Hi! I am mexican, love your channel. There are 2 types of Llorona. The legend is about a woman who drowned her chidren and the realizes what se has done, so she cries at night calling them. That one is just a legend. The second one is a love song that a man from Oaxaca wrote to his woman right before he leaves to the war. He discribes the first time he saw her in her typical robe (huipil) and her "scarf" (rebozo). He describes the love he has for her. It si really sad because he never came back as he died in war. So, even though it is performed in a verty pretty technical way, I, as a mexican feel it a little bit shallow because I know se confused the legend with the song.

I recommend a live performance of the Spanish singer Diana Navarro "CUPLERIAS GALA DE LOS PREMIOS CERES" is a performance that impresses and moves the way she sings and gesticulates and those incredible melismas that she has and with such a personal voice. Wow. I think this is one of the most beautiful songs ever, and she really performed it with feeling. I was a bit iffy about the vocoder when it came in, (thinking 'Oh no, she's surely not going to turn it into an electronic dance number?') but she incorporated it really creatively.

This is the song where I 'discovered' Rosalía in the middle of the first lockdown. Living in the UK, I'd never heard of her before. I started looking her music up and was hooked from there onwards! She is fantastic! As a vocal coach I thoroughly recommend hearing her amazing live performance in Seville of the sing De Plata. It is a demonstration of vocal control and power. Do not confuse the urban legend “la llorona” with the Mexican folk song “la llorona” not the same thing. This folk song with no author is very old written in Mexico during the time of the Spanish conquest of Mexico most likely by a Spanish fryer in verses that later were added music and the lyrics been added many more verses, basically many songwriters had created their own versions no different than what we see with Rosalia.
