He is still a great guy. I don't understand why some folks hate him. The games that are directed by Todd are awesome. They have the adventure feel. And making a big game is no small feat. A lot of sacrifices happened.
@eclipsegst9419 Жыл бұрын
Well, some of us that love the older games, hate that some of the new features of the new games, came at the expense of features we loved. Example, Morrowind's menus vs Skyrims. Morrowind, you left click, and everything is in front of you, you can click on whatever you want immediately. Amazing for PCs, bad for console. Skyrims UI is designed to be navigated by joysticks, and its very unintuitive on PC. Morrowind didn't have quest markers. You had to actually glean information from the world to get there. Like asking an NPC, or reading a signpost. It felt more immersive because that's how real life would work. No GPS in Tamriel. And then the dialogue systems. Morrowind's is definitely outdated in its lack of voiceovers or animation, but the basic way it works i think is superior. You ask the person the things you want to know, and that's it. No sitting there and repeatedly listening to something you don't care about, and then picking from 4 answers, repeat, until they actually talk about the thing you wanted to talk about. So yea, If you love those things like some of us do, you miss them. You want that kind of game but with modern graphics and animations, and you find the more linear and simplified games not as immersive or fun.

@@eclipsegst9419Sounds more like a bunch of nostalgia Nitpicking.
@Wieberleden810 Жыл бұрын
@@brandenlucero Yup, some people really get hypnotized by nostalgia. When someones says, for example, that Super Mario 64 is an objectively better game than any other Nntendo game ever, you better believe they're nostalgia tripping. Same with Morrowind. It also has to do with comparison. "Comparison is the thief of joy" is what they say, and it couldn't be more true when it comes to games. They always hope that newer games will be similar to their predecessors, which will just set them up for disappointment by not treating the current Elder Scrolls as its own entity.
@eclipsegst9419 Жыл бұрын
@user-lk7cv8vg7r Yea to be fair i mostly dislike what he did to Fallout. He changed the tone, and basically ended world progression so that more titles could be made essentially. Who needs those in an RPG right?
@soulgamer789 жыл бұрын
CrniWuk An RPGs is a role playing game. Therefore every game is an RPG. Does Madden have a good story/NPC? Does Zelda have a good story/NPC? How does the game he create not have a good setting, I mean, he doesn't create good character and story, but he creates some of the most immersive settings. That isn't even an opinion.
@CrniWuk9 жыл бұрын
soulgamer78 Niice definition! A car has wheels! So everything with wheels must be a car as well! right! Bethesda created their own genre, called Hiking simulators. I would eventually call games like Skyrim, Oblivion and Fallout 3 adventure games at best. They make RPGs for people that don't like RPGs. People with no attention span really. Seriously I don't see how Bethesda cares about making RPGs any longer when even their PR guru Pete Hines himself thinks that his own studio's dialogue is so shit he just wants to skip it. It's wonderful to know that this is a position he holds. It's wonderful because of the honesty of it all. - that's sarcasm by the way. To get that kind of confirmation that Hines says: "yup, we can't stand our own dialogue so we just wanna skip it". "I don’t have to wait for this guy to stop talking’. And now I’m playing other stuff, where there’s dialogue and I’m thinking, ‘Oh, I wish I could just walk away’. A position that the whole studio holds. You want to see a proper RPG? Go play Fallout New Vegas. Bethesda making RPGs. RPGs my ass :/

I myself have never used a mace (I used some type of club once but that isn't the same) In my experience an Axe needs to be swung with more strict movements and precise swings, A sword can be used more freely. I think they should have gone with a skill system similar to morrowinds, However I think Short-Blade and longs blade should just be one skill. In my opinion the combat skills should be Light Armor, Heavy Armor, Medium Armor, Blade, Blunt, and Axe. He was actually dumbing down the series, see the interviews he gives or how some talk about him, he is the guy who likes to roam around killing stuff, he does not really care about complexity or depth in games, he only cares about making his character look/feel cool and badass. And he is a liar.

Lucas V it's sad to say, but I agree with you. and it's sad cause I remember playing morrowind and just being absorbed in that world and reading about oblivion just filled me with wonder with all the amazing things they were going to accomplish. Todd Howard was like my hero then. But when oblivion came out, all i saw were the things that weren't there that were promised and the things from morrowind that were silently snuffed out.

