Ol' Moxis is just a bit of a disappointment all round! 😆 Tying his unit and power progression to battles has had the unfortunate effect of only letting him fail forward for so long. He needs to unlock those nastier creatures! So I'm ultimately happy the dice fell the way they did. Hopefully a change in leadership allows the Undead to become a bigger threat. If nothing else it's a good excuse to strike out in wildly different directions!

Gangrenous Hex: "MOXIS HAS FALLEN! NOW I AM THE NEW LEADER OF THE DECEPTI--I mean, THE UNDEAD HORDES!" Now this is quite the twist! Darker and more powerful forces are at play here, and Moxis might have to rely upon the one thing he probably hasn't put much care in to carry him through the coming struggle: his own life. Or he might just counter undeath with even greater undeath. Could go either way at this point. I have to imagine that Moxis's spell of domination over the wolves is pulling out their favorite squeaky toy and saying "Okay, boys, cut it out!" The dueling rules are a nice little down and dirty set of rules. I can see these being used for duels between champions in the middle of battles, similar to issuing challenges in Warhammer. I'd probably think of a way to differentiate the two types of attacks and defense to make their use more tactical, but it's a good place to start. Honestly, though, your narrative flourishes really helped make what would've otherwise been a slog of rolling dice very riveting, from describing failed defensive rolls as increasing levels of fatigue and successful attacks coming from the undead minions on the sidelines. The narration is the best part of these battle reports and this video is a prime example of that.

"STARSCR-ahem, GANGRENOUS!" Yes, the rules are just about as simple as you could get, and that was the ultimate goal. The narration was always intended to carry it! Though it shouldn't be too difficult to deepen it if desired! Different weapons, spells or abilities to change the dice your using during the game for example. Drop a d8 down to a d6 but deal extra damage on a win, getting a reroll or sacrificing defence for offence perhaps.

Keeping it simple was also a great aid for me doing this solo! It meant that ultimately the dice decided the outcome which is something I desired in this case. As a vs game however, it would be woefully lacking as is!

This was bloody brilliant, the duel rules are simple yet when combined with the epic narrative it really comes to life. This episode is well worth the wait and I'm excited to see what could happen in the future, maybe these two will meet again only on a much larger battlefield next time.....?

@@AshandStoneNZ Ah yes! The mighty Oaths of this world are strong, even for an Orc! Then perhaps he might look to the Black Stone Goblins! They swore no such oath, and it might be a solid alliance to harry at Baridoc’s allies in Goldenfields! Moxis certainly has many choices indeed.

For a fairly simple and direct die roll duel that could have easily gotten repetitive you did a great job of keeping it interesting via the narration. Continuing the flow of narration by adapting it to the subsequent character's die roll really helped give the impression of the combatants reacting to each other's moves rather than just taking turns smacking each other. I'm wondering if there's some table top rpg experience being drawn from here (beyond these videos of course)? Either way, good stuff as always.
