Interesting how each time Kim protests against Jimmy's antics, it's never "this is immoral and a wrong thing to do", it's always "what if someone finds out".
@FredrikHenriksson82Күн бұрын
People tend to give their loved ones a bit of a leeway when it comes to doing immoral things, or the wrong things, and will defend their behavior. Because they know them well and their circumstances. But will still worry about the consequences. There's always a threshold of what each individual will tolerate though and even if you lose respect, or even start to dislike your loved one over their behavior, you are still likely to protect their secrets.

I know this will sound goofy but Kim talking about all the different kinds of places they can live to Jimmy always reminds me of the end of "Big Trouble in Little China" where Gracie Law (Also a lawyer) tells Jack Burton that maybe he can buy a bigger truck with a little apartment in the back for them to be together and he says sooner or later he rubs everyone the wrong way, and then the very last thing he says to her after the guy says "aren't you even gonna kiss her?" is "No". Kind of like he's aware of what changes he can make in his life and what changes he can't, and Jimmy doesn't have that knowledge about himself in Better call Saul at this point so he entertained the idea

Season 1 ep 10 was shot as if it was the series finale, as they didn't know at the time if it would be picked up to continue. We learn Mike was a cop in BB in the “no half measures” speech he gives to Walt. There might be earlier instances too but can’t think of it being explicitly stating at the moment. In his first scene as the cleanup guy after Jane, he references probabilities of who will respond, procedure, etc…but i don’t believe he says it there. Also in S5 he’s questioned by Hank & Gomez and they say you used to be a cop in Philly and you left abruptly under curious circumstances, etc. I think that was the tie-in/foundation for Mike’s background story in S1 of BCS and the dirty cops.

Jimmy was Slippin' Jimmy before he was a lawyer. He's always Slippin' Jimmy; the aberration is him being an upstanding lawyer, and he became a lawyer because Chuck saved him from prison. The "slip" you see in this second episode is because Jimmy gets a thrill from doing the wrong thing, he'll always do it. You can also see how he's a bad influence on Kim now too, what they did together was definitely illegal. You don't even have to be charged with something to be disbarred as a lawyer either, a sniff of questionable behaviour, of dancing at the edges of the law, is enough to prevent you from practising law. The idea of being an "officer of the court" means a lawyer has to behave in a certain way, which is why Kim says she can't know about the type of things he'll do, like manufacture evidence. It wasn't about knowingly helping a drug dealer (as everyone is entitled to a defense) it was about breaking the law as a lawyer.

Yeah, it's still illegal to fabricate evidence before you get into court. It's a criminal offense, obstruction of justice just as bad as destruction of evidence. If you're a lawyer, you could get disbarred in addition to facing criminal charges. Attorneys are considered officers of the court, and as such, they're expected to be honest with law enforcement. You said nothing official had even started yet, but that's not true. A police investigation is official. It's an early phase of the same process of which court is a later phase. What if police gathered more evidence and the DA decided to bring charges? Now the guy is going to court, and the the fabricated evidence is now part of the court case, whether the police bring it up or Jimmy doubles down on it, and woe be unto him if he does. The other option is to come clean. So what's he going to say? "Oh, no big deal judge and/or jury. I, an officer of the court, only constructed fake evidence to give to law enforcement." You're allowed to mount as vigorous a defense for your client as you can. But you are not allowed to fabricate evidence in furtherance of that defense.

One of the many things that Gilligan and co. did right was cast that dumb-ass Subaru pos as Jimmy's car. When you are stupid poor and can barely make rent and feed yorself, car maintenance is one of the very first things that gets tossed out of the window. There are shots where Jimmy shuts Ol' Betsy down and she chugga chuggas a few times before going to sleep. When you have a vehicle that chugga chuggas a few times before shutting down, you're either dead-ass poor or really bad at car maintenance. My first car was a 1976 Olds Omega. What a piece of crap! The [bleeping] trim fell off in 1982 because the glue stopped sticking. Meg. Ugly as sin. I distinctly remember one January morning desperately willing Meg to roll over and catch fire. Baby, I just filled your radiator with tap water. At that point, I brought a bucket with me everywhere I went. Having to go back inside and call my boss to let him know I'd be late cuz my car was dead and I had to take the bus. Meg never moved again until the St. Paul cops had her towed away. BCS understood the relationship poor people have with their cars: blind, unwarranted hope she'll start. And don't even get me started on Walt's Aztec!

two things: I think it's more about whether Jimmy can behave "ethically" and not "unethically" in his role as a lawyer more than it's about whether Jimmy's actions are "legal" or "illegal". Kim, is very much talking about ethics. Making a tape for the police is fabricating evidence and it is unethical for a lawyer to do, and thus violates their oath and is grounds for disbarment. It's less about the binary of "good" or "bad" but is it proper for a lawyer to use his knowledge to behave unethically. That would apply regardless of whether this guy is selling drugs. Had this guy been simply had his cards stolen and didn't want the cops to find his personal weed stash, or his gay porn stash, it would not be unlawful, but jimmy fabricating evidence would be unethical. Kim is like why do something unethical that risks your license and your good new job? Second, Jimmy is compelled to break the rules by taking a shortcut. Davis and Maine requires he follow the rules. The switch is him unable to control his urge to break the rules. Fabricating evidence is breaking rules. And if you watch, Jimmy has chances to follow the rules and routinely won't. Even little minor rules.
@markhamstra1083Күн бұрын
Fabricating evidence to prevent apprehension, prosecution or conviction for a criminal offense is much more than just an ethics violation or breach of the bar association’s standards of professional conduct. It is a criminal offense. In New Mexico, what Jimmy did is a third or fourth degree felony.
