There's a reason this song has endured for decades, and why no one else but Joe Cocker can give it the beauty and gravitas it deserves. It's the same reason only Leonard Cohen can truly sing "Hallelujah."

Wow Beth, I have never seen another vocal coach cry to an artist in all the years of KZbin. It made me cry watching you, we know Joe can belt out all of the soulful sounds, but this song is so personal, we know he is just singing this to one person in his life, it comes from a place deep inside his heart. Thank you for a wonderful reaction.

Is what got him so many fans. And he wasn't the I don't talk to fans type. Joe would try to talk to everyone. Gentleman So so talented. So very much missed. Hard to believe it will be 7yrs this year since Joe left our world for the big stage in the sky. RIP Joe Cocker. 1941-2014.

When you find an artist that instantly removes you from your surroundings, that's the rabbit hole you want to jump down into. Joe cocker made a living from doing covers...... like nobody else could! Some must-listen suggestions: She Came In Thru The Bathroom Window, The Jealous Kind, Catfish (About the pitching great Catfish Hunter), A Song For You (My all time favorite of his), Look What you’ve Done, and Worrier. JC passed away in Dec of 2014 at 70 years of age from lung cancer….. RIP and TY for the music you left us. TY for reacting.

I saw Cocker live at a small venue in Baltimore almost 20 years ago. Live, his voice is like nothing I've ever heard. It's very difficult to describe but you could literally feel his voice in the air around you. Recordings completely fail at capturing the experience of hearing his voice live. You're right about his heart. He put 100% into every song. His encore was an a capella version of this song and it was just absolutely amazing.

Denny Wilson was a real musician. I hear his heart when I hear his song. If he had only got royalties from it, history could have been kinder to him. This adds even more emotion to a performance that is perfectly married with the original intention.

I've just recently started watching "reaction" videos, and always enjoy your technical breakdowns of each artist's performance. You nailed Joe Cocker's gift of performing with pure emotion. One of the hardest things for people to do is bare their emotion, their feelings, and their soul to others. (That's why they call it soul.) I went back and watched this a second time watching your face as Joe sang. At the end you said you didn't say much, but your expressions said plenty. Joe succeeded in instilling in you the feelings he was sharing in the song. I think you were spot on in that Joe's gift may not be technical skills (Although he has plenty.) but more in his ability to share that pure emotion that comes from the soul. One of your best reactions Beth. Peace. ✌

Interesting and enjoyable evaluation.. I’ve been in love with Joe Cocker’s version of the song since it came out, when I was a teen. I’ve listened to him sing this song often, and in various venues, but I had not heard the version you reacted to, but it truly was a special version, and I had tears well up, perhaps because of the song, perhaps because of how it moved you, or perhaps because I saw in your reaction a genuine appreciation for a song that I have loved for almost 50 years. Good job! If you have not seen the movie Carlito’s Way,, this song is played in two key scenes, and it’s perfection is made even more special with those scenes.