I'd call it devolution in terms of gameplay, evolution in terms of polish. Too bad they remove mechanics and features that make the early elder scrolls game so compelling.
@jessemccormick56237 жыл бұрын
Cenot4ph Let's hope they put some back in the next game. I would love for there to be spell creation, levitation spells, the blade and blunt skill as opposed to one and two handed skill, silver weapons besides from one specific questline, and the ability to smash open locks with weapons.
@lucasv57157 жыл бұрын
Cenot4ph They rather cut them out than improve these aspects, if it is someone to blame is Todd Howard himself, the standard player does not like complexity or depth in their games, makes their head hurt, the future are polished games but that has the depth of a free to play mobile game.

i remember when morrowind came out, it was not as popular and as anticipated title as skyrim for example was, but man, was it a mindblowing game. i was so addicted to it. and great thing is, im also playing it right now in 2017 thanx to mods. and it looks like only few years old game. but nostalgia kicks in the same. with oblivion, already there was cult following, and with skyrim things went out of control, in a good way of course. i also played the first 2 games before morrowind, but i played it casually and didnt care a lot about em in that time. but with release of morrowind, this series became something glorious in my life. i just wish they bring back complexity and tabletop rpg feeling of the morrowind, in the next game. dont get me wrong, i love all 3 titles equally, i could not pick one, but while many things became better with oblivion, and then again even more with skyrim, other things suffered, and got, dare i say "dumbed down". like complexity of gameplay, leveling system, and hardcoreness of the game itself. anyway, im sure when next game gets announcement, it will be the most anticipated title in the video game history (what half-life 3? :P ).

It blows my mind how people can dislike Todd. He's just an awesome nerd like us who loves games, and him and everyone at BGS are professionals, artists, and nerds, and are great at what they do. Everyone just sees the business end of things, but I'll bet most of that comes from Microsoft and Zenimax. Not from Todd and BGS. They have to deal with bad executive decisions just like us fans do, if not a whole lot more. Take your time with TES6, Todd. Skyrim, Fo4, and 76 are still great games.

The one thing I reall miss in the Elder scrolls games is the ability to MIX spells together. That is throw a fireball and you can add lighting or even frost damage to it also, now its only on weapons. Last time you could do that sort of thing was on Morrowind, i REALLY miss that feature.

+Adam Burgess I played Oblivion first, then Skyrim and only then Arena, Daggerfall and Morrowind, and my favourite game is Morrowind. The reason why I personally prefer Morrowind is because it has stronger RPG elements than Oblivion and Skyrim; and exploring Vvardenfell and its culture in Morrowind is more interesting than exploring Tamriel in Arena or Illiac Bay in Daggerfall.

I would love the next Elder Scrolls game to have interactivity on a much better level. For example, you walk into a bandit camp, and based on your karma, you can join or be killed by the bandits. This interactivity could extend to making the game a little less open, in order to have characters really show emotions. The one problem with Skyrim, for me, was the main quest didn't have a good amount of emotion and Alduin felt like a lost character.
@edit38914 жыл бұрын
So he mentions not adding more races because there isn't much difference between the races, but also the race choice has been dumbed down since Morrowind (specifically beast races couldn't wear full helms or feet wear because it wouldn't fit them), I don't get it, how do you not realize that the reason there isn't much difference is because that difference has been taken out? It's like Todd thinks if there isn't much of a difference between two races then they should almost be taken out instead of, you know, making a difference between those races. What if Khajiit players had trouble getting trust to go into towns? Sure there would be players that don't like that challenging dynamic, but there are plenty of other races to play and it would actually give a reason to player difference races besides cosmetics and maybe the racial ability. I swear by the time TES6 comes out you'll be promoted with one choice every level and it will just be "mage, warrior or rouge" and that will be the whole complexity of the system, because then "the choices will be more meaning full" Most weapons were pretty similar in Morrowind (differences being length and the damage it does depending on how you attack with it (chop, slash, stab)) so instead of expanding on this to differentiate these weapons they just take some out so the ones that are left seem differentiated in comparison.
@SpecialProjectY11 ай бұрын
Being a mage, warrior or a rogue doesn't have much of an impact in Skyrim, it's just how you fight. Was an archer and could be an archmage, just had to cast a few low level spells that I had no difficulty to cast anyway.
@edit389111 ай бұрын
@@SpecialProjectY Oh yeah, Todd is allergic to adding player commitment. He knows you'll switch to stealth archer eventually. Gosh I haven't logged into this account in years and happen to check it the day after this comment. Have a good one man.

"we don't really look at our last game and see what it needs. You know, players say this is great, but add more weapons, and races. But what I want to know is, what can I strip away? How can I funnel your experience to what I think is meaningful?" I look at the races and ask, what makes each one different? But In the end, we decided to simplify that as well"
