Beth Hart has some of the best mic technique in the business. There are no other mics around her, her voice is just that powerful. And she knows it, and she knows when to use it. As an audio engineer for live sound, I use this video to show younger singers what good mic technique is.

Great reaction. I've been a fan of Joe's for years and whoever came up with the idea to put these two together deserves a knighthood :-) I've seen many reactions to this version, and you are one of the few to pick up and comment on Joe's guitar solo answering and responding to Beth's vocals and complimenting each other perfectly. Check out their version of "I'll take care of you" for an equally memorable performance. Keep up the great reactions :-)

As you 'lean back' into a guitar solo, with pressure on the body and neck of the guitar, especially in the high registers, it can slightly distort the neck and body to make the note go sharp and piercing for a moment adding to the emotion of the piece. with players of Joe's calliber, this is usually the case.

Jennifer (slightly out of breath) ... running to catch up here. Never had heard this singer before to be honest. Interesting. Not really my style of music either though certainly moreso than heavy metal. Though that guitar solo ... there were a few moments that had me feeling Pink Floyd vibes! 😯 And Beth was certainly pouring out her heart. Her singing is just so ... brutally honest and emotional. Did you notice how sweaty her hair was at the end? Oh and it was video recorded in Amsterdam! Lovely city! Ha! That darned ad! A. "The audacity!" 2. When she pulls the mic away she doing the old school volume adjustment rather than relying on the sound guy or effects to modulate. Sure there are other mics around too but not near by. Beth and Joe deserve all the praise given on this and other threads. They each and both should be more familiar to the broad public. But my comment is how masterfully the band supported them. The horns were beautiful in tone and balance in the quiet passages in low register - not easy! Bass and drums tighter than a comparison that would bar this comment. Throughout the band picked up on dynamic shifts, variance between straight and swing timing and legato and staccato phrasings. Exceptional players!

Great to experience your take on a blues number; you don't see much of that where it's actually analyzed. I've a whole playlist filled with Joe's numbers. Beth does a seriously good job on this, so out of curiousity I went and played Etta James version of this recorded in 1975 just to compare. Beth stays true to Etta's version for a couple of minutes before taking off into her own really intense interpretation. Of course this version is a lot longer than Etta's. Strange in a way that this is recorded in Amerstedam, because my favorite version of this is sung by Clarence Bekker and Titi Tsira, both of whom sing with Playing For Change. Clarence moved from Surinam to the Nederlands when he was 6, and got his start playing in the bands there. You ever get a chance check out PFC's version live in Australia.

For some reason Jen, I get the feeling that the blues is not something you listen to very often. This performance seemed to throw you for a loop over and over and over again. There was nothing in this song that was truly unusual from a blues performance point of view. It was what we have come to expect from Joe and Beth. First class, A+++ blues singing and guitar playing. By the way, that was excellent blues guitar from Joe here, but you interrupted it several times (perhaps by accident because you did seem surprised that your hand's result was a pause in the playback) and if there is ONE thing that will annoy your blues or rock audience it is an interrupted guitar solo! I wanted to rap your knuckles with a ruler but I can't reach from Canada to England with mine! Lucky for you! Anyway, you need to listen to more blues and rock then it won't seem so alien to you. Or listen to it more often. I recommend Joe Bonamassa "Live at the Royal Albert Hall" from 2009. Lots of beautiful and passionate blues-rock that will get you in the swing of things. Joe and his band have been voted the very best blues band in the world for the last decade by fans. Hope you can accustom yourself to the blues and give us some expert analysis but no more interruptions of the guitar solos!! That was a witty rebuttal to the ad interjecting itself into the middle of the performance though! Ha, ha! Ad blockers are free and essential for this line of work, however. 😯😡😮👌🎸👌🎸
