Beautiful Rubras Red but myn always pale.... Inspired by your channel and took a pair of Rubras and they always hide hardly see them.... Need suggestion please

Lots of hiding spaces, some dither fish and/or a larger group of rubra might help. When kept in groups, they usually are not shy if enough hides are provided...at least that has been my experience.

Beautiful eyes on baby Betta, you must be very proud fish dad! I may have to consider getting some wild betta types this spring, i know a guy in Scotland who breeds a few different types he'll post to liverpool where I am. I will keep watching you to work out by spring which wild bettas I should get! Cheers Dan

Hope you are able to get some wild bettas. As a recommendation, mouth brooders are probably easier to start with than the wild-type bubble nesters because the young are much bigger and easier to feed upon their release. Bubble nest betta fry are TINY!

Good thing the fish room is well ventilated, eh? I've got to adjust that camera tripod or I'll be getting all sorts of comments every time it squeaks :)

Hey Dan will the male eat the fry after he spit them out or can I raise them along side him

Dan, could you recommend some other names of wild betta mouth brooders I should look out for if I can't get Rubra? Cheers for any advice.

Of course! Channoides, albimarginata, picta, pugnax, and edithae are all contenders. I'd suggest you comb over the information on wild bettas at the International Betta Congress and go from there. I don't agree with all the info I read at IBC (or anywhere else :)), especially when folks claim you have to have highly acidic water to be successful keeping and/or breeding wild bettas. That has not been my experience, but this is still a great resource to get you started. Here's a link: smp.ibcbettas.org/articles/index.html I'd also suggest checking out Inglorious Bettas's channel here on KZbin. She has some experience with wild bettas that she shares in some of her vids.

Hello Dan, i have had some fry of the betta rubra that i was able to grow. It looks like all of them are females. Can you tell me when the males are visible what age ? Thanks for your help.
@DansFish4 жыл бұрын
Hello Edi, Congrats on raising these neat fish! It is not so much a factor of age as it is of size. I'd say that around the 1" - 1.5" range the males start to become readily visible.
