced it with a Mamba F50, and found myself having to make lots of adjustments. This was the one that stumped me, but I knew I'd seen you mention motor re-ordering somewhere. :)

THANKS SO MUCH . I DID THE BOARD AND ESC 180 DEGREE ON THE ROTOR RIOT DJI BUILD . I HAD TROUBLE WITH THE INFINITY 30 STACK AND DID NOT GET ANY SATISFACTION FROM NEWBEEDRONE ( AND I REALLY LIKE THERE TINY WHOOP STUFF ) . SO I SWITCHED TO A DALRC STACK AND KINDA FELL IN LOVE WITH IT . THE ENGINE AND F405 . EYE TROUBLE I USE CAPS . PS YOU MADE THAT SO EASY . THANK YOU .

Saved my ass again. Had to use several of your videos to correct my "reset" on a Betafpv Meteor65 ELRS. Had to set the VTX tab, the receiver tab, PID tab....blah blah blah. At first I was mad, but JB would certainly have a video or videos. Then I laughed and got to work....thanks again for this vidoes. ALL of these manufacturers should pay you some kinda skrill for this.

Planning on utilizing a aio Darwin board of a 2.5" BQE Rip Squeak v2 build I'm working on. And the USB port is located on the bottom of the board. So I will need to rotate it 90° to access it. This might be a dated tutorial, yet the info still holds strong. Bout to learn something new! Awesome

Thank you so much for all you do! Accidentally put board in 180* off. I changed it in board alignment but didn't realize I had to remap. I'm using individual esc's. They are all spinning correct but it's correcting the opposite motor I take it. Ps. You should make that the 5 things that could cause flipping at take-off. I'd already be flying. Lol Happy flying YOUR AWESOME!!!!

Awesome video as always Joshua! I just wish you also showed how to change the motor rotation direction in the same video it would have been neat to see how to set all the motors in right order and with their corresponding rotation directions... but I guess you already talked about it somewhere in your other videos.

Just wanted to suggest that new pilots be careful not to take you literally then you say "oh" instead "zero" (like bee-oh-oh instead of bee-zero-zero)... The majority of us will know what you meant. Thanks again for making these wonderful videos.

Great explanation and demo, these video examples help tremendously. I had to reassign resources last month when I soldered my motors 2 & 4 to signal pads 5 & 6! It took me a day to realize my error and I confirmed it on the pin out diagram for the FC (a practice you mentioned). I must admit that ummagawd has a similar video and he was kind enough to respond to my inquiry. Your idea to spool up the motors is fantastic since you can keep your quadcopter assembled. Thank you.

yo this was soooo helpful i had to reverse the flight controller on my drone so it would work right but I didn't like it so i decided to watch a vid on how to fix it and found this i am getting into fpv and do engineering in my highschool we will also be building drones there i will be helping people and trying to learn how to program, tune and build drones better i will for sure watch more of your videos.

just an FYI that the newer betaflight versions support changing the motor position via GUI. Makes changing board orientation even easier than before.

Do you like that green arrow in BF GUI? (@4:13 ish) If not what color should it be? I made it green because it stood out. Also of you have any input as to the configuration model should look like let me know I am i. The process of updating them and the code.

Hi Josh. What if you did not mark down the current pin assignments, you cleared a motor and you forget what the pin number was? I like what you did in this video.... Marking the slider number and what pin is at each slider and then putting the pin number next to the motor you want to spin, if i said that right. Thanks

Go to CLI and type diff all Copy paste the results. Type defaults This erases your config. Type resource This shows the default resource assignments. Copy down the ones you need. Paste back in your config diff to restore your config.

Does it matter is the props inwards or outwards if the props on correctly and the correct motor spins correctly via each slider

Spot on timing JB just finished kakute f4v2 with tekko 32 and had this issue. Suggested folllow up video blheli 32 setup guide/ reversing motor direction 🤤

@ Joshua Bardwell So i have a HGLRC XJB 145 which "FLIPS OUT". This began after a small crash onto grass. I visually inspected everything and could not see any issue. Since the crash i have changed to a new 4in1 esc and it also have a new set of motors and guess what is still FLIPS OUT. Its running i believe the F440 so the orientation is correct as it has pinned connections between the fc and the esc. Stack. Im kinda at a loss at the moment and cannot figure this thing out. Hope you can lend a helping hand which you always seem to do, Cheers!

On my DALRC FC405/ENGINE stack the board/esc assembly is mounted 90 degrees counter-clockwise (i.e. pointing to the left), but the ESC pin wiring, for convenience, is 90 degrees clockwise from where it would normally be, necessitating a change to the resource motor pin address assignment in BetaFlight, but I DO NOT change the board orientation in Betaflight - all angles left at zero/default - flys perfectly.

JB, I have a new Mini Magnum lll FC for Hawk Pro, and installed it the same way as the Original mini magnum lll but now all 4 motors need Remapping why isn’t in the proper order from the Manufacture?🙏

On ESC board with connector (Holybro TekkoS 4-in-1 ESC in my case) it was dead easy. Noted the real motor order on paper and then swapped pins in connector. Job done. Joshua, do you have a tutorial about throttle/acceleration issues? With Emax RS2306/2400KV motors and Emax Avan 5065 3-blade props on punch with high throttle in straight line have that fluttering(?) sound. Doesn't look usual. Do Avan-s definitely flutter? Or this is D-term issue? Motors are warm, but not hot.

Avan S are stiff props designed specifically for top speed runs. I seriously doubt they are fluttering. So if you are hearing fluttering noise it's probably the D gain. But not having heard it, I can't really say for sure.

Thanks! Can it may be caused by ESC's who are limiting power output because they can't support amps required by 2306 motors? Particular FC (with 4-in-1 ESC) is RacerStart Tattoo F4S (should support 30/35A per motor).

In end I noticed one loose propeller. In end put some serious elbow grease in filter configuration. Had to enable both notch filters. Still can't got away from two little gyro noise bumps at 280 hz and 400 Hz. Seems 2nd motor who recently took serious beating, probably slowly become bad. Although in end got traces in log pretty smooth and motors only little warm. Probably I should stay on that until motor 2 will finally die :) And sorry - that quad have Tekko BLHeli_S 4-in-1 ESC, not F4S.
